  1. I don't think his off-the-field incident was all that bad, but if he played for Pitt I'd feel the same way. I had very high hopes and perhaps (if gambling were legal) a bit of wager for Geno Smith's Heisman campaign. But he was anchored down by a non-existent defense and two games were he just find 't show up. Pretty fun college football season all around. Would have liked it more if UGA had better clock management, and Oregon had a kicker who could kick straight.
  2. There is nothing wrong with this thread. I can't speak for my colleagues, but I like you just fine. --Mike
  3. Loved watching him this year. Had a feeling he could have a very special season after the 59-57 win over La. Tech, but I wasn't expecting him to upset Bama. He had a great season, and I think with an entire off-season to tweak the offense specifically to his abilities, he could be even better next year. A&M will be a pre-season Top 5 for sure. --Mike
  4. I would actually be fairly surprised if we ever hear it. Shields has been promising this thing since the mid-90's.
  5. That's an excellent venue. My Dad and I saw Richie Havens (sadly Albert Brooks was not the opening act) there a few years back. It's right out side of Athens where the University of Ohio is, which is a great little college town. May be driving down for that this year. --Mike
  6. Yeah, the tracklisting and notes on the source material, I believe are embedded in the download.
  7. Damn, it worked on my laptop but doesn't on my mobile. Let me see what I can find.
  8. That's a very good observation, Lou. While there is still plenty of new music, I really enjoy, I find myself constantly going back to the 65-73 sweet spot (and most of the new bands I love have typically seem to have roots in this era of music) and have been in a stage where I am more interested in reading and talking about The Who, Neil Young, The Stones etc. than the Allah-Las or Ty Segall. In those buzz band discussions, I was in college and at that period I wanted to hear everything people were talking about. I would load up on everything from Sufjan to Animal Collective to Kanye. And I
  9. This may require some pre-knowledge of Louis CK's brilliant FX show, Louie, it made me laugh as hard as anything I've seen on SNL. http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/lincoln/1422756/ I think the show has been very solid for the last several years. Seth Myers has been a great headwriter, Wiig, Armisen, Sudekis, Hader, and Abby Elliott are all excellent players. I have a feeling Jay Pharoah will be the next SNL superstar. --Mike
  10. I went through a heavy Lifehouse phase myself last year. I strongly recommend Ritchie Unterberger's book about the Lifehouse/Quadrophenia era Who: http://www.amazon.com/Fooled-Lifehouse-Quadrophenia-Genuine-Jawbone/dp/1906002355. Of all of the fanmade Lifehouse comps I've heard, this one is a favorite. Happy listening, --Mike edit: Link now works.
  11. Great depiction of the band at the end of their run, and their whole history (I'll sit through anything with Gary Young content). I have a bit of regional shame watching it since the awful Lollapalooza show were the fans throw sit at the band happened in my home state.
  12. I'll have to check that one out. I'm a big fan.
  13. I got turned on to that song (and Rodriguez) in a mix that GtrPlyr (I believe) made here a few years back. I really want to see this movie, it hasn't been anywhere near me yet, but as soon as I can get ahold of a copy I'll be there. --Mike

  15. Here's a great article from Jon Wurster, a man who has seen more rock documentaries than just about any other any human, about his favorite selections: http://www.avclub.com/articles/jon-wurster-wants-you-to-see-these-7-rock-document,65329/
  16. In addition to GtrPly's recommendations, I loved this one on Peter Green: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00k92x1. That covers their formation and early days.
  17. That one is really good. It's one of the BBC4 docs, I love their one on Progressive Rock also. I am going to have to check out the Tom Ze, Nico and X ones. Gimmie Shelter is one of my favorite documentaries ever. The scene where Jagger actually sees the footage of Meredith Hunter is so moving. Who is Harry Nilsson is probably the best newer one I've seen of late.
  18. I concur. The lineup that made YHF -- Jeff, Jay, Glenn, Leroy and John is a close second. Current lineup is a close third. --Mike
  19. I recommend reviewing this thread: http://viachicago.or...he-laptop-era/. Which eventually has great recommendations of boots from this era. This period is my personal favorite of the band's, I love the spaces in the songs, and the flourishes Leroy brings. I think I know what video boot you have though. Does the video look like it was just shot in the front row? Does it pretty much stay on Jeff the whole time? That was from Detroit in the summer 2003, where the sound was shit. That lineup did a lot better in auditoriums particularly before Mike joined. Their sound and the songs on YHF were a
