Right. I don't anything about what Jay's family would have or wouldn't have pursued, so I won't speculate.

Thanks to the comedic stylings of Scharpling and Wurster (from the Best Show on WFMU), I have probably laughed harder at the uh "legacy" of Mr. Allin than anything else of late: http://wfmu.org/listen.m3u?show=31271&archive=51865.

When Jay passed away, to the best of my knowledge it disappeared.

Oh, cool. I was unaware of it until I saw that article on the playlist this morning.

And another doc in the works too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SKvBARhTyk&feature=player_embedded#! http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/watch-the-rolling-stones-charlie-is-my-darling-documentary-trailer-dvd-arrives-november-6-20120927?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=facebook

Ha ha ha. I had Mike Love is THE biggest asshole in rock history written originally and then I remembered the Nuge and decided to hedge it.
-
Earlier last year I quoted the Royal Tenenbaums in reference to Mike Love, "Can’t someone be a shit their whole life and want to repair the damage?" Sadly, it doesn't seem like he really wants to repair the damage. And it's sad, because he's not going to be around for too much longer. He's not going to be remembered in a lot of circles as one half of the songwriting team Wilson/Love or the voice on all of those great records. He's going to be remembered as one of the single biggest assholes in rock history.

Who had September 26th in the "which day will Mike Love fuck everything up?" pool: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2208817/Youre-fired-Three-Beach-Boys-founding-members-dumped-bands-frontman-Mike-Love.html

A lot of the contemporary indie bands who were big in the 2000-2004 period haven't aged all that well for me. I still love Broken Social Scene, New Pornos and Ted Leo, but I haven't found myself compelled to pick up those Bright Eyes records in quite sometime. I think The Smiths would also qualify. It isn't really that I think their music isn't any good, it's just that band is so grounded in my awkward teenage phase that I don't find it very pleasant to revisit. --Mike -
We Jam Econo would be my number one, the DVD set has a couple of great full length concerts and extended interviews. Some great stuff from Nels didn't make the final cut.

I have the Electrifying Conclusion, and really like that one.

I am a GBV fan, but hadn't heard of this. I think I'm going a internet hunting when I get home from work.

How not to be a loser when meeting the band...

We're taking care of it. -
Yeah, both dates are great. Those are two BT era boots I revisit a lot. --Mike

As long as there is interest I will continue recommending gig from this era. I'll try to only do shows that Owl has and if I can remember something in my collection that I really like that isn't on Owl, I'll try to get to him. One of my favorite recent Wilco songs is I Might, which features a sample from the immortal Stooges track TV Eye. It's a song that's been on the Wilcos mind's for awhile as they covered it in a 2002 show in Amsterdam. http://wilcoarchive....o 20020526 SBD/ The sound is great, setlist is typical to that era, but the YHF tracks and She's a Jar and A Shot in the Arm are

A particular favorite of mine from this era is the 10/30/1997 Minneapolis gig: http://wilcoarchive.com/Wilco%2019971030/. Excellent sound, the band was on fire, and the setlist is tremendous. Covers of Sugar Baby and James Alley Blues, 15 songs from Being There, and polka and ska versions of Passenger Side. Go get it! --Mike

Could anyone get away with this kind of song today?

Randy has a new (brilliant) submission to this topic: -
I can dig it . I have grown to appericiate AM quite a bit over the years. It would be no lower than six on my list (SBS and WTA are the two I just never really got into all that much, but even then there are parts of SBS I really like. And I just don't listen to Wilco the Album, so that might have something to do with why I don't rank it all that highly.). --Mike

In your opinion, what Wilco albums is AM better than?
