  1. I'll take out live albums and covers albums because, frankly, the world is a safer place without them, already mentioned but for a run of albums you could pick a run of any five out of this lot and it would be justified and difficult to rival. -Hunky Dory -Ziggy Stardust -Aladdin Sane -Diamond Dogs -Young Americans -Station to Station -Low -"Heroes" -Lodger -Scary Monsters There's some reasoning behind topping and tailing that list with The Man Who Sold The World and Let's Dance. But it would be a brave move.
  2. You could always try www.fromthebasement.tv , admittedly it's not a TV program that appears on your normal TV, but on the internets. Not seen it myself but it's supposed to be familiar in presentation to TOGWT in that there's no audience and it's performance only. However, it goes a step further by removing the presenter, so no more whispering Bob and no prog-rock infatuated snipes at the New York Dolls. Not quite the true barometer of top quality given that Icky Thump is a bit average, but this is what Jack White had to say about his appearance on the show:
  3. Including Medulla and Drawing Restraint 9? Interesting.
  4. Boards of Canada - Geogaddi The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses David Bowie - Low Eno - Another Green World DJ Shadow - Endtroducing.... There are lots more, but these are the most immediate ones I can think of.
  5. Your feelings for Bitter Tea are mine for Blueberry Boat - pleasant enough but doesn't really hit its stride in the way the others do. When I say others I mean everything bar Rehearsing My Choir, I haven't plucked up the courage to listen to that yet.
  6. The brass accompaniments on this are superb. The highlight of the album for me.
  7. Reading this thread I think I'm the only person who likes Gallowbird's Bark also!?
  8. I'm sure Welsh Rich won't mind me pointing out that it was actually another VC'er, and another Richard, joss ackland's spunky backpack (or the Artist Formerly Known As Big Bank Hank) and who was the mainman behind that. Thanks for the comments though. Keep them peeled for a Vetiver interview soon.
  9. Possibly the latter, probably the former. I've only heard the first track and it was that good it has frightened me not to listen to the rest in case it let me down. That was two days ago.
  10. The best ones have been elected, although there's a suspicious lack of U2, but I will plump for Phil Collins - Another Day In Paradise. How comforting it must be to sing about the plight of the homeless from your millionaire's tax haven in Switzerland. Prick.
  11. Yup, that's my favourite Byrds' album. NP: Haven't decided yet. Hold the line, I'll be right back.
  12. Two Lone Swordsmen - Wrong Meeting
  13. closely followed by its seven brothers.
  14. In no order: Excellent: Gruff Rhys LCD Soundsystem Panda Bear Radicalfashion Good: The Earlies Klaxons Fair to Middling: PG Six Wilco Arcade Fire That is all.
  15. No, I've not heard anything else. So, yeah, a hook-up would be good. It might take me a while to get round to listening to it but I'm sure it'll be worth it. If there's anything you'd like in return, just shout.
  16. Greetings, Richmond. NP: I like this. Doesn't he sound yer man from Midlake? All: Yes, m_thomp he does. Thanks guys
