Wha? I've never heard this song... Whats it from?
-
Seriously, I think it's pretty clear to me that it's written about the relational dischord that occurs between a man and his wife when the man goes off on tour. This is a common theme for Tweedy, I'd say...which makes sense. Listen to IG and than Say You Miss Me...I find them similar in theme.

"Am i the only one who thinks impossible germany is probably the worst song on the album? A decent solo from nels, but the outro is the cheesiest hogwash I could imagine them releasing... the guitar tones and hooks remind me more of music played as background on the weather channel than of the inventive and energetic band I know and love." Allow me to quote myself: "....P.S.- Impossible Germany...I can't help but think of smooth jazz."

Where can you get the 60 dollar tickets? Or is it some exclusive thing....I try and try, but I'm never quite 'hip' enough, dammit!

My Morning Jacket it up there for me. I'd say Wilco is better overall, but that isn't really fair, as Wilco have been around for longer. MMJ live is just an EXPERIENCE though. As good as it feels when the band comes back for an encore, thats what an ENTIRE MMJ concert it like. I say MMJ at the Rivera, than Wilco the next day. I enjoyed both concerts, don't get me wrong, but MMJ blew them away. Wilco is just older and in a different place now, and thats cool.

I love the chorus of Shake it off, and that whole bit after it. The verse, not so much. Lyrics are cool, vocals okay, but I find the chord progression just a bit...silly. Still like the song though, when the flangy wurly kicks in with the drums and that killer, footstomp groove, it makes it worth it.

I doubt the demos would be intresting to hear, if there are any. This is a very different record than YHF...the songs went through much much less re-working in the studio, from what I understand.

Woha woha woha....let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater. That was really the only track that made me think of smooth jazz. And I'll probably get used to it and end up liking it. Just as back when I first got into Wilco, I found AM too cheezy to listen to, along with songs like 'say you miss me' and such. Now, I love them. This album is about as far from airbrushed as you could get. The guitars are off tempo at times, Tweedy struggles to hit a few notes, sometimes a guitar sounds a bit out of tune. It's glorious.

Any lyrics on the new album in particular stand out to you?

The line 'Drunks are richocheting'...I can't help but feel that I've heard that line before...even from Tweedy? Or mabye it was Elliott Smith...somewhere, someone had Drunks are richocheting through the streets in a song or poem and it's driving me nuts! -
I think these are some of the best vocals I've heard from Tweedy on a studio record. He really sounds great. Other than that, the only thing I'll say at these point is that Walken or Shake it Off would've made a better opener. I always imagined Shake it Off as the opener. However, it's hard to see Either Way anywhere else on the disc. After hearing the whole thing(admittedly only once) I'm confused as to why a song like Either Way would make the cut but We Can Make it Better or Lets Not Get Carried Away didn't...but I'm not complaining, I'm sure they will show up off Wilcoworld. P.S.- Impo

I never reall liked WS, and everyone told me I needed to see them live. Fair enough, i tried...i missed a show, but I caught a live performance from a DVD. It was worse. Black Keys, anybody? I know the comparision is tired, but still...

I stayed up for it. Wasn't bad, tho it was funny seeing Jay just standing there all stone-faced, with his bandmates rockin' out all 'kewl'...specially the electric guitar play. He had it strung all low and was dancing around...weeee-hah. Course I could've just been over-tired and thought it was amusing.

You guys are all absouletly bonkers. I'm 18, and I think these songs rock. They aren't mabye bashing away, but they still have great energy. The one thing I could ever slight (and really never bothered me at all except when I was trying to get other people into Wilco) about YHF is they sound so friggin low key, which was mostly due to Jeff's migrane-induced whispering. -

Well currently I'm at a local community college getting my gen eds out of the way, then I'll be going to Columbia in Chicago. So I'm mostly self-taught right now, but I am serious about studying it and don't just dick around with it. I consider myself a student, simpler to say that I am going to school for it instead of a long disclaimer. -
Well he said he was speaking specifically for home use. And yes, while Pro Tools is practically an industry standard, it is also legendary for it's clunky interface, and the cheaper versions are known to be glitchy at times. As far as preamps go, one you get beyond the begining level you'll probably want to invest in better preamps period. I personally have a M-Audio Firewire 1814...I got a good deal on it. It has two preamps that work pretty well...but eventually I'm going to upgrade and increase my number of preamps ( im thinking of going all the way, and building some 7th circle audio pre

"You must not be doing very well." Whatever man. Somebody suggested that it sounded like it wasn't mastered, and I could see why they would think that and posted reasons saying why. But I was in no way asserting myself as knowing whether it was, or making any assumptions about anybody. I gave my reasons why I thought it might be just the final mix without mastering, but also said it was just as likely that this was it. -
I'm based on a DAW, but I don't use pro tools. Pro Tools isn't really worth the expense. If you have a decent hardware setup, DAW can be very economical...see if you can get demos of cubase, sonar, abelton live, etc...and the one that works best for you.

I think it's the most obviously soul-influenced one I've heard of the studio recordings. A couple years ago I would've groaned, but now it just makes me smile. Great opener in my mind as far as Wilco goes. Another 'wtf are they doing' moment from the people that are expecting an avant-garde experience from Wilco.

Well I don't have the whole album, just whats on the site. But I'm liking the sound of it. And they are playing the Vic the day after my birthday. How can I resist?

No, I wasn't active on the board around then. But I am also going to school for Sound Engineering if that carries any weight.. It just sounds unmastered, balances are a tad odd in places. Theres a big huge jump in dynamics when the solo kicks in for You Are My Face, and then nels guitar goes real quiet in an unnatural way. Mastering would smooth that jump out so it would sound as loud, but not physically jump up so much in volume. The piano intro on Walken sounds distant. Mastering would add a bit of compression to the tracks, which would make that piano part a bit more prominent before it ble
