  1. The MSM does seem to have a lot invested in making SP look stoopid, which she does it perfectly well on her own. It's just an easy story for the media and Letterman wannabees to beat to death, with the effect of making SP a sympathetic figure.
  2. Greatest individual performance ever.
  3. Brings to mind the Phils' 26-7 win over the Mets in 85. I remember after a walk to the Mets' leadoff man in the 9th, hearing to Harry Kalas say, "The one thing you don't want to do with a 19-run lead in the 9th is walk somebody." After a pause, he corrected himself. "Actually, with a 19-run lead in the 9th, you can do pretty much anything." Or maybe it was Whitey.
  4. Interesting how RM's legacy gets qualified here at VC. would we be harsher if he'd served under republican administrations? Will Rummy get the same treatment when he goes?
  5. So Animal House was not far off.
  6. Struck me as a man who was very smart, but not very wise. A man who put too much faith in numbers. but history is always easy in retrospect. RIP.
  7. why is it that every time i go to the yahoo page for my email, i see a photo of MJ in full bizarro mode accompanying the latest funeral news? Why can't they use a mug from the "Off The Wall" days, where he looks like a regular guy?
  8. Just got a Wilco email saying it's time for fans to "step up" and buy extra copies so it charts higher. Ah, no.
  9. Argh! Was great as General Bradley in Patton. RIP.
  10. wasn't there a bit in a woody allen film where they try to reconstruct the great leader from only his nose?
  11. Pat and Mikael are not wearing their hats. That means they're dead, right?
  12. RIP Tiger Stadium. Looks like the first base dugout is the only thing left intact. would be neat if they kept it.
  13. Heck of a dancer. Never a big fan of the tunes - a bit over wrought, over produced, not really my thing. I saw him as more an entertainer than an artist. Millions and millions loved him, so there was something there. RIP MJ.
  14. Perhaps what he's saying is "All women are unfaithful, but as long as you can pretend the kid is yours, there's no problem."
  15. To disapprove of a mixed-race relationship is one thing. Sounds like he's grudgingly tolerating the relationship, as long as it doesn't produce offspring. Just a weird place to draw the abortion line.
  16. Really, my penis resents this guy.
  17. "A visibly shaken Hank Kingsley paid tribute with a low-key 'Hey, now'."
  18. I haven't heard the new album. Does Jeff do that vocal thing like Cher did in "Believe"? All the cool new songs have that.
  19. Even if you hate the Mets, how can you not pity them after this? Insult to injury has to be that lame toss to 2nd base - at least toss it home.
  20. Real `Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds' gravely ill AP, Jun 12, 2009 9:23 am PDT They were childhood chums. Then they drifted apart, lost touch completely, and only renewed their friendship decades later, when illness struck. Not so unusual, really. Except she is Lucy Vodden — the girl who was the inspiration for the Beatles' 1967 psychedelic classic — and he is Julian Lennon, the musician son of John Lennon. They are linked together by something that happened more than 40 years ago when Julian brought home a drawing from school and told his father, "That's Lucy in the sky with diamonds
  21. Poison at the Tonys? Shoulda seen it .
  22. Yeah. I mean, what was the last team to win a Game 7 on the road? I'd be a little more confident in the Cavs if their one win didn't also feature a blown 23-point lead at home.
