I was just curious. If one is illiterate do the poll staffers read the ballot out to you? I said "literacy" not highly-developed hand/eye coordination.

I wish I hadn't just learned that anyone who had anything to do with "Million Dollar Baby" had any role whatsoever in this new flick...

Is literacy a requirement for voting?

I loved Garden State. But then again, I could probably watch a movie of Natalie Portman reading the newspaper...

great call, I'd left that one out. I still remember my dad playing that for me when I was quite young and thinking "boy, this guy must be pretty damn mad at this woman..." -
I was wondering who would jump on that first.

The weather feels nice tonight. In houston. In september. Thank you, you who control such things.

One of my problems with Blockbuster (and maybe this is a store-specific thing) was the fact that I was constantly approached by employees whose knowledge of movies was limited to what was on the "new releases" shelf. That, and the fact that "classics" seemed to include mostly titles ranging from last week's new releases to last month's new releases. I don't consider myself much of a movie snob, but those kinds of things just got under my skin pretty quickly...

One of my all-time favorite movies. Because of netflix neither my wife nor I has had to step foot in a Blockbuster in about two years or so. That's a gift in itself. I'm going to have to go buy that movie. Thanks for the reminder!

just curious--have you ever been in a band that played gigs? I know that even with the miniscule cover bands I was in during college and after law school, at times I was dying for a break--although many times it was clear to the audience that it was a set break and not an encore, so this post may not be applicable. There's the "take care of shit" side, including usually taking a much-needed trip to the urinal, restocking on beer or shots or whatever... but also, there were times where we would decide to change things up because of the crowd and/or crowd reaction, or when a player seemed of

I just got word (email) from my best friend's wife that after 4 months in Iraq he's back on American soil and will be with the wife and kids back home tonight around 9. Little smilies can't adequately express my excitement and relief but I'll let them try

It would be a lot easier for me to consider that the individuals who hijacked and crashed the 4 American jetliners were somehow backed or supported by the U.S. (or whatever other conspiracy theories abound about 9/11) were it not for the seemingly cluster-fuck action/reaction on so many levels just before and especially after the deal went down. This is in no way a disparagement to the brave men and women of the various agencies (fire, rescue, CG, police, common folks) who rallied to aid people during and after the attack, but rather more at the depictions we've seen and read about the coordi

unfortunately most of the places we fish in Colorado are catch and release. But this one sure was fun bringing in. Took about 20 minutes, as it sprinted way upstream a couple of times. My cousin's wife got a couple of good pics:

Here's me pretending to be a big fisherman, and a VERY pissed off trout. They evidently really take it personally when they can't breathe...
