As a side point, Bob Dylan figured this out back in 1964/5.

http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=08...;show_article=1 Music cannot change the world, says Neil Young Canadian folk rock legend Neil Young said he has lost all hope that music can change the world, as he presented a documentary about his 2006 anti-war concert tour at the Berlin film festival on Friday. "I know that the time when music could change the world is past. I really doubt that a single song can make a difference. It is a reality," Young told reporters. "I don't think the tour had any impact on voters." But the silver-haired frontman of the sixties supergroup Crosby, S

I don't know. Seems like they couldn't get too many bands to commit this year. I guess I will pass too.

I know I predicted this in the NSFW work thread, but it would have been too easy to predict it here.

I can't wait to see how bobbob and Treehuggin' find a way to get into a fight in this thread.

I still can't believe what douche Romney is.

2 questions re Romney. First, why is he "suspending" his campaign? He is not suspending anything. He is dropping out. He quits. Stop playing semantic games with everyone. And second, what the fuck is up with this quote from an article I just read? He then told the crowd he disagrees with McCain on a number of issues, but that he'd given the matter a lot of thought and if he fought on all the way to the Republican convention, " I forestall the launch of a national campaign and frankly I'd be making it easier for Senator Clinton or Obama to win. Frankly, in this time of war, I simply can

You're gonna like this guy. He's all right. He's a good fella.

Interesting. I never really thought about it that way, but it makes complete sense. And I guess in this scenario (i.e., Ledger's overdose), it doesnt matter if he intentionally, or unintentionally, or accidentally committed suicide. It seems pretty clear that he was intentionally trying to stop suffering.

What have you changed your mind about?
MattZ replied to Good Old Neon's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
I changed my mind about guided by voices. Maybe they are pretty damn good. Damnit. -
welcome to the Brave New World.

Belichick was also showing faith in, and challenging, his offense (which let's not forget was one of the all-time best this year). In the end, it came back to bite him, but Belichick has never been the conservative playbook coach. The average coach would kick the field goal there knowing that he could never be criticized for going with the odds. Belichick separates himself from other coaches with decisions like this. And now he has to live with much of the blame. I hate the guy. But I can never fault a coach for believing in his team and challenging them to win. It took guts. I second

Given everything that was on the line and the many different subplots (NY v Bos, Shockey drinking beers and Boss going 46 yards, Peyton upstairs, Coughlin almost fired, Perfect Season, David vs Goliath, Spygate, Seau gunning for a ring, etc.), I'd say that it was one of the best games I have ever seen. Even the sloppy play was infused with an intensity unlike any in a game that I can remember. And Eli won the MVP for that last drive. I dont think anyone thought the Giants would march down the field and score a TD to win. He orchestrated that drive, and he deserved the MVP. It's football

Thanks so much Owl. Can't wait to get home to re-live the experience(s). Stupid question: is there a way to download the whole show, or does it have to be done as separate FLAC files? I looked around on your website, but I didnt see this issue discussed anywhere. Sorry if I missed it.

8.5 hours. And counting.

It's annoying that we have to ask if Neko and Dan will be along for this tour. They aren't the New Pornographers without them. Both of them.

But in an ironic twist, this crash involved a van full of illegal immigrants which slammed into an SUV owned by the Department of Homeland Security. The Arizona Department of Public Safety said the Chrysler van was heading west Tuesday morning when it was involved in a three-vehicle chain-reaction crash near the Elliot Road

If we talk about Johan Santana for the next 20 pages it would be fine with me.

Not a complaint (see other threads for that) but a request

The fake encore has just become part of rock and roll. Sort of like the seemingly obligatory terrible opening band (not in Wilco's case). Or 11pm curfews. I suppose I have accepted it for what it is. I don't like it but I have accepted it. If given the choice, I would probably give up the 2-3 songs I'd miss at every show for the 1 in 10 shows where a real encore happened. So much about shows is pre-planned that you really feel like you are part of something special when a real encore happens. The most special moments at special shows for me have been when bands took a detour off the pr -
The twins were always going to prefer a lesser trade with the mets because they dont want to face Santana 10x every year and in a short series in the playoffs. If the Yanks and Sox didnt get into a bidding war, the NL was the obvious landing spot. And the mets were the obvious buyer in the NL.* * 20/20 hindsight

How come there isn't a thread for the best show on TV?
MattZ replied to OOO's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
I had a conversation at work last week about the Wire with someone. He asked me if I was up to date. I said I was. I am. The problem: he thought up to date meant "a week ahead" given this whole On Demand thing. So he gave away the Prop Joe thing inadvertently. True, I strangled him to the brink of death, but I stand by my position that "up to date" in the context of this season's The Wire means that you have watched the most recently aired Sunday episode. Not the "one week ahead On Demand" thing. I mean, really!! Learn from my mistakes people. Set the record straight PRIOR TO any d -
So, I ran some numbers earlier today and bobbob is about 18 minutes away from posting about why this is horrible trade for the Mets.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/20...s-santana_N.htm The New York Mets have agreed to a trade for two-time Cy Young Award winner Johan Santana, giving up four prospects to acquire the left-handed ace of the Minnesota Twins, according to two high-ranking Twins officials with knowledge of the talks and a person close to Santana. The deal is pending the Mets and Santana reaching agreement on a six- or seven-year contract extension and that Santana passes a physical; they have been granted a 48 to-72-hour window to do so.
