Can someone explain to me why LPs that come out these days -- for what seem to be standard-length albums -- almost inevitably come out as double LPs? Modern Times, YHF, etc? Why? Why do I get Poor Places and Reservations as the only two songs that they can fit on a side? We arent talking about Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands here. Is the average album longer than it used to be even though the number of tracks remains the same/similar? Are these new LPs made with a higer fidelity than the old(er) ones? That seems unlikely to me because I dont think todays LPs sound any better than older L

For what its worth, a very interesting profile in the New Yorker last week (?) about Bill by David Remnick. Not sure if its mentioned elsewhere, but its worth a read. No matter which side of the aisle you fall on. Its not for the feint of heart though. In typical NY'er style it is long as shit.

You mean sort of like the Republicans who forced Clinton to focus on Whitewater and impeachment threats rather than focus on more important issues like running the nation? And now criticize Clinton for not doing more to stop Osama? I wouldnt say its interesting. I would say its typical, its transparent, and its ridiculous.

Bro, I gotta be honest. I am reading through these posts and, at the risk of stating the obvious, it looks like you are the one that cant take a joke.

I can take a joke. Your jokes arent funny.

Jarobi was only on the first album so i wonder if he gets in. Jarobi falls into the same category as Sudden Impact for me and my buds. We always laughed at him. Such a random unnecessary member of the band. Or at least thats what it seemed like. Theres one line on the first album where he raps: "and ME...Jarobi" completely out of a tune and sync. Gets a laugh everytime.
-
Where's Jarobi from tribe called quest? That guy always gets overlooked.

Fair point... forgot about him. Obvious oversight. And its also true that Moneyball never said that stats are the only thing that matters. But Moneyball did stand for the general premise that at the end of the day, the fairest and most honest judge of talent is the stats. So my clumsily argued point was that I agree that Cabrera has better stats, but that I might still prefer a gritty/hustling type -- e.g., Wright. Its very rare that teams can do this. And its why I have very low expectations for them now. Pedro is not helping matters. Sometimes I really hate my favorite team.
-
For what its worth, I dont think that Wright is better than Cabrera. But I do think that I would rather have Wright than Cabrera. I have seen games where Cabrera just checks out mentally. I understand the moneyball argument that stats are the only thing that matters, but I cant buy that here. Cabrera falls asleep in the field way too often and jogs to first on groundouts. He is an absolutely sick talent though. And frankly, he and Ryan Howard are going to be the two best players in the NL for a long time.

Clearly I need to check out this RTT thing more often... -
Jeez guys, get a room.

It was a refreshing example of seeing a real person. Not the scripted out talking points bullshit that we are forced to see on a regular basis from both democrats and republicans. Good for him for getting angry and being himself.

I dont disagree with you, but I am not as optimistic... Heroin and cocaine also come from plants. So now we are splitting hairs over which plants and which drugs are benign and which ones arent. Or which ones are "mostly" benign as you put it. You are preaching to the choir with me, but I think a large portion of the population does not distinguish. And they will argue its a slippery slope. And maybe it is a slippery slope.
-
If you think I am reading through all 66 pages of the RTT, yes, you are going crazy.

I am not looking to pick a fight on this because I dont feel nearly as strongly about this as you do, but I wouldnt say its a trend of complaining about benefits for parents. Its simply the truth in many cases. Parents call in sick to work when their kids are sick. Parents also leave at 5pm on the dot if they have to pick up their kids from day care. Thats not a critique or a complaint. Its a fact. I work with one other person at my job who has the same/similar functions as me. If a project needs to get completed at the last minute, it invariably ends up with me doing it because she ha

How do they come up with any of these numbers? What does "$ in productivity" even mean? And how is it measured? And how does anyone know that Joe Schmoe was less productive today because he was hungover when he got to work? And how are his three unproductive hours translated into $$? EDIT: Not everyone works at a job where they make widgets and sell them so you can say that 3 unproductive hours = x fewer widgets in the market. Teachers, admins, lawyers, the short order cook?

Jon Papelbon is the best baseball thread ever

I will never understand why sources leak shit like this before it actually happens. This only kills the morale of the team and makes Girardi a lame duck. Although it would be close to a miracle, the Marlins still have/had a shot. Why leak something like this now? Unless the bad blood is so bad that they just want to make Girardi suffer. -

Jeez dude thats lame. A couple of weeks ago you were on here telling everyone that the Marlins had a great shot of making the playoffs and that they had a good shot at knocking the Mets out of the playoffs. Now you are back to "we only should have won 50"? Thems is sour grapes. -
For me, its not that the band isnt worth $120. Because let's face it, moments at shows can be priceless. And those moments can last forever (or at least until you go senile). The problem with the $120 for me is knowing that some f*cker who doesnt even like the band or have a creative bone in his/her body is profiting $90 on the name of one of my favorite bands. I could bring myself to spend $120 on a band I love in a heartbeat. I could never give $120 to a scalper though.

I love Randy Newman -- dont you dare knock Randy Newman. He is the man. I have no problem with your comparison of Mayer to shitty 80s James Taylor, though.

Pedro goes 5 innings and gives up 4 runs. Willie Randolph is quoted as saying this is an encouraging start for Pedro. *Sigh* -
Ok, that didnt come out the way I meant it...
