  1. I hear you, but the truth is, who has a chance of beating the Yanks from the NL other than the Mets? They at least split the regular season. Seems that if the Yanks are going to be the AL rep that we have to hope its the Mets that they play. Until, of course, bobbob tells us that the Marlins have the best shot of beating the Yanks. Which is something I would roll my eyes to, but I suppose he does have the 2003 season as the ace up his sleeve. And the Marlins are certainly dangerous. This all being said, for those of you Yankee haters out there, Sir Stewart is right. Nothing would cause
  2. I became a big wilco fan back in 01/02 when YHF came out, but BTs of Jeff's acoustic shows are what pushed me over the edge. The first time I heard Mountain Bed solo acoustic (didnt yet know MA) was an (almost) religious experience. I had never heard anything so beautiful, so longing, so perfect in every way. To see that it is not on here bums me out, but even with the glaring omission (I really think its his best solo acoustic song), I will be like a kid in a candy store on Oct 24. Fantastic news. Really cant wait.
  3. As a mets fan, there is nothing I want less. Nothing could ruin what has turned out to be a wonderful season better than having to watch the Yankee fans gloating and jumping up and down in Shea Stadium. And then the back pages of the tabloids. And the "who's your daddy chants". Ugh, please. I suppose that I could look at it the other way, which is that if the Mets ever beat the yanks in the WS that this would be the greatest thing in the history of everything. But I remember how 2000 felt. And I have to admit that I think the Yanks would smack the mets around again in 06.
  4. The reign of the Braves is over. Tomahawk chop this, brahs.
  5. its their best halloween 2nd set in my mind. NP: Eeels, Shootenanny!
  6. It was a classic moment in VC history. Thats for sure. It was a movie, i think.
  7. Tell us how you really feel. I suppose the inner critic in all of us feels the need to compare albums to ones that preceded them, but why not just enjoy the album for what it is instead of the need to immediately rank it in some canon of Dylan lore? I dont think anyone on here was claiming that this album breaks new ground or that DYlan has invented a new genre of music. Its just a fun album that people are enjoying. I am tired of the Lanois soaked production of Oh Mercy and TOOM, and I am very happy to be knee deep in an album of rollicking fun. And you know what? My guess is that Dyla
  8. I guess my point in all of this, is that what makes me most happy, is that Dylan is still being Dylan. Dylan means something to me -- he's a concept as much as anything -- and it means always being true to yourself and blazing a trail. Never repeating yourself and striving always to get better in your eyes, not anyone elses. If Bob were to try to dig up the past and recreate it, or cover modern tunes with Rick Rubin, it would devastate me for the music's sake but maybe more because it would mean that the idea that we can all be unique and true to ourselves lost its last great ambassador.
  9. I am as impressed with Dylan's output today as I am with his output in his "prime". I think he is still pushing the envelope and making statemetns, I just think the envelopes and statements are different. The guy is constantly touring and revitalizing a type of music that had disappeared from the scene. He continues to do what he wants and he is 65 for crying out loud. In my book that makes him as much of a rebel/punk as he ever was when when he was plugging in or singing about Masters of War. I think his lyrics are as good as they've ever been, I think his voice has developed a complexi
  10. I hereby repeat everything I said a couple of pages ago. Nice quick work on the avatar.
  11. I beat up people that yell for songs at shows.* * ok, i just roll my eyes and wish they would shut the hell up already. And think to myself that the NEXT time someone does it I am going to beat them up.
  12. I hear ya. But with the 7th pick, the options fall off pretty far. I know people have a lot of love Rudi Johnson and Stephen Jackson, but I dont. And if Portis is still there, I am going to be tempted.
  13. Curious what pick you took portis with. My draft is in a week and i have the 7th pick. I'm worried that Portis will be there and that I may have to take him.
  14. Damn! I couldn't find the right pic. Caliber beat me to it. I've only got love for you bobbob. Seriously. Its all in good fun... Just trying to push some of your buttons since you've touched on mine the last couple of days.
  15. Can someone remind me how many games under .500 the Marlins are?
  16. I suppose given yesterday's discussion of the starting pitching staffs of the Mets and the Marlins, that it would be lame and immature of me to bring up yesterday's games (Williams 7IP, 3ER and Nolosco 4 IP, 6 ER) to bolster my arguments since one game doesnt really prove anything. So, I am not going to do that.
  17. Mix tapes will always be better than mix CDs. I have my tape deck from my home stereo in my closet because I cant bear to throw it away. So many hours spent making mix tapes. So many hours.
  18. I'm with caliber. I dont need my mp3 player to sound pristine because I am usually listening to it on the train, at the gym or somewhere else that's noisy. If I am at home, I listen to the CD/LP through my stereo. I suppose, as with everything, what you need will depend on what you need.
  19. I suppose that this is something already obvious to everyone, but another way to fight this horrible trend is to be sure that you are smart about buying gear in used shops/pawn shops. Be sure you never buy gear that is stolen (crossed out serial numbers, etc.) and be sure that if you ever SEE stolen gear in one of those shops that you boycott the store and tell all your friends about it. I know this probably has a minimal effect, sort of like boycotting ticket scalpers, but it cant hurt.
  20. Still listening to MODERN TIMES. Does he really rhyme bitches with orphanages? Does he really do that? Gawd.
  21. I dont know if ipod is being used here like scotch tape and kleenex to just mean any old mp3 player, or if you mean an ipod specifically. If its the latter, I have never owned an ipod, but have been very happy with the 30 GB Creative Labs product I bought 2-3 yrs ago. Its way cheaper than the ipod of the same size. The downside would be that its not as small or cool looking as the ipod. But the difference in price was so pronounced (100 bucks I think) that I just couldnt justify going with the ipod. So, shop around... there are plenty of good mp3 players out there that arent made by appl
  22. I have to admit. You crack me up. I am almost hoping for a MetsvMarlins series now. But jeez bro. You realize that your statement above is ignoring the fact that the Mets have a better team ERA than the Marlins. Isnt that all that matters? Who cares which pitchers give up the runs? Dont you want your team giving up less runs altogether per game? The team that gives up the less runs per 9 innings wins. Too funny.
  23. How can I refute that statement? Hello? Look at the standings. The Marlins are 16.5 games back. Are you kidding me? Your statement was that the Mets have no starting pitching. Do I think they have the best staff in baseball? No. I never said they had great pitching. But I think they have a very good starting pitching staff. That staff keeps them in games, gets them to the 6th or 7th and allows the team to play to its strengths. Its relief and its offense. The fact that the Mets went after other picthers only proves the one thing that no one can argue. That you can never have too
