Here is what happened. The Beatles were 4 different people who, notwithstanding most indications otherwise, were human. They all had different thoughts/ideas/opinions about what they wanted to do and where they wanted to go. As a result, there was no choice for them but to break up as a band. Blaming it on any one of them is silly. All 4 of them were right, and all 4 of them were wrong. It's really that simple.

The fact that there are mutiple stereo mixes is why this is confusing. I am no longer confused, however. Thanks cryptique and bleedorange.

I have to admit that now I am confused too.

Thanks for posting this. It's interesting, but I don't believe a single word of it.

Let me preface everything I am about to say by mentioning at the outset, that much of this is meant tongue in cheek: Can someone explain to me the fuss over Beatles Rock Band? Or Rock Band, for that matter? I start out with the following assumptions: that video games seek to recreate fantasy for all of us, and the closer these games get to reality, the more enticing they are. Because you can be dropped into a war zone somewhere with a backpack and a bazooka, and singlehandedly fight 3000 guerrilla terrorists to save the girl. And the more real it seems, the more exciting. But doens't th

Oh, I have been lurking at the Martin board for a couple of months now. Never posted though. Really a great place if you are a guitar geek. Or, an aspiring guitar geek. This guitar will never be sold. Unless one of my heirs sells it after I am in the ground. So, the aesthetic issue, as you said, is really just mine. I will take the week with it and see how it feels. Although, after falling in love with it last night, it is going to be very hard to give it up. As I said, this is my first Martin, and you know what they say about first loves. And I kind of like the imperfection in a

Yep. Even the tuners made me gasp. I am not worthy of this instrument. Yep, you nailed my thinking. I played most of the Ds (D-28, HD-28, HD-28V, etc.), and the rosewood on the 28s/35s just didn't sit right with me. I quickly found that I preferred the mahogany punch of the D-18. And when I stumbled across the D-18GE, well, that was all she wrote. Also helped that I happened to read a recent article about Elvis Costello in Acoustic Guitar Magazine where he said his main songwriting guitar now is a 1947 D-18. Thanks again for your help, jimmyjimmy. Post that 66 D-18 for me to chec

Haha, yes to everything. It's my favorite Yo La Tengo t-shirt, it's a D-18GE, and I dont know much about milling or wood, but the irregularity is very symmetrical. So when you say "book-matched" and "reverse grain image", even though I don't know what that means, it makes intuitive sense, and it would be how I describe what it looks like. Thanks for the response. I have to admit that it's a bit odd because it makes the top look like it is in 3 pieces, and of course, my instinct was to be disappointed. I would prefer to have a guitar without irregularities (especially at that price!). Bu

So I did it. I saved, and I saved. And I waited, and I searched. And I searched some more. And then I bought it. My very first Martin guitar. To make a long story short, I was able to get an amazing deal through an authorized dealer online. And there is always a catch -- I had to buy it online, sight unseen. I was worried about doing it, but the difference in price was so dramatic, that I couldn't pass up the opportunity. (if you want to know where I got it, let me know...) Anyway, I take the guitar out of the box, and it is beautiful. Breathtaking. Except for two wood grain line

Now I remember why I was an independent all those years.

I read Atlas Shrugged and thought it was a pretty awful book. Basically, as Good Old Neon says, it is poorly written on just about every level I can think of. ikol, did you like the book itself, or the theme(s) of the book? Just curious. Obviously, plenty of people like the book itself. -
Weird, I love Gold and had no idea it's a double album.

I dont care that Favre is going to play for the Vikings, but let's not overstate the relevance of Jordan playing for the Wizards. Favre will be playing for a division rival. If Jordan decided to play for the Knicks, it would be a fair comparison. Jordan playing for the Wizards was like Favre playing for the Jets last year.

Damn, those guys were cool.

happy birthday, bud. You will always be cryptique to me.

Well, I did it. I pre-ordered the Mono box. And because of Col Hapablap, I didn't use Tower. I feel so dirty.
-
haha, of course! I just love how there are little moments in Dylan songs where you just have to shake your head. Here's another: From the Someday Baby on Tell Tale Signs: "everdayyyyy Im becoming more... of a hyp o crite."

oh, I didn't mean to suggest there was only one. There are many. Some we share, and some are our own.

You know that part in Series of Dreams from the Bootleg Vols 1-3, where he sings, "all i seemed...to be doing was CLIMB"? You know that part? That right there is what it is all about. All of it. You either get it, or you don't.

The biggest reason I am an acoustic guy is that I live in an apt in NYC and I can't turn up an amp loud enough to sound good. I've got an SG and a Blues Jr. Sounds tinny and shitty when it is on 1 or 2. And no headphone jack. I know this doesnt help anyone with questions about attenuators. Just sharing in the pain.
-
Yes, I have not surrendered. I have just agreed to disagree. Do we get a room now?
-
Ok, I see what you are getting at (now). I still think it is a stretch to say that intentionally throwing at players, even if against the rules, is cheating. We've beaten this horse enough, so let's move on.
-
Look, I granted to you for purposes of this argument that we could assume that Cabrera was hit unintentionally. So, let's leave aside your first paragraph. Are you really comparing steroids/spitballs/nail files to pitchers intimidating players by throwing inside/hitting them? Really? EDIT: and to answer your question, no, cheating is not good baseball.
-
And my larger point certainly still stands, which is that Cabrera wouldn't do what he does without armor, and Porcello wouldn't either, if he had to hit. Probably. Maybe.
-
Your original point may still stand, but so does mine. First off, you don't know for certain that it was non-intentional. But let's say it wasn't intentional for argument's sake. Why is it bad baseball for the Tigers to try to intimidate Boston players/pitchers so that Boston pitchers make sure they don't come anywhere NEAR Cabrera the next time he comes up to bat? Doesn't that benefit the Tigers? Maybe we just have a different definition of "bad baseball" but everyone is looking for an edge. This just strikes me as the Tigers looking for an edge. Which is good baseball.

I dont begrudge someone crowding the plate. My problem is when guys crowd the plate because they are wearing protective gear. If you are going to crowd the plate to try to get an advantage, you should pay the price if you get hit. What sort of price does a guy with a huge arm guard pay?
