Interesting you would ask that, David -- it was my first thought too. But I think that if he wins the nomination, it won't, since the move-oners will vote for a sock puppet over whoever the GOP nominee is. It could actually hurt with independents, but these are people that are not so short sighted to have it affect them that much. How's that for an answer?

I too mainly only listen to boots, and mostly only more recent ones (since Nels joined). I think that the "new Wilco" does such a great job with the older material, the records generally pale in comparison. In preparation for the residency shows though, I created a mix on my ipod of only the studio recordings, and I am enjoying it.

I have pretty much stopped applauding etc. after the end of the first set, and hold my energy until the break before the second encore. I agree (though never thought about it much), the fake encore is dopey.

I stayed at the Paris for about 10 days about a year ago. The location is great because it is pretty central on the strip. Ask for a newly decorated room overlooking the Bellagio fountains -- they are really nice. Also, gamble in the cheap places, not the big casinos. There is one across the street from Ballys that I play craps at ($5 table) and you can find $3 tables downtown. I played for about 10 hours over the 10 days I was there and made about $20 all told. Go to the Hard Rock hotel and have drinks in the center bar -- it's a hoot with the "chick in the tightest shortest dress" conte
