  1. No prob! I need writers for the exact same reason.
  2. The Owl & The Bear needs writers! If you're interested in writing for us, please PM me. Here are the guidelines. Record/DVD/movie reviews* from the last 12 months, including reissues. At least 2 reviews per week, 100-250 words per disc (easy!). We will provide MP3s, but you can also review CDs that you've picked up on your own. Record reviewers can also submit concert reviews from the last 12 months. No word limit. Reviews are graded A through F (modeled after the A/V club). Most reviews should fall into the B/D range. For a good explanation of the grading system check this out. Check O
  3. My cat would piss everywhere. It was horrible. He's on a farm* now too, unfortunately. It's been six months, and I can still smell his piss. *Animal shelter
  4. My cat was on anti-depressants for a while. When the prescription ran out, he was 10x worse than before.
  5. Okay, evidently I don't even know where I went. I was in Nikiski, which is about a million miles away from Ketchikan.

  7. Actually, that might be pedal steel on the Dylan album. At any rate, I say lap steel.
  8. Lap steel sounds good. Ever since I heard the version of "It Ain't Me Babe," from Dylan's Rolling Thunder Revue CD, I've really envied good lap steel playing.

I'm in complete agreement with you. My point was merely that Bush wants to make the comparison, but only by picking and choosing the aspects that best suit his wonderful vision of war.
  10. If that's all you plan to do in Denali, you should take the bus out to Wonder Lake Campground and camp there for a night, and then take the McKinley Bar trail (a quick loop near the campground) if you want something to do. The bus allows you to see a lot of the park, and Wonder Lake is the best campsite, with the ideal view of McKinley if the clouds aren't in the way. Good luck!

Sigh. It's no wonder that America would prefer to forget about this war, even as it continues. It's depressing as hell.
  12. I hope you're going for more than a few days if you plan to do all that! This time last year, I was just getting back from two weeks in AK. The weather was half rain/60 degrees, half sunny/75 degrees. Overall, it was a great trip. I want to visit Tongass next. I recommend, above all things, having a plan, and don't expect much of the towns. Last year, two friends and I spent one week hiking in Denali, and then drove around the Kenai Peninsula for the second week. Overall, we put almost 3,000 miles on the rental car. The driving wasn't that much fun, because we didn't really know what we

Bush is going to compare Iraq to Vietnam (again) today, but with the caveat that the analogy only works one way, that leaving early would be bad for the Middle East, but not that the war of choice is a black mark on American foreign policy, a tremendous misstep for America, and an unnecessary tragedy for thousands.
  14. You have to download the files (save as...) and then convert them to AIFF or WAV xAct. Then, you can open them in iTunes and convert them to MP3.
  15. Kerouac is most interesting for his writing method, and for On the Road. I once read some of his poetry, and it was pretty terrible. Steinbeck is good when he's trying to be cute.
  16. I'd say it's worth checking out.
  17. I'm sure they will, and I think that all band members will be living in Chicago/Indiana again this winter.
  18. Thanks for the writeup! Did a lot of people check out the Califone set?
  19. They do have some as-yet-unannounced shows coming up, as well as the possibility of an Everybody's Mother, vol. 2 live comp. (check out Vol. 1 on iTunes; it's one of my favorite CDs) in the future. They probably won't be doing any extensive touring for a while, though. Have fun at West Fest, be sure to post your thoughts after the show!!!1111
  20. I met Brooks Robinson on an airplane from Florida. A stranger said, "Hey kid, did you know that Brooks Robinson is sitting up there in first class?" Oh yeah, I also ate dinner with Nels, Glenn, and Mike Jorgensen. I also saw Jeff Tweedy during that time, but he was peering through a crack in his dressing room door. He just raised his eyebrows and then shut the door.
  21. It's not that we Americans don't care, it's just that we're preoccupied with perpetuating willful ignorance to avoid responsibility for anything other than our possessions. Americans in 2007 just happen to be particularly good at this (as we lose headway everywhere else). For more information, consult human history.
