  1. Interesting: http://thecomposites.tumblr.com/
  2. Who else still has some of the tin foil sculptures she would make? Can a photo of those be part of the VC calendar?
  3. Someone ought to make sure O'Rourke gets a copy. I too would prefer a print copy, but will read it e if that's the only format.
  4. That is fantastic! She certainly was an amazing fiction writer. Her book is now on my reading list. Many of you here knew her much better than I did. Still, I have much to thank her for.
  5. 19th century novels are the best! Madame Bovary is a great read--insightful and tragic. Tess is excellent too. I too thought about checking out that 1,001 books book, but it's too bad it gives away so much plot detail. Maybe I can use it for a quick glance at books I won't find time to read.
  6. Love that owl iphone case! That article was posted in another forum here not long ago (can't recall which one), and I found it interesting. Apparently Wilco's style isn't easy to pinpoint, but typical characteristics of the fanbase are. Alas, I own few pieces of Wilco merchandise. My family and friends just don't get it (we've all been there), so I've just learned to keep it happily to myself rather than endure the awkward silence and vibes aimed at me at mention of the band. I don't even own a Wilco shirt (what kind of fan am i?) If Wilco does the coffee thing again this fall, I'm in.
  7. Those are beautiful, moxiebean! The one with the bird screams for a lyric line or caption contest.
  8. Those look delicious, Donna! In our new backyard flower garden, roses blooms are opening this week. We were told not to expect any flowers the first year, so we're happy to see some so soon.
  9. Interesting article. If you do a google search you can access the article without having to subscribe. As for Whole Foods, one is opening soon sort-of-near me, too. I like Whole Foods, but they are expensive; I prefer smaller, local health food stores--still pricey, but not as much so. Such is the nature of healthy foods, unfortunately. (Even more off topic from the point of this thread and therefore parenthetical: local farmers' markets are fantastic!) Still, I will visit the new Whole Foods on occasion. Wonder if they play Wilco as background music? Speaking of brands and products: Does
  10. Hang in there! I think/hope I am finally wrapping one up myself that was up and down over 10 years.. I tempered it by Wilcoizing my life, having kids, letting go of Wilco, spending lots of time with my kids, coming back to Wilco, distancing my reaction to criticism and other negativity, and letting go with a creative streak that I hope will go on for awhile. It all keeps the peace for now.
  11. This is a drink coaster I made at a local glass art studio. It was inspired by this: http://www.drinkify.org/jeff%20tweedy
  12. Now that you mention that, I recall reading that news too. Apparently I repressed it! I could handle a Massachusetts vacation. What's the saying--"when you make a decision, the universe conspires to make it happen"? If it doesn't work out, then...2014! 2014! I'm patient.
  13. I love that! He has some competition, though, which I'll start posting below. I'm not sayin' it's great competition, but here it goes.
  14. It isn't easy. However, the Minnesota trip with my husband and kids ought to be fun, so it does lessen the pain! It's our "big" summer vacation. But of course the Rochester, MN show doesn't work out either! Grrrr..... It had been 5 years between Wilco shows for me until I saw them last December, so this missed live show spell is short in comparison. 2013! 2013!
  15. Does it have to be photography per se? I have been on a creative bender the past few weeks after a long hiatus and have some Wilco-lyric themed and related projects I could show pictures of here. Right now I don't have access to my photos but could post soon. I won't be heartbroken if they aren't what you're looking for. :-)
  16. The other day I had to make a long solo roadtrip, so I embraced the opportunity to listen to stuff I hadn't for a long time. I don't know what made me take The Flaming Lips The Soft Bulletin with me, because I was lukewarm to it when I first got it long ago (although I do like the Lips), but I'm glad I did--I really connected with it this time. Anyway, this thread came to mind when I paid attention to these lyrics: When you got that spider bite on your hand I thought we would have to break up the band To lose your arm would surely upset your brain The poison then could reach your heart from
  17. None! None at all! They will be in my state next week TWICE in one week while I am out of state. There is always 2013 to make up for lost live Wilco time.
  18. "Just" a Wilco fan... Thanks to you guys who mentioned and found this--fun to watch. Does anyone else think Jeff sounded and looked really bored and/or ticked off about the song request thing, though? Maybe I'm just reading into that as wishful thinking because I didn't go to those shows and am a tad jealous that I didn't get to make one of the 30 requests I must continue to work on detachment...
  19. That is a bit unsettling, isn't it! When I was a teenager in the '80s, I was enchanted by '60s oldies stations and how cool those ancient songs were. Now, there is more time distance between the '80s and now than there was between the '60s and '80s when I was in my teens.
  20. Imagine the WTF?! reaction from a devout country fan unwittingly accessing YHF through itunes!
  21. Thanks for sharing that! Well said about "intuitive" or "free moments" (in a non-jam band way, if that makes sense!). That does seem to describe their style. Interesting about audiences too. Fans in the audience can sense that too. It's interesting how a makeup of individuals and personalities can affect the feel or dynamic of a show in the moment. "I’m more concerned with living my life than writing about my life." Love that!
  22. Phone books! So many people and businesses aren't listed in them anymore as they ditch land lines or younger adults who never had a land line in the first place. Even some newer businesses aren't listed in phone books anymore, even if they have land line phone numbers. There are places I want to call now and then (order takeout, etc.) that I know have been around at least a couple of years but aren't listed in either of our 2 current phone books in yellow or white pages. Usually I can find them online, but sometimes the computer isn't on and my ipod isn't in immediate reach, and I just want
  23. One of my favorite authors! Today in the local newspaper was an AP article about him, and it said how when he was 12, he was delighted that a carnival magician tapped him with a sword and said, "Live forever!" Given his enduring literature, that turned out to be prophetic.
