But Did They Really Play Every Song?
lost highway replied to handfulofwheel's topic in After The Show
Yeah, I thought Leave Me Like You Found Me was the weakest track on the new record. But some months later I heard it at like six in the morning and discovered something great in it. It was just as good live on the broadcast. -
Damn, stream is broken. Thats what I get for laughing at Nels. Thought shalt not mock thine Cline.

Ha Nels has one string out of tune. How often does that happen?
-
Way better version than last night.

This song always makes my chest tighten a little..........boo hoo
-
Does anyone think they'll do Leave Me Like You Found Me?
-
No.

Oh thats why you get to hear Bennett's atrocious solo rendering of it on IATTBYH......yeah.
-
What would prevent them from playing "My Darling" really? Can't say that was one of the first ones I've missed at the shows, but did Tweedy say he didn't dig it any more?

This happens once in a while: Some fan has a healthy curiosity concerning the wherabouts of the famous 'Loft', and fails to consider the personal privacy aspect. Then some veteran VCer either politely or holier than thouly tells them "That is not appropriate". So yeah......I'd love to see it too, but folks raise some reasonable concerns and the bat lair remains hidden. Enjoy your time in the freezing city, I assume you're attending one of the awesome Riv shows.

I think the upcoming release is a re-issue from some old stuff. It seems after doing sonic youth and wilco O'rourke decided he was burned out on being a musician. He is still making films in Tokyo I believe. I think in the interview Tweedy didn't want to speak too much for Jim, cause who knows what he's gonna want to do in the future. He could easily do nothing on the next record, or be multi-instrumentalist and mixer. The other reason for his big role as musician on AGIB is they didn't have Pat, or Nels and they were recording live. I think between Mikael and Pat they have a lot of spar

I've been a rock musician for ten years, so I may be doomed. But earplugs are pretty good defense. The orange foam ones make most things sound like utter garbage, cause they cut way more high frequencies then low, so guitar and vocals sound really muffled and bass and kick drum really present. If you go to Walgreens they have these blue, soft rubber (I think) plugs that looks like a series of three ridges with a little pole at the end so you can pull them out/push them in. Not as good as the customized expensive plugs but for five bucks they sound way better then the standard foam bullets

If it is actually happening I assume it is hush hush. No sense building up anticipation for another DVD that might get axed. I guess we'll just see if anybody spots cameramen in the first couple nights, and if not I be the boy who cried wolf.

This thread is painful, but I still find it funny, not because people still fall for it, but because you goof balls still get a kick out of it.........jerks.

Yeah, they will gain familiarity with the majority of their catalog so I imagine the sets after the residency will be all over the map.

Quick question regarding "You Are My Face"...
lost highway replied to Relatively Clean Rivers's topic in Just A Fan
Yeah I think the kids/relations sharing facial features makes sense. The song seems to span eras and family members in a way that creates a loose kind of temporal distortion. These old ideas of struggling families (working in the gold mine) give way to a present scenario that has a similar kind of angst. Stories fit into phones, houses hemmed into homes etc. Through the chaotic world people find someway to bind a family together. Happy holidays. -
Interesting Tweedy Article from the Riverfront Times

I'm reminded of Bender in "The Breakfast Club"........"B-O-O.....H-O-O!" -
They HAVE to record the Winter Residency
lost highway replied to Relatively Clean Rivers's topic in Just A Fan
I imagine a Brendan Canty shot feature that would have that high grade digital/nice colors look he gets. It would feature five nights at the Riv split up the shows and the sets to get everything from Casino Queen to Forget the Flowers to Pieholden Suite to Reservations etc. Lots of backstage footage/interviews exploring the bands musical phases and life on the road. More personality from the mysterious Pat Sansone and Mikael Jorgensen. Glenn Kotche making jokes with their deli tray while he tapes up his fingers. John Stiratt being super mellow and friendly to the road crew. Nels putting -
I've always disliked that song, and fought off the temptation to make the most obvious and terrible joke based on the name. I will not. Phew, had to get that off my chest. I will still be happy for you if they play it. I myself would be over the moon for the AGIB style Panthers and the Good Part. But no one has a firm answer on b-sides.

Has anyone thought that these boys are going to have to rehearse their ASSES OFF for these shows. Thats going to be way hard. Some one shoot us a total assuming they only play album tracks and no B sides. Thats going to be a memory work out.
-
Ouch! God I hope not.

I would say Wilco had a pretty productive 2007 what with an album, a Grammy nomination, and a bunch of shows the world over. What do we expect in 2008? A live dvd? Rumors of recording an early 09 released album? Or maybe another album will even come out........ New collaborations/side projects?

I would be a strong proponent of both Neko Case and Joni Mitchell over Lucinda Williams, but we all like different flavors......I didn't mean that in a sexist way.
