  1. Well the Holy Grail is digital, but the interesting thing is a lot of analog lovers still use it. It's really hard to get a pedal that does delay, or reverb thats not digital without spending absurd amounts of money, and even the digital ones fall between one and two hundred bucks. Neil Young uses the reverb on his awesome Fender amp which is a spring reverb. The holy grail is common enough you can walk into a guitar shop and try it out, see what you think. It tricks me.
  2. Well Tweedy's got a more ideal situation then most of us, he's running his acoustic through more then one channel, he splits the signal. So the dry signal is always going while the one going through the sweet reverb pedal is usually shut off by the volume pedal being in the off position. He eases it forward to introduce the echo in a second channel going through the PA. Nonetheless if you just check out a Holy Grail or a Boss Delay/Reverb you can probably get it to taste using the more common on/off procedure as opposed to the fancy mix in with volume pedal method.
  3. Anyone notice you gotta be on a waiting list for these things now theyre so dang popular.
  4. If I recall he just feeds his acoustic through an Electro Harmonix Holy Grail (reverb), probably on the 'Hall' setting, he runs a dry signal constantly and then mixes in reverb using a volume pedal.
  5. does it make you a dork if you are unconcioiusly bobbing your head in front of youtube's two inch screen on your computer?

  7. certainly in this winter of Wilco silence waiting for the next album with little fodder for gossip and pointless argument the via chicago board would thrive off of the release of the long anticipated banter compilation. And whats sad is I am not joking, there is nothing new on the net these weeks.
  8. So I just saw Nels play a solo set at the coolest record store in the suburbs of Denver (Arvada if ya ever heard of it). It was great. His amp had technical difficulties, so eventually he had to plug in to the record stores ancient PA speaker. Somehow this made the whole thing awesomer. He started out playing really textural anti-guitar stuff, and then slowly moved into some more virtuoso jazzy/pretty stuff, and eventually winded his way into some noise. Super nice guy, I couldn't resist chatting with him, what with the fifteen people that were there for the in-store. He said the new Wi
  9. So if your hip on different models of samplers heres what I am interested in getting (not knowing if it exists or if these specifications are common) One that can: Play pre recorded samples between fifteen seconds and a minute or so (and loop them if possible). Be controlled by feet if at all possible (if not I will just use loops and throw them in and cut them out with a volume pedal). Cost less then two hundred dollars on Ebay. (if possible) In short I am handy in the studio, and a guitarist/singer, looking to spice up the sound of my mostly rock band at key moments without stopping the
  10. Thats also one of the best sounding mic preamps out there. I am sure you already saw the pricetag. Thats a smart idea though, if youre only using 1-3 mic's why use standard live mixing board pre's, when you can throw two very gorgeous sounding mic pre's up.
  11. If you wanna keep it fresh, never use the term 'alt-country', and only use the word rehab in passing. Oh yeah and maybe only use the words reprise records in passing. These things are all pretty well worn. Maybe get some kind of Tweedy=ubermench thing with some Nietzche quotes, thats pretty college. (excuse my impossible german, last relative hit the docks here a century ago).
  12. you could always not go until they put out a new album. Which reminds me I need to put a post on the My Morning Jacket and Radiohead fanboards about how tired I am of them playing the same songs and tell everybody why they shouldn't be excited for the show.
  13. Thats true, have you ever seen his Pat Boone impression. Yeesh.
  14. I bought the DVD and loved it the day it came out. I for one am not mad at all/haven't tried to download the mp3's yet, cause I can watch them on my tv, and listen to the last broadcast from the wilco tour, and watch the new my morning jacket dvd. In short it must be difficult to get so angry about such a small thing, that you can probably wait for. Come on folks, be well, peaceful and happy.
  15. I am sure someones got it, but you probably dont need one. Put your guitar in the tuning and its pretty self explanatory. He does the little hook lick with an open low D and then he slides on the D from the 2nd fret to the 4th. (even explaining it makes it sound less intuitive). Its basically a three chord song until he rocks out with Glenn at the end with D being open, G being everything on the 5th fret, and A everything on the 7th. Play along its fun
  16. wow this new one totally sounds like an old standard, the way 'please tell my brother did'. I can almost imagine Doc Watson doing it or something.
  17. Test this out, but I think its DADF#AE. He saves the E for when he plays the G chord which is everything on the 5th fret. I noticed on sunken treasure he had a really nice high chord when he played that and I think its the fact that the tuning puts a high 9 on top of the major chord.
  18. Can anyone tell us more about this mysterious new song?
  19. I played it dropped D til I saw it on the DVD. Is it DADGAD or some similarly folky tuning?
  20. What I can't help but think of is when he visited Denver. He tried the whole lets see if we can all be quiet together for a half a minute to see what it feels like. There was like fifteen or twenty people that just couldn't handel it. They screamed inane shit every couple seconds. They felt like third graders to me. It was as if theyre scared of being earnest or sincere in absorbing something artistic, or engaging in a moving communal experience. And he gave a similar sermon as what you see on the DVD, but I didn't at all feel like I was being treated as a 3rd grader, because he was adre
  21. Its funny how freaking likeable he is as a fellow and a musician. When there was little glimpses of him before the songs he played came up my girlfriend and I just kept saying "Oh look there's Glenn. Yeah Glenn, I can't wait til he plays."
  22. still so much anger. Or is it playful sarcasm that is occasionally misinterpreted by someone unfamilar with internet harsh jokes?
  23. This is a bit meta, but I cant help but comment that two threads have been closed because they became totally aggressive and no longer interesting or relevant. Are we all that divided on the new material, do we really really need to call each other names? Sure I might have stoked the flames with some absurdist commentary, but what about all that appealing hippie jargon Tweedy's been offering up: voices singing together..... there is a light.... come on yall. Were fans of the greatest band playing rock and roll right now, were lucky. The 9:30 show was stellar, the dvd is gonna be awesome.
  24. you know what would be a lot more fair: cage match. In the loft. Webcast from Wilcoworld.net. You can hit my paypal account for your bets, weve got 2:1 odds for Nels, only because he looks dodgey.
  25. Neil Young has sold so many bad lines, like I can't believe I am singing it, I think Tweedy might pull it off. People are just mean to Jay Bennett cause they dont like him, and his voice isnt as appealing, and he was caught on documentary at probably the most neurotic moment of his life. Poor guy, I'll give his record a listen, he's no slouch, he's no Nels Cline either, but neither are you, or me. Wheres your freakin album? huh? Oh yeah, and that guys not an asshole, I was the one talking about an album from two years ago. He was just explaining how Jay Bennett writes trite lyrics in
