Did that little article seem borderline tabloid? I know for a fact many people have discussed their fears about the new material, or that mental health could detract from the next record (a weird and still controversial subject I wont rekindle) but shit, no one is getting published. Were just on a board talking, it seems kind of harsh. That and it felt like whatever Stiratt said was like a second hand quote delivered with no context. As if John would really go "Oh yeah random paper, I talked to starboy Tweedy the other day, and hes freaked his music is gonna suck. But hey I dont want him

So I was working on some design stuff and I was stuck and I get alot inspiration from the picturebox people cause everything they do is both conceptual and esthetically pleasing (thats a whole nother thread). And I noticed on one of the writing credits (I think Hell is Chrome, but I dont have it in front of me) there is an AGIB song cowritten by Girard. Who is this man or woman and how did they end up contributing to an AGIB song?
-
Allright I got two versions here from about a year apart, to settle it in fairness: the one from phili is a better version, froggie you got a better recording though. Thanks folks, hopefully they do it next time I see em.
-
I'd give it to you, if they were looking for another multi instrumentalist who could do as much, but on guitar alone I don't know if Bennett's quite as strong of a personality. (sorry rehash, Cline/Bennett debate a'la the last year on here)
-
Thats why everyone always says 'We Love You Froggie!' Best Aussie around.

I was about to ask if I was the only one who thought that was the weakest song. Its the only one that made me go "uh oh". But really folks, whether we know what the album will be like, whether we agree, whether its gonna rule, lets not get so scared we treat each other like garbage. Whether you hate or love wilco, I love you VC (except for those who are smug and those that think my least favorite wilco album is the best one)
-
Theres been alot of talk how its a top drawer wilco song that hasn't gotten alotta love live. Seeing as theyve done it recently and I've never heard it in full Cline/Sansone glory I was just wondering if anyone could share it?
-
This song totally rules. Don't yall love seventies rock? But seriously I feel bad that so many VC'ers are already hating an album that hasn't come out, not knowing the songs that will be on it. But on the other side of it, I think alot of the stuff we have been hearing is pretty well established in the studio already, so there might not be all that much more processing before the songs are finalized.
-
Take the blue eyed soul and seventies rock influences prevalent on the new material theyre plaing live and insert the sonic disturbances of YHFT and AGIB, selectively culling from the studio noise freakouts of YHFT and the minimalist live guitar/percussion textures of AGIB.

Ole'! Offensive thread......dont spill your juice, were gonna be alirght.

Hey now, that one guy heard someone yell it at a show he saw five years ago. Here how bout this: Anyone ask for or play 'Don't Fear the Reaper', or 'Freebird' at the last three Wilco shows, the M. Ward shows, or the Beck show. Anyone? How did that make you feel.
-
Thats a great example. I think half of what is so infuriating, and both reaper, and freebird have been victim of it, is that theyre both really good songs. Unfortunately they may have been overused to the point that a classic gets so well worn that it cant be done without a trace of irony. A comedian is clever and attentive and makes a joke out of this irony, and then the joke becomes as common as the song, it preceeds the song. And irony is only funny for a stretch but if everyone jumps on it becomes annoying that we cant hear a great sounding song like 'Dont Fear the Reaper' and all we c

No, I like jokes alot. Maybe thats why I hate when people yell freebird, its like a grown man with a knock knock joke, 'arent ya glad I didn't say bananna.' But a real jerk friend of mine came up with a good heckle for a bad bar band. After they play like three songs and you realize you hate them you say "Hell, yeah. Do two more!"
-
Just a thought for all of you lucky Northerners, Southerners etc. seeing Wilco in OCtober. Is it just me or is shouting Freebird about as obnoxious as a svieg heil (excuse my bad german). If I ever hear someone shout 'play freebird!' in any live music situation I believe I will burn their body and throw their skull in the river. Thoughts? Feelings?
-
The best part is everytime another song starts going: 'oh sweet!' And then as they play so many songs you like you have trouble remembering all the ones you wanted to hear cause they play so many. Its real visceral. Hope they bring the projections back like in 04/05.

Whaddaya guys think, more new song debuts in October tour?
-
In the liner notes to the re-release of the UT March album on "Satan Your Kingdom Must Come Down" he says something about liking the song and not thinking of a traditional satan, but general evil like kids that threw pizza on him in JR. High. My impression is that Tweedy is generally pro-spirituality and anti-zealotry. Not a real denominational type but maybe enjoys gabbin about God on a real long tour bus ride, maybe looking more towards the cosmic and a little less to the punitive God.

think they'll debut any new songs?
-
Well said. I like the Bad Timing disco ball too.

This may be an old thread idea, but did anyone ever notice that on the spine for AGIB between wilco's name and the album name there is the mathmatical symbol for less then or equal to. Do you guys think they were trying to make a statement with that, or is it just a fancy version of a dash. I can't help but think about it as the new album approaches and AGIB is in my top 5 albums I was alive to see released and dissapointment seems entirely possible. Could they in the end be less then or equal to AGIB? I dont mean it in all seriousness but you see where the logic goes.
-
He doesn't use two soundhole pickups which would be weird, but whats really fancy is he uses both an m1 soundhole pickup and some kind of internal/piezo pickup. And get this, he has a custom cable/jack with little volume knobs on it so he can mix the two to taste on all of his guitars! Cant blame a guy for trying to make a plugged in acoustic sound right, cause if youve tried you know its hard.

okay its officially weird. Amazon did pull the preorder and still nothing from Nonesuch.com. Only stuff on it you can google is just the rumor mill on fansites. I know its obviously gonna happen cause its on wilcoworld but why nearly a month from release not much official advertising. Strange strange -
In all due respect. I believe Neil is pointing towards friendships ending and peoples lives changing and allowing it to pass. It seems Jeff is trying to make a statement about artistic creation and anxiety. While both have a sense of triumph overy adversity they seem thematically different. But that is the best Neil Young album that no one talks about enough, his most funky I would say.
