  1. I don't understand. The better takes would be less polished? Its no doubt Wilco can afford high tech recording, but its all analog, pretty much everything after Summerteeth (SBS included) is way more natural sounding to my ears then any other band at their success level, or below it for that matter.
  2. The album was recorded all instruments live, including half the vocals. Same room, no headphones.
  3. Is this based on a concert experience you've had? I saw them the same year Nels joined (is that '04 or '05?) and they were incredibly visceral.
  4. As per the relativism I can't make you feel what I feel when you listen to music, but for me AGIB is easily one of the most emotional albums I've ever heard. I've listened to it at five or six in the morning on every road trip I've done since its come out. It sounds like someone having a really passionate conversation while trying to remind themselves to keep their voice down so they don't wake up the neighbors. Its a crazy tension. I've never heard anything like it.
  5. I love that rehearsing new song look that people get, Jeff displayed it perfectly. As they start to jam into it, he keeps almost stopping to make a suggestion, then telling himself to wait, then likeing something, then almost stopping to suggest something, then remembering to let it develop, and then the song really happens.
  6. For some reason the Minus 5 has a .333 batting average to my taste buds. I compiled one to five songs that seem like solid tunes off each album and ended up with a decent record. Funny enough, the best listen start to finish is At the Organ. One thing that guy can do is keep writing awesome songs and get Jeff Tweedy or Collin Meloy to sing them. I'll keep listening either way, the gems are worth it.
  7. Mean, mean, mean......sometimes the victim of a verbal assault looks like the winner; strange.
  8. Her new album comes out in a couple weeks. I've heard all the leaked tracks and they strengthened my resolve to buy it. Feist has got to be one of the best female vocalists out there. The Reminder has her trademark eclecticism (jazz, r&b, folk, rockin stuff) with maybe a bit more rock guitar than the last. If your at all curious the first single plays immediately when you visit http://www.listentofeist.com/ She'll steal your heart and break it.
  9. this just wont stop. I know one of you somewhere is laughing but hey Head...... welcome to Via Chicago. This is a pointless thread that wont die, if you carefully read the first post it says something about chronological order. People misread and then start to say the ranking in quality. Then people laugh cause theyre weird. Incidentally your ranking is weird (qualitatively, the chronology is known), I don't think I have ever seen it that way.
  10. Can someone tell me how much the guest appearances are actually present on this thing. I am excited he chose to surround himself with talent but no one has commented on the guest appearences.
  11. Ok I acutally listened to the song instead of just being bossy about guitar playing. Sounds like (i didn't have my guitar in hand) just octaves of that line. It could even be a pedal but if you listen close I think theres enough variation to assume its two guitars. But why ponder the guitarmonies of "Wanted" when clearly the most glorious are on "Wreck room"?
  12. That Nels Cline Singers Giants Pin album is my favorite so far. Its so cool to hear him play more rhythm guitar since he is almost constantly playing lead in Wilco. Alot of cool rock riffs that are smarter than the average bear.
  13. 7ths are one of the most important intervals in rock music. Obviously unless you're trying to make some real tension you don't want to put a 7th below the other guitar player's root, but the one above, or even an octave above that is awesome. I agree that 6ths are really cool, I dont use them enough in harmony cause alot of the time they get in the way of the 5th in any chord instruments, but again, take it up enough octaves and it creates the space to avoid any 2nds.
  14. I think this works: http://sand-is-overrated.blogspot.com/2007...s-day-2007.html
  15. Probably a mixture of fifths and thirds. If you know your scales and where to stick the minor and the major thirds you can make delicious guitarmonies.
  16. She's still got it. Really polite crowd, almost boringly quiet at first, but livened up as the night continued. Lots of jokes from Neko and the band about the altitude in Denver. Cant remember the whole setlist (or the proper song names) but heres some of the highlights: Widows Toast (opener) Teenage Feelin Hold On, Hold On Buckets of Rain (Dylan) Favorite Star Witness Knock Loud ((title ?) from Canadian Amp)
  17. It is awesome thankyou. The drumbeat is pretty freakin motorik. I like all these versions, but its easy for me to see how they arrived at AGIB version, it sounds alot braver to me. On this 2003 version you hear him pushing the guitar into the territory it eventually arrived at for the album.
  18. "No one wins but the thieves so why side with anything I should warn you When I
  19. Depends on the song/album. "Girl From the North Country" (original sorry Johnny Cash) underrated. Half of Magical Mystery Tour/Let It Be- overrated. But keep the remaining half and call it still somehow underrated.
  20. See Sup Pop Records for help. If you want to dive in I'd say 'The Great Destroyer' is the most accesable, 'Trust' is a minimalist masterpiece, I still need to get to know the new one but I hear good things.
  21. It is awesome in that it has nothing to do with being "good". They are paying tribute to vintage "bad" movies with swamp mosters, pointless nudity and fake blood.
  22. Wait what was the band they referenced when they said they disliked this version. Was it that they though it sounded too much like U2?
  23. Might be a little too long. Requires too much patience for the hook.
