  1. I've finally gotten the new one. Gotta say, so far it's kind of B minus to me. Totally pleasant, kind of on the Brian Eno tip at times, just not as thrilling as all of the other releases I've picked up from them.
  2. To try an be very open minded: Some moderates have suggested that part of the progress (and then only part) in N Korea has been the way Kim responded to an atypical, grandstanding American figure. If there can ever be anything approaching a "Trump Doctrine" it would be an effectiveness to communicating to tyrants the way they understand- like a military dictator might. Maybe Iran might give even more ground. I don't actually believe any of that will work, but it's my best "devil's advocate" response.
  3. Crap, didn't know that about Diaz either. I still think he wrote a great book, but I might not go out and buy the next one.
  4. I got the new 33 1/3 series on Jawbreaker "24 Hour Revenge Therapy" and Fugazi "In on the Killtaker". Both have been great. The Jawbreaker one got a little silly with Aristotle quotes, but only slightly pretentious. Jawbreaker was after all a literary band.

  6. That looks really nice! We're looking at visiting both Vancouver, and Victoria/Vancouver Island. So we're kind of thinking of spending a couple nights in a hotel in one place, and closer to a week in an Air BnB in another. As a local, where do you think we'll find more value to the longer stay/exploration?
  7. So much of this Sunday morning shit show demonstrates why limiting ammunition capacity can save lives. https://www.cnn.com/2018/04/22/us/waffle-house-shooting-hero-tennessee/index.html It sounds like the weapon actually malfunctioned, but fewer bullets equals more chances for someone to step in. The dude who wrestled this guy is a god damned hero and deserves something grand because a lot of the people in that Waffle House owe him their lives.
  8. ^ Great song. I hope we get a studio version sometime soon.
  9. I'm not sure if Jeff is cool with people filming him on their phones, so I'll hold off on the link, but for the curious someone posted a youtube of him playing a song called "When You Wake Up to Me" at this gig. A pretty honest sounding, autobiographical lyric in there jumps out: And the people say: "What drugs did you take? Why don't you start taking them again." They're not my friends. And if I was dead, what difference would it ever make to them...."
  10. Whoa, now that's something. I hope it's good!
  11. What's the over/under that he got Cohen's help to settle a sexual harassment case?
  12. No, this is great. You guys are confirming my suspicion that it's a really good idea to visit those parts.
  13. Thinking of spending family time up there this summer and wanted to see if any of you had advice. We have a toddler, we like restaurants, art, parks, hikes, wild animals. We often try to split time between the urban and the natural? Good area to visit? Must do's?
  14. Wow this analysis is definitely on the 'worst case scenario' side for Trump. Granted it is written by smug East coast liberals, but dang: https://www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/michael-cohen-and-the-end-stage-of-the-trump-presidency?mbid=social_facebook
  15. Great questions. There are far too many echoes of our Iraq policy for comfort. * Actually, if this report is to be trusted civilian hardships were hopefully very slim: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-mideast-crisis-syria-assessment/pro-assad-official-says-targeted-bases-were-evacuated-on-russian-warning-idUSKBN1HL07R Thanks Russia?
  16. Yeah, our G8 allies are like 'Good idea, dude! We'll just watch.'
  17. Anybody see the Rockies/Padres had a similar kafufle? Also, anyone else watch No No, the Doc Ellis documentary? For those not familiar, Ellis pitched a no hitter while admittedly very high on LSD. The doc is a great look at the far more anarchic 70's when players were all on speed and pitchers would more frequently hit a batter, sometimes bean them to settle a vendetta. Yesterday's two bench clearing events almost seemed like an effort on the part of MLB to improve ratings and get some butts in seats.
  18. Yeah, I'm not inside baseball enough to follow through for the pay off in 3 years, but I think all of Ryan's playing nice with Trump was a public facade over some very seething hatred. It'll be in a book one day. Paul Ryan is after all a true Republican, I think they're all a little uncomfortable with whatever Trump is.
  19. Sounds like Rosenstein might be next instead. Edit: but I suppose that's just a way to get to Mueller since Rosenstein doesn't seem that psyched about firing him, and he's kind of the only person who can.
  20. Wow, it's been weeks since anyone has posted here, clearly not for lack of news, so I'm assuming it's outrage exhaustion. But good lord, the no-knock raid by the Feds on Trump's lawyer MIchael Cohn is a SPECTACULAR piece of political theater. I can almost guarantee (along with Manafort) it will be staged in a film one day.
  21. My dad and I literally did this same ranking in unison this morning. I love how the Giants suck now, but they'll be a force again some season soon. God damned Dodgers pitching can't be stopped though. Go Rockies!
  22. When are Americans going to realize the simple reality that the only thing that stops a bad guy with a bomb is a good guy with a bomb?
  23. I just saw a bunch of solo dates that were added. I wonder if that's a sign they'll be in conjunction with a new release to support, or just the reverse: nothing is coming out so he's staying sharp and trying to get some late promotion in for the acoustic record. Nothing like a quiet time in the Wilco camp to get me overthinking things.
