Yeah, I clearly am mixing the work from that year up, but I know I've heard and enjoyed all of it more than some more recent efforts. I actually enjoyed 1989, though.
-
Oh yeah, wasn't that the year he put out one million albums?

That's the one with Strawberry Wine right? I always kind of dug when he'd get warbly, especially after he sounded like a perfect dreamboat on Love is Hell singing Oasis.

That's right, because it took Nixon some time to build up to this level of pandemonium. At this rate Trump's Watergate is due for sometime in April.

Note, the Trump team's messaging has been 1) Flynn resigned- Spicer, Conway 2) Flynn was fired by Trump because of eroded trust- Conway 3) Trump thinks Flynn is a really good guy- Trump Meanwhile we know that at least Flynn, and probably Trump and Flynn kept Pence in the dark about a very serious issue. This team does not work. Like, if you actually wanted them to do all of this heinous shit they're promising to do you should be rally angry that they suck at working together.

FYP?

You definitely have pulled up some Brasilero stuff that I never heard of. My friends tipped me to Os Mutantes, Ze, Veloso, Costa, and Gilberto Gil. Which seemed like an entire universe, but then it's crazy to see how much more has come out of that amazing country. It kind of reminds me of Nigeria. You find out about Fela and then it happens that there are a dozen other major artists.

Radical. I love how much of a Tropicalia expert you are. It seems like one can go really deep. I've mostly stuck to the stuff from that revolution period. I did get way into this contemporary Brazilian band Los Hermanos. Don't let the Spanish name fool you, it's all Portuguese. Ventura and 4 are a pretty seamless blend of indie rock and samba.

Same here. His episodes with semi obscure comics are sometimes boring but even those I don't skip because some have been captivating. I love seeing who's on for the week on Monday morning. It's often a nice little surprise. I was pumped to see Ryan Adams. I'm about half way through and it's a really good conversation. I had no idea Ryan was so into skating.

Right? I'm a little too busy to cite my sources properly but I can clearly recall a story last year about increased risk from flights being stacked closer together to both max pilot time, and passengers per day. If you ever wondered why some crap happens to over half the flights you book these days (delays, lost baggage, missed connections, cancelations), it's because of how tight they're running everything to stay profitable and keep airfare low. I can't imagine rolling back regulations is going to help either staff or passengers. It'll probably help CEOs and stock holders though.

He learned from the best. Soon he'll start tweeting and ending a critical tweet with "Sad."

Annnnnd the appeals court rejected Trump's attempt to reinstate the ban. I suppose this has been a bad week for him.

BOOM! In other news Kelly Anne Conway received a so-called "talking to" when she told everyone to go out and buy Ivanka's line of hot pants. This would be a violation of ethics since she is a high-profile public servant and shouldn't be trying to increase profits for a friend's brand.

I agree.

Which is also how you get metropolitan areas like mine where you have pretty solid funding in a fairly well-to-do county with high property values, and therefore good tax revenue. Then cross the street and it's shit, because a more impoverished county has higher educational needs AND lower tax revenue because the property isn't worth much.

And he got the recently reclusive Feist to come out of hiding!

Local control is often for the better, although sometimes it's a Trojan horse for cutting federal funding for programs. I have a more negative response to the rampant idea that public things should be run like businesses. When a business goes down the owners and investors stand to lose, but they chose it. When a public institution goes down people who rely on it get screwed. This doesn't begin to examine the differences in what the measures of success are for each.

In my unprofessional opinion the blind spot on the polls was voter turnout. Sure the wide majority of voters thought that Trump was unqualified, but not enough of them participated. It wasn't fake news, the data was pretty good. It was the spirit of the thing that they misread.

So it appears that the court system is one wheel Mr. Trump cannot grease. I think our friends in the judiciary branch could have a drink with certain Australian and Mexican officials. They have a lot to share.
-
I'm sorry, but all I can say is I would be so fucking pissed off if we went to war with Mexico. Unthinkable. Ugh....

Yes! Bring this line of questioning because it's the only way the left is going to conjure a winner who can actually help people. It's easy to forget that what you're questioning here is very important, while the 70 year old toddler throws an executive fit. I think someone smart could write a book to answer these questions. I'll try a few things: One- complacence. A certain cross section of liberals actually are coastal elites, they care about people but aren't always connected to their realities. Or to spin the lens around, maybe some are like me- middle class (a dying breed), in an econo

Perfect! I was just thinking about Treason a couple days ago. I haven't listened to these guys for a couple years now. I'm going to correct that asap. Husker Du It's Not Funny Anymore Chartered Trips I Apologize New Day Rising Something I Learned Today

My students haven't really been talking about it. It could be a number of political, parenting or unrelated, circumstantial stuff. I kind of want to initiate to see where they stand, but it could be a minefield. That and 4th and 5th graders tend to echo their parents slogans without really getting any nuance.... which makes them like many Americans.

Whoa. Proud of the Tweedy's for stepping out and representing, and not getting swept up in a cloud of ignorant hatred. Public death threats to strangers in passing...... these are strange days.

So many of his supporters know that it's a shit show. They're really insecure for having "won" the white house a month ago. It's just a question of how far he has to go for them to admit it's all a big mistake.
