  1. Desert Storm, Clinton inauguration, OJ Simpson fleeing in a Bronco. Getting progressively clearer as the list progresses.
  2. And even then wouldn't it be the shortest time between Wilco records ever?
  3. Whoa, missed that! I remember her moderate position of improved assistance. That one was either plain dumb, or more free publicity.
  4. Email server! Classified! All must burn! (that's about it this week in the political dialog)
  5. And you get Sleater Kinney being very Portlandia. Great video.
  6. Their few published comments about it seem to suggest that it is exactly that.
  7. Assuming that it's 100% finished (if not we'll really have to hold our horses) we have to assume that they have some reason for delaying its release. As much as I'm dying to crack open another new Wilco record, I'm thinking they're going to hold onto it until they complete these tours in order to give Star Wars its due. That might mean we're waiting until this winter. But then again, who knows?
  8. Man, Benghazi. Every time the GOP dug in again it went further from where they hoped they'd land politically.
  9. I recently analyzed voting data from the U.S. for a stats class I'm taking. In 2014 some 80% of "greatest generation" folks turned out the vote while participation amongst millenials was in the 20-30 range. I know the "rock the vote" mantra is getting cliche but we'll be living in a different political world if the youngest voters will engage.
  10. The whole demographic/voting thing makes me wonder. In the U.S. our congressional seats are dictated by counties, and with more and more young and liberal people congregating in cities it is pretty much a demographic guarantee that rural, and medium density population districts will retain their conservative congressional representation while the urban will not magically be granted more. It's no surprise that the rural English and the metropolitan English don't always see eye to eye.
  11. If this goes the way experts have predicted, I wonder how long it will be before they try to get back in. As an American of Scotch/English descent, a consumer of BBC news and something of an anglophile it is often far too easy to unthinkingly trust that the UK will tend towards being dependably reasonable all the time. This ignores the fact that their society has the same proportionate cross section of lunatics and dimwits that ours does. Ya ken? I heard some notion that the Scottish independence movement may try to exit the UK and reenter the EU.
  12. Right? Him and John are all "out of my cold dead hands." They were probably not around when it was signed.
  13. Bill Maher is a smug prick. He may be factually correct more often than Limbaugh, but he's almost as pointlessly crude and disrespectful towards people.
  14. Yeah, it seemed to be more of an iteration of the old: Right says, "You're all so PC you can't say Muslim when you're talking about terrorists," and Left says, "Yeah, we can, but Muslim isn't the point, there are 1.7 billion followers of the faith and the overwhelming majority are peaceful people." If you want to play "Freebird" I can ask the gun enthusiasts if they feel they're the victims of tyranny since they've lost their right to carry box cutters on a plane, but then again that conversation seldom goes anywhere new.
  15. It depends on what you mean by "these guys". If these guys are the people who shoot up planned parenthood or gay night clubs because they're armed religious fanatics, I'll say you're right they're terrorists. What I won't do is lump all Christians or Muslims into one category or tolerate a candidate who attempts to do so.
  16. http://www.cc.com/video-clips/kb2x61/the-daily-show-with-trevor-noah-advice-for-hillary-clinton "Oh no she has a shrill voice, it hurts my man ears."
  17. Someone explained this in another thread a year or two ago but I'm not smart enough to find it. I want to say it was a publishing issue as they were parting with Nonesuch. Perhaps one of the reasons the rarities box was cheekily titled Alpha Mike Foxtrot.
  18. Yeah, he busted some rhymes there, (I especially like Elevator Music) but that always felt like some weirdo alt hip hop. Something about the beat and production "It's like wow...". It seems like he's trying to make Kanye jealous.
  19. That song is sooooo hip hop to me. It's like he wondered "How hip hop can a blonde 45 year old get?". This song answered the question.
  20. Trump's selling point, right here: "There was a time when offhand remarks could be made by just about any straight white man with a little money. Now you have all these "types" "throwing it in your face" and if you call it like you see it then they jump down your throat, the media might skewer you, you can even get fired. Now here comes a guy who's tired of having to watch what you say." Sure this is a caricature, but my father in law is a nice man who wishes no harm to any particular individual, but as far as I can tell this is how he feels. Some folks are tired of feeling ashamed for re
  21. Have you heard what he said? Do you remember what Obama was saying?
  22. I've never had the chance to see them do the whole SW album live. I'd love to see it. I think they figure there are a lot of people like me out there. The average person, even a big fan, doesn't see them three times a year.
