  1. When I saw him with the Cardinals in Seattle a couple years ago, "This is It" was easily among the highlights of an extremely good show. I'd love to hear Cardinals arrangements on some of the other RNR songs as well.
  2. I've also been meaning to add this since I bought a car a few weeks ago, but Rock N Roll is one of the greatest driving albums ever recorded. Like many others, I've been trashing the disc for years, but when you just tune out and let it get its hooks into you, it's pretty fantastic. Also, as an added bonus, "Wish You Were Here" is a guaranteed laugh out loud.
  3. Thank you, Zen master. I'm also sick of this debate. It's a genre name, a classification. It's what we study when we're not studying fiction or poetry or drama.
  4. I think this is correct. I just completed a five-year writing degree where my focus was creative nonfiction, and I couldn't be more tired of hearing people debate about this one fucking book.
  5. Just a guess, but I'd imagine that has something to do with their aforementioned lack of funds? I'll be sad to see it go.
  6. Well, they combined for 11 points in 6 games, which is right in line with their regular season average. I vehemently disagree with Canucks fans who want them gone next year, considering it'd be near-impossible to replace their production with any of the FA's out there... especially given the Canucks' track record when it comes to signing free agents. They showed up in the playoffs this year, which is about the only thing they had left to do to prove themselves to me. Hell, I'd give them lifetime contracts if that's what they want. Anyway, I'm pretty bummed as well, but almost no one in the p
  7. I bought that album a couple weeks ago having only ever heard Rainy Day Music... Needless to say, it's fantastic.
  8. Canucks executed Vigneault's plan almost to a tee tonight, and they just about made it to the finish line with a victory. Sadly, all it took was one late goal to tie, and the game's tempo totally shifted. Boiled down, I'm happy taking one of two in Chicago.
  9. Even as a Canucks fan, I can see where you're coming from. No team in the playoffs is built to beat the Wings quite like the Ducks are -- they're huge, aggressive, experienced, and riding a hot goalie. Another team might have better luck countering that physicality, but I don't think anyone wants to play the Ducks right now. Similarly, if the Wings do advance, I think only the Bruins and Canucks are aggressive and strong enough on defense to give Detroit a run for their money.
  10. God, I remember that. One of the funniest things I've seen in my life. Pitchfork has flaws just like any other media outlet -- they just happen to be very, very particular ones. Not all of what they try works -- a lot of it bothers me, like it does many of you -- but I check their site at least once a day and consider it among my very favourite music news sources.
  11. All I got the first time I read this post.
  12. I interviewed him over the phone last spring, and he's one of the most genuine, appreciative, kind people I've ever talked to. After I'd finished my questions, I asked him a pretty specific one about a mystery song he'd played here at a show 4 years ago, which I enjoyed, and it was like that was the wildest thing he'd heard in his life. He kept thanking me and telling me I should come say hi after the upcoming show, which I did, and he remembered our chat, and at the end of the conversation he shook my hand and hugged me. He's also of course a tremendous songwriter. P.S. And he said he's w
  13. Yup, that third period scared the bejesus out of me, but ultimately I'm considering it a blessing. After seeing how quickly a big lead can evaporate, hopefully the team doesn't get complacent for the rest of the playoffs. Assuming he's not suspended more than a game for the hit on Rypper, I have a feeling Ben Eager is gonna establish himself as public enemy #1 in Vancouver by the end of the series... though I thought he was the Hawks' most effective skater and seemed like a guy I'd love to have on the team (Hordichuk could learn a thing or two). Also, how about Kyle Wellwood? Guy continues t
  14. I'm not sure that's correct, actually. I think the term "acronym" can be applied in both cases, and many others as well. "NAACP" is even a tricky-ish one, since you don't just say the letters -- there's a "double A" in there.
  15. Give me your phone number and I will sing it to you in a husky voice.
  16. ??? Gillis didn't even offer him a contract, did he?
  17. Haha, oh man, that looks nothing like McNabb... very awkward.
  18. Datsyuk's winning it running away, I guarantee. (Though you can't spell "Kesler" without "Selke"...)
  19. Listened to 'Faithless Street' by Whiskeytown on the bus to work today... God I love that album. I have no idea how to discern "good" pedal steel from "bad," but it's all over that record and it all sounds great to me.
  20. He's among a number of guys I'd be immediately excited to see a Packer... His upside is obviously off the charts, and if Ted Thompson feels okay enough about his character to draft him (he was at Alabama's pro day), that's enough for me. Plus he could start immediately at right tackle and learn a thing or two from Clifton before taking over (Oher would be the same case). I change my mind every hour, but right now I'm hoping for one of Raji, Smith, Oher or a trade-down... though Tyson Jackson, Orakpo, Curry, Malcolm Jenkins... any of those guys would be great adds as well.
  21. 2005 comes to mind, but you're right, no one's taking that Lions pick. As a Packers fan sitting at #9, I don't know that we'd even do a straight up #1-for-#9 swap.
  22. This is my exact routine as well.
  23. This is incredibly sad. He is making me feel sad.
