  1. You are correct, sir. Hey, Happy Birthday to William "Randolph" Kreutzmann!
  2. I have my wish list. A 30 year Anniversary of Summer '85 would be nice! Yeah, it's just in between average to above average versions of regular rotation tunes. For my money the 9/20 2nd set is the highlight of the run.
  3. I Come & Stand & 5D are great calls. I'd throw in Mind Gardens cause I love David and it's trippy as hell.
  4. Hey, if anyone gets the word on when the next box is coming out, please post it up asap. I'm not seeing anything yet.
  5. In my experience there are very few shows from ANY era where the band is totally ON the whole night. '77 probably comes closest, and that's not even my favorite year. Once you involve yourself in this thing it's very much like panning for gold - in some shows there's a set, or a string of songs, or a song, or even just a piece of a song - maybe just a minute or a few seconds(!) where you hear and it go, "DAMN, that's IT!" That's what makes this what it is for me. Here's an example:I was listening to 9/18/90 MSG the other day. It was ok, certainly nice enough. Then To Lay Me Down comes on, an
  6. Yeah, I remember that Sugaree: standing on a muddy slope, soaked to the bone. The Big Guy belts out, "Ya know in spite of all you've gained you still gotta stand out in the pouring rain". REAL funny, Garcia. A funny , very memorable moment for me.
  7. That 1st LP could be my whole list. I've listened to that record since I was about 9-10 years old (it was one of my Dad's records my hippie Uncle turned him on to) and it still gets aired out a few times a year.IMO one of the really good debut LPs.
  8. Damn that's pretty spot on. I'd substitute Kid for Up The Neck, but other than that you have my list.
  9. Hey, it doesn't matter, really. I don't care what the lineup is, but I've seen a million P&F lineups. My dream lineup would be, Phil, Bobby, Mickey, Bill, Barry Sless (on guitar & pedal steel for appropriate tunes), Bruce, and Mike Finnegan on organ. And Donna. Yes I said it, DONNA JEAN.
  10. Oh LORD Echoes might be my favorite song of all time! Followed by: Saucerful of Secrets Set The Controls for the Heart of the Sun Careful With That Axe, Eugene Astronomy Domine But since this is too hard: Cymbaline One of These Days Mudmen Time Fat Old Sun
  11. Elizabeth Reed is THE ONE, for me. All the rest come after. Jessica Whipping Post Mountain Jam Blue Sky
  12. Stones Can't You Hear Me Knockin Monkey Man Sympathy for the Devil Jumpin Jack Flash It's Only Rock & Roll
  13. Nice list. I'd substitute Timber Ho for Circus, but Circus is damn fine in its own right.
  14. Zeppelin Dazed & Confused The Song Remains The Same In My Time of Dying Achilles Last Stand Nobody's Fault But Mine
  15. Phish David Bowie Split Open & Melt Reba Harry Hood Divided Sky
  16. I actually saw an online petition to get Healy behind the board yesterday. Slim chance.
  17. Christ. Phil & Steve just need to kiss and make up. 16 years is a long fucking time to hold a grudge.
  18. That 3 night run should be a box set imho. SO much good stuff! The Viola Lee encore on 4/21 is as ragged as it gets, I wouldn't even say it's good, but MAN it sounds like everyone took an adult dose that night! For my money the Dark Star from 4/22 is my favorite from all of Spring '69, and as LC said The Eleven is spot on. The last night! It's such an embarrassment of riches it's just ridiculous. Go look at the setlist. It is INSANE.
  19. I think the part I enjoy most about that song is Phil and Brent trading verses and harmonizing on the choruses, if you can believe that! For some reason those two seem to work pretty well together vocally, and Phil singing is not normally something that's pleasant to listen to LOL. I've often wondered if it wasn't Phil's idea to bust that one out. This was at the time him and Jill were still in a "new love" phase (around 3 years), and there are lines ("you walked right into my life", etc.) that seem to be him singing to her.
  20. Now how can I turned down an offer like that? :-)
  21. I loved this post. Well done. I live 40 minutes north of Indy. I haven't missed a show there in 13 years, and there's been plenty of others in the surrounding area (Cincinnati, Louisville, Bloomington, Lafayette, etc.). Am I pissed about this? Absolutely not. I'm proud that this band took a stand. BTW - The Iroquois Amphitheater (next night's show on the itinerary) is an absolutely gorgeous venue, my favorite smaller-sized outdoor venue in the Midwest. See you there. :-)
