  1. Definitely one of my favorite things, too. Along with that riff that showed up occasionally (especially '70-'71) in some Dark Stars that I guess we would call the "Tighten Up" jam. It bears a strong resemblance to the Archie Bell & the Drells' song "Tighten Up".
  2. Holy shit! I was just listening to 8/6/71 (10 weeks before Godchaux joined) and in the transition from Me & My Uncle back into The Other One THERE IT IS, even more pronounced than the 12/1 snippet. I think you're talking about "Feelin' Groovy". A little descending riff.
  3. Just dropping in to say WHOA that 9/3/72 Other One is a MONSTER. Hadn't listened to it in maybe 10 years.
  4. I really need to do that as well, Aman. I don't have the ND mags, but DAMN there's probably enough Dead music and books and memorabilia to last someone a lifetime. My kids don't really care about that stuff. I've thought about seeing if the local library would like a donation. I'd want the music to live on to future generations.
  5. I seriously doubt that Rosie would get rid of 'em. She would LOVE reading them cover to cover!
  6. Happy 75th to THE MAN. Let's take the day to give our best wishes to Phil, and maybe tell of our favorite Phil moments, either in person or on tape.
  7. I know everyone will expect me to say this but you need ALL of 'em. 2/24 (latest Dave's), 3/23 (1st Wall show), 5/14 (Dave's #9), 6/16 & 18 (RT), 6/26 &28 (Dick's #12), 7/31 (Dave's #2), 8/4,5&6 (Dick's #31), 9/10&11 (Dick's #7) & the Movie soundtrack (Oct). Off the top of my head I think that's it.
  8. It isn't followed by TOO, but try on the 11/2/69 Dark Star for size! That one, and 4/22 are my favorites from that year. Other than the obvious, "just exactly perfect" 2/27 Live Dead version. The 80s page has been so insufferable for the last month that I've been reduced to telling people to STFU all the time. It's sad over there, folks. The thing is, for as long as I can remember GDTS only got about 25% of the tickets anyway. They were lucky to get ANY. Ticketmaster is like the IRS - you just cannot get around 'em.
  9. There were a number of bits & pieces of Slipknot in some of those Summer '74 jams.
  10. Yes. I just listened to that show earlier this week and it's definitely there for just a second or two. Not enough to label it as such but I heard it. And I'm glad you brought that show up - that Other One has Phil at his very best. He gets WAAAAY out there. Everybody in this thread go and listen! It's amazing stuff!
  11. Since it's just 3 shows (supposedly the last ones ever) I guess it's not that big of a deal. If they were doing a tour I'd be a little peeved.
  12. Thanks! I don't think I've ever heard that sequence. Better head over to Archive. High praise, indeed! Good call.
  13. That 8/24 show has one of my very favorite Dark Star > Morning Dew combos. The Star is unique to my ears in that Keith works the Rhodes in a manner that suggests Chick Corea early RTF-Era, or maybe Zawinul early Weather Report Era. VERY jazzy.
  14. Hell yeah! Rush in '77? Awesome. I didn't see them until '78.
  15. Not me. I don't even go to a movie theater to see movies! I know Steve Silberman likes JRAD quite a bit, and he has a good set of ears.
  16. The thing I'll always remember that never happened was when Chrissie Hynde gave me a backstage pass. We got to be alone for a few minutes, and she delivered one helluva spankin' to me while she made me sing "private life drama, baby, leave me out" over and over. I wasn't allowed to sing the word "STOP". What a woman.
  17. Well...my first concert was KISS with Bob Seger & Silver Bullet opening, 8/2/76. I'm not sure what Seger opened with, it might very well have been Nutbush City Limits. KISS opened with Detroit Rock City. That's a pretty damn fine song to open a show with.
  18. It's not really fair to compare almost anything to the Creamery Benefit show. That's a Top 10 show on anyone's list! I knew what I was getting into with this show, cause I had it on cassette around '89-'90. It IS good, but they've released many other '74 shows I thought were better. For my money June is the peak of that year - Des Moines, Louisville, Miami, Providence, Boston - MY GOD that's some awesome shit. Get it for the Dark Star > Dew, and the Playin. Is it just me, or does that Playin have more in common with Fall '72 than Fall '73? It seems more frenetic, less jazzy.
  19. The last 72 hours on FB has just been exhausting. I'm ready to shut off all my GD-related pages for a bit. The trolling even seeped into the DNB page. JEEZ. I'm a bit surprised at how little I care about this reunion thing. But I've been to Soldier in July, and lemme tell ya it ain't the Garden of Fucking Eden that's for sure. If it was Deer Creek, or even Alpine I might give it more consideration. A couch tour, with cold microbrews, air conditioning, and a clean bathroom 20 feet away sounds like something I'll be doing, if available. The Trey bashing is getting a bit much. Hey, we all hav
  20. Just my opinion, but if they think they could still play Soldier Field they are REALLY overestimating their popularity at this point. I don't care who is showing up to play guitar that place would be lucky to be half full.
