  1. I guess not everyone wants or needs to meet others face-to-face while taking the same class. I've learned how to effectively collaborate with others via my computer just as I will need to as an educational administrator. We've done long and complex papers together. It's merely another means of collaborating. I've "networked" with some folks, too, as I've gotten to know them throughout the two-year program. Honestly, though, I'm not looking to form bonds, just looking for my degree.
  2. Sounds like a specific case of ineptitude on the part of a particular professor/school. I don't understand the wanting to get together with a study group point, though. The on-line classes generally cover the nation.... Technology can be a hinderance and an enhancement depending on how it's used, I guess could sum that up. Either way, we've strayed from the focus....
  3. My experience has been great. In traditional grad classes you are placed in a group for collboration (in education, at least) without a choice. No different on-line. You meet your peers through a cyber cafe. You respond to eachother in real time (or as close as possible). The program I went through was/is very well run with resources, collaborative communities, easy access to professors (phone numbers, too!), etc. Networking can easily be done through never meeting face-to-face, too. I guess it depends on the school/program. Plenty of colleges now have virtual classrooms where physical b
  4. Not sure why the debate on technology. It's a great tool and can have a vast amount of educational value. I'm in the last class of an M.A. ed.program done all on-line and never once meeting a peer, teacher, advisor, etc. face-to-face. I'm ok with this. Texting/passing notes? Kids still pass notes and cell pohones are confiscated if they are caught being used during classroom time. Not a big deal, really. Kids aren't less functional because of technology. If anything, they are more prone to adapt to the technology world than any generation prior to them as the'y are now born into it. Tech
  5. What about small class sizes? Which country do you live in, amigo?
  6. I agree with giving more control/autonomy to a localized educational system. Problem is that the big money comes from federal funding. How to raise money locally/state-wide without becomes an issue. One of the main gidsts of NCLB is the over-used "accountability" issue. At it's core, standardized testing/accountability, I have no issue with that part of NCLB. I take issue with tying funds into it, though, and casting the onus entirely upon individual schools based solely on the test score results. There needs to be accountability at a lot of levels, not just the individual school score results
  7. HA! Talking to a buddy this morning about the FOTD and how it was what hooked him on the GD. Garcia's playing on that version is craftwork.
  8. Listened to Dead Set for the first time in a spell this morning. I always thought it had a great vibes, even though it's pieced together and not a continuous show. the sound was always very warm, to me. The re-mastered version (that I listened to this morning) is even better, obviously. The "Fire" out of Space always sparks up my day.
  9. When they appeared in '89 they supposedly played Mighty Quinn, Hideaway, and Good Lovin' during the breaks. Not sure about the '87 appearance. Letterman '82 they did Deep Elem and Monkey & Engineer....
  10. There's the Cuban Jose Iglesias, as well...
  11. I've got a few shows with CR and P&F too and always appreciate the vocals he brings. Fall '04/winter '05 he did a bunch of shows with them. Also, guys from Railroad Earth, Particle, Galactic sitting in (they were openers for some shows, too). There are some nice shows with some mandolin/fiddle from the RRE fellas, in particular.
  12. There are some decent youtube clips of the show and nice pics on philzone....
  13. I didn't go so far as making notes on the shows but the tape covers look about right....
  14. I still associate some tunes/shows with specific writings/designs on my tapes. All in huge tupperware boxes at this point....
  15. Steinbrenner owns a good percent of YES that broadcasts to around 10 million and nets around 250 million per year. NESN is majority-owned by the Red Sox and also has a lot of subscribers. These cable network shares in huge markets help fund payroll. Advertising and subscriptions add a nice chunk to both BOS and NYY incoming money. Sales/fan support do go a long way, too. The NYY are the most widely-recognized logo/sales item in all of sports. High ticket prices allowed by fan support helps, too. This is nothing you don't know. I think a good part of it basically stems from fan supprt and allow
  16. True. And the payroll zone proponents would say that floor would have to be substantial for the the player's union to even consider anything close to a cap.
  17. MLB has neither. There is the luxury tax, though, that goes to the league. The NYY basically fund the entire thing. I think a floor is needed if there's to be a cap, though. I've heard it referred to as a payroll zone, rather than a cap, where teams have to spend within the zone. It'd pull the bottomfeeders /teams who don't spend/fans don't care about them up a bit and put a clamp on the teams that aren't afraid to spend and who's fans support them.
  18. Salary or payroll? Why should baseball have a salary cap? Just like to hear people's reasoning.... I don't like the concept of a floating alignment, either. What a mess.
  19. Went to Houston and Dallas GD shows in '88 and remember walking on eggshells a lot of the time..... Don't people put a lot of the DP/RT/Vault official releases up on bt sites? I realize it's illegal, but it sems I've gotten almost all the official release stuff from people who got it that way.....
  20. After catching the two Broomfield, CO shows this weekend I'll back you on this. The shows exceeded my expectations by far. Amazing selection of tunes, flawless playing, intimate atmosphere, high spirits on stage and in crowd, and the played the hell out of the tunes. John isn't a fake Jerry, he's John. He knows the music and does it justice in his own way. He seems more comfortable in the band then he did in September. Joe Russo is an amazing drummer, too. The chicks added a lot to the mix, as well. Here's hoping for a few more shows around here this summer. Amazing.
  21. Phish doing Telluride in early August, 2 nights.
  22. Try the venue, too, closer to the show or day of. They re-release tix (often) that people cancel at last minute....
  23. Small venue, I presume? Try craigslist before resorting to a d-bag.
