  1. Assuming the leak is valid in it's claims, I'm not shocked, I'm disappointed. Particularly because Ortiz was pretty vehement in the punishment that should be dealt out to players caught using PEDs/HGH. I believe he was all for a 1 year ban.

  3. I'll be there Fri. and Sat. and possibly Sun. The chick might be able to pick up a couple tix in the lot....
  4. Bummer you don't still have it. There's a used copy on Amazon for $75! It's the 1972 rather than the 1959 "1st edition," too....
  5. Yeah, Visions of Cody is definitely on my list....
  6. Red Rocks tix are still just as scarce and still going for around $200+/night when I do see them pop up. Gonna be a scene.
  7. http://www.boston.co...ox_trade_f.html ? Halladay trade notes. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ys-tradebuzz072809&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
  8. This is my first read of it. I don't know why I never got around to reading it before, but here I am. I've got a compilation book that covers On the Road, The Dharma Bums, and The Subterraneans and a very detailed introduction about the stories, his life, his relationship with the press, etc.
  9. I like games. There was a guy over on dead.net that used to host a "Name That Tune" type deal where he'd play a snippet of the intro of a tune. That's my kind of game.
  10. The bloody sock game is but one of (I think) 15 post-season games that he's become known for performing exceptionally in, though. His wins and win pct. rank highly, as well....
  11. Rice is underrated if he doesn't make the Hall and overrated if he does. That's a lose/lose for the guy. I sat on the fence about rice, too (as many did/do). he was a borderline candidate but I won't complain about his admission into the HOF. Why is Schilling's game 6 ALCS bloody sock effort and victory overrated? The man had a tendon stitched to ankle skin in order to pitch in a "must-win" game and performed his job exceptionally under the circumstances. I'd say that's rated....
  12. Yeah, I agree with this. Every year there will be guys left off that probably should be on and guys that are on that probably are less deserving than another guy who was left off. There's that human element about the process that is in tune with the sport, in general, being subject to human error that agrees with me, though.
  13. What's your preferred way? I like the voting (fans, players, managers all have a say) but don't like the pity (every team needs to be represented) selections.
  14. He certainly did earn it but he also certainly lost the privelage to be considered due to his subsequent actions. The onus is on Rose, not the HOF.
  15. “Any player, umpire or club or league official or employee, who shall bet any sum whatsoever upon any baseball game in connection with which the bettor has no duty to perform, shall be declared ineligible for one (1) year. Any player, umpire or club or league official or employee, who shall bet any sum whatsoever upon any baseball game in connection with which the bettor has a duty to perform shall be declared permanently ineligible." Not sure where the gray area is. The HoF (and baseball, for that matter) owes nothing to Rose.
  16. Dr. Jack Kevorkian has a nice ring to it.
  17. I don't mind these discussions at all and find merit in them but they apparently annoy some folks. I'd be glad to talk this stuff (history, HoF, steroids, etc.) in a break-out thread. I bet a few others wouldn't mind, either.
  18. Rose, Bonds, etc. are recognized, though. They are in the record books. Nobody is denying them the acknowledgment of what was done on the field (and in people like Bonds' case that's a shame, imo). Just because they aren't (or most likely won't be) in the HoF doesn't mean what they did on the field is ignored. I don't buy the argument that just because other douchebags are in more douchebags should be allowed in. What other guy who bet on the game is in? What other guy who used steroids is in? This ultimately comes down to one side seeing no distinction between cheating, regardless of the le
  19. If it's inter-league play the AL will still have the edge, though. At least with recent past considered.
  20. Well, that's the reason. The rule he broke is worse than the "rule" Perry broke. It's that simple. Not to mention the fact that Rose accepted a lifetime ban. Agreed to it. Signed on the dotted line and all. The man deserves everything that he's got.
  21. Mariners take the hit on that one....
