  1. Debating whether or not he belongs to be in becomes somewhat insipid now that he's in, imo. It does not mean debate has to stop but it is a bit futile now that he's been elected in. There are people you think should be in (Mcgwire, for example) that those "other things" that are taken in to consideration will almost certainly dictate that he is not HOF-worthy. There certainly are players who are not in that probably should be and players that are in that probably should not be. Regardless, they are/are not in due to the voters and their own opinions which, in the end, are all that matter.
  2. Whether you think the "other things" should be secondary or not is irrelevant, though. I agree Rice was a borderline candidate for eligibility but the writers believe he is. That works for me and I have no legitimate gripe that he's anything but a HOF-er, now.
  3. Interesting exchange between Jason Stark and Peter Gammons re: Tim Raines' HOF-worthiness. Rice comes up in comparison to Raines early in the exchange...: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/hof08/news/story?id=3169953 Gammons: "My problem is that he (Raines) never finished higher than fifth in the MVP balloting. Bill Madden always used to say he'd check the boldface print in Baseball Encyclopedia as a player's criteria. Today, we check what Baseball Reference calls black lines -- league leaders -- and Raines had 20 black lines, as opposed to Jim Rice's 33. He led the league in batting average
  4. HOF voting criteria: "Voting shall be based upon the player's record, playing ability, integrity, sportsmanship, character, and contributions to the team(s) on which the player played." If numbers are the only thing that matter to you then you miss the point of the voting process. Rice deserves to be in and it has nothing to do with whether Blyleven deserves to be in or not.
  5. Chris is a nice cat. Very friendly/humble. Realizes the sideways "success,'"too. Just trying to play/sing some melodic tunes. I like your take on things, Zero. Good input.
  6. No skin off your back either way though, eh? And for all intents and purposes...they did.
  7. I'm right there with you, Zero.... That Chris guy is a good cat, to boot.
  8. When Dylan was playing with the Dead they covered "Joey" with Garcia singing. It was delightful and humorous and actually kind of nice all in one.
  9. Another nice BOS signing: reliever Takashi Saito: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/9058832...reliever-Saito-
  10. Were/are Garcia Band tapes kept in the vault, though? I wonder if there is a separate storage for his Band/solo stuff as it isn't part of GDP....
  11. I just like froggie, if that's o.k.
  12. She absolutely should. Except "those people" would then get a cut of the dough she needs to make movies.
  13. Good lord that woman annoys me. They couldn't play on Saturday nights?
  14. This is certainly up there for me. I never tire of it and it speaks to me.
  15. "Once in a Lifetime"- Talking Heads
  16. I don't mind that tune too much. A bit overplayed, I suppose. I liked some of their stuff. Hm mmm....
  17. If we're now putting songs in their respective graves can we include Ronin Tynan's version of "God Bless America?" I want to swallow batteries every time I hear it.
  18. "Everyday People" Sly & The Family Stone
  19. Will you be purchasing the same pair of slacks/dress pants to match the socks in bulk quantity, as well?
