  1. If it's the Jay Blakesberg, Between the Dark and Light, it's an excellent book. The stories behind the pics are fun, and the photography outstanding. IIRC, Phil does the intro for it (Blakesberg is Phil's "official" photographer). A very well put-together coffee table book.
  2. The Parish book is decent. I liked the Phil one, too. I've read most of the Dead-related books and it's interesting to get the different takes on particular events. If you enjoy reading first-hand accounts of the Dead and their extended Family check out Parish's site, RoadieRadio.com- it's chock-full of interviews and other assorted neat items (you need to register to log in....free).
  3. He was in Denver Tues. night (had to dump my tix last minute to watch the kids) and he got a very good review from a local music critic who's opinion I respect. His only "gripe" was that the show was relatively short. He apparently did "Joey," a song I dig a bunch. The reviewer made it seem as if Dylan doesn't do this one much these days and said it seemed a lot of folks in the crowd did not expect it/know. Apparently, the tunes that got the most response from the crowd were 3 tracks off the new album.
  4. I'm not familiar with the song, but it's one of my favorite Poe poems. A very sad poem involving a sailor and his maiden. Is it a take on the poem?
  5. I scored "A Classic Novel." It didn't tell me which one, though. I'm thinking Moby Dick. I actually thought the quiz was going to tell me which author my responses resembled. I was holding out for Rimbaud.
  6. Wow, really? I guess I haven't watched the EmptyV in a looooong time. Are these videos any good?
  7. How about a "Greatest Juggler" thread? Those always spark great debate.
  8. "Old Blue" is a traditional (as far as I remember, though it may be credited to a particular person (s)) that's a fantastic song. It has little variations that make it unique to each person covering it, but it retains the same old message of an elegy, of sorts, to a favorite dead dog. I know Ton Russell, The Byrds, JJCale, and a bunch of others have covered it. My favorite version is on the recent Ramblin' Jack Elliot disc, I Stand Alone (which is a fantastic album, all around). I had an old dog, and his name was Blue Bet your life he was a good dog too Blue chased a possum up a hollow li
  9. Actually, I mistyped. I was thinking J. Nash but typed J. Cliff. Nash, I believe, actually wrote it (the mid-70s version is the one that I'm referencing, anyway). Jimmy Cliff recorded the tune in the late 80s/early 90s, though.
  10. The first one that always springs to mind for me is: "I Can See Clearly Now," by Jimmy Cliff. It never fails to make me feel good.
  11. Glenn is a fantastic drummer/percussionist, for sure. I'm not going to touch the subject of "best" as that's best left to individual ears. I did see Steve Perkins last Friday, whom I've always strongly admired, and will see these cats this Friday: I agree that Glenn is a perfect fit for Wilco, though.
  12. That's the new way to say "style," actually. And I didn't have time to write the number out the whole way.
  13. %$#@&!!(&^ - you for thinking you're better than me. Everybody knows polls went out of styles 9 years ago!!!
  14. I'm all twilliterate. Or something.
  15. I think it's an excellent tune and always vrought the weirdness out at the shows. I'm a little surprised to hear Paul B.'s comments about Jay Lane. He's actually the only other original member of Ratdog besides Weir (also a founding member of Primus). I've always thought he held down the beats pretty well. Maybe it was an off night for him (or maybe you just don't dig him....either way).
  16. I've seen Kimock about a dozen times in various bands, most recently a few months ago with Stephen Perkins' band, Banyan (saw Banyan again Friday night, as well, and got to chat up Mike Watt between sets backstage). He has a reputation as being difficult to work with. I've met him a few times and he seemed like a decent guy, but folks I know who have worked with him say he can be pretty ornery. The Phil Lesh thing supposedly had a lot to do with SK and Phil's wife from a professional standpoint.... Alas, his guitar playing is commendable. While it tends to be a little over-the-top for my pe

  19. I'm Granfather Claused on this one here. Merry Christmas, y'all.
