  1. Recently finished The Angel in My Pocket, Sukey Forbes. First book by a gal I went to college with. Well-written. Heart-wrenching. Heart-warming.
  2. I heard that the muscle spasms/cramps induced from ice water on the body are in some manner slightly comparable to the muscle spasms experienced by the ALS-inflicted. That, and the fact that it's raised a couple of million dollars and awareness, are worth the "hype".
  3. 84% of all statisticians truly hate their jobs.
  4. I'd imagine in 10-15 years there will be no shortage of kindred bands. The scene thrives.
  5. Those after -show Shakedown and Triangle stages look cool as hell, too: Taj, CRB, Jack and Jorma, and Dumpstaphunk (saw them do an all-Zeppelin show a couple months ago and it was fantastic). Weird how they're doing Umphry's ,Cheese, Umphrey's, Cheese that first night.... Sooooo... no beers at the fest? Yikes.
  6. Thought that Allstars set was added on the day after Weir cancelled. Umphrey's are solid and SCI are certainly solid. Both have large followings.
  7. I agree completely that it sucks, but the NCLB initiative has led to a culture of panic/paranoia among school teachers and administrators.
  8. It's not so much that schools have "moved away" from the Arts. but that they are usually the first to get cut when working in the confines of a relatively tight budget. Most schools are going to focus on providing extra interventionists and Sp. Ed teachers and data coaches, etc who can all (purportedly) assist in bringing the state-mandated test scores up to "acceptable" levels. Simply put, Music and Art and P.E. teachers can't. Anyway, we started with students yesterday. I looped with my 4th graders from last year to teach them 5th this year. Have kids in 2nd, 5th, 7th, and the oldest hitt
  9. Moondawg'S Tavern is a great compilation of his life stuff. Get it when you can. The HWA's album that came out this year is all cover tunes. They have a new one coming out (not sure if it's even done yet) next that is all original stuff. Caught them again last week (w/ that Isbell guy) and they toss in Todd tunes to their sets, too.... This kinda bums me out....
  10. Their earlier albums were better. I just don't think they hold the jockstrap of this band from earlier in their career.
  11. The way I see it, you're either gonna get it or you're not gonna get it, so why worry about it?
  12. Ha, both! Encore was Sloop John B and Lake of Fire. Moistboyz played after MPs. Catch the double encore video (and a killer Up on the Sun video) from the show here, if you care to (lots of weed smoking going on the stage that night. CO and all...): http://concertconfessions.com/2014/04/moistboyz-and-the-meat-puppets-the-gothic-theater-denver-co-04114/
  13. Huh. I found the beginning to be a little tedious, actually.
  14. I never did finish the Keith biography. I should try harder with it. Yeah, saw the tour dates yesterday, too.Pretty spread out. No CO but caught them a few months ago.
  15. Yeah, fun read. A bunch of the stories in it he tells (abbreviated, mostly) between tunes at shows. I think you'd really like his music, too. NOJ: You ever read the MP's one?
  16. I watched the Peter Bogdanovich-directed documentary Runnin' Down a Dream last night. Very well done and made me appreciate Petty's attitude, song-writing, and music just a little bit more....
  17. MB: I'd purchase the 3.18 Philly '95 show if it was released. Killer second set. Love the "All Too Much" and the "Visions" is spectacular: https://archive.org/details/gd95-03-18.sbd.1362.sbeok.shnf Caught RatDog/Avett Bros last night at Red Rocks. They (both) sounded great. Not sure why Karan isn't in the current line up but Kimock does his best work, imo, in RatDog. Not a big fan of his noodling in his own band, Never quite seems to hit peaks, only plateaus.,,,,,,
  18. Those World shows.... The July 22 show, Brent's second to last show, has Brent singing in the final verse of "Far From Me": "...this song's my last fucking song for you, bitch!"
  19. Thus completing all of Spring '90 as official releases: http://www.dead.net/store/1990s/spring-1990-other-one-box?eml=dead/071014/banner1
  20. He takes the "...you've got a friend named cocaine...." verse.
