  1. Was just listening to the 10-17-78 Winterland show.....about a minute or so into Space you can hear (barely) this lady up on stage talking to Garcia. It goes like this: Lady- I know this sounds strange but I'd like to take banjo lessons Jerry- I don't teach anymore Lady- What? Jerry- I don't teach anymore Lady- Yeah, but I'd really like to take banjo lessons Jerry- I don't teach anymore Lady- Oh. I'm sorry Weir says something, but you can't really hear it. Too damn funny. It's not as good as all the stage banter going on during the 10-30-71 show but pretty funny just the same
  2. hard to believe only a couple of people mentioned Helter Skelter. Thats a good one after 6 hours of driving when yer gettin' sleepy. Wakes you right up. I've got blisters on my fingers indeed.
  3. There ya go! that masturbatory comment still just cracks me up...I've never heard that adjective to describe 'em. I agree with you...towards the end it got to be a drag with the Dead. They were not playing very well and it was a huge drag dealing with chuckleheads who were there just to get as fucked up as possible and make "the scene". As I said in earlier posts you have a band that right now is really the best live show around...I think they are even going to get better ( if thats possible ). We are lucky to be witnessing an amazing group that is firing on all cylinders and just tearing it
  4. Yeah.....I'm gettin ready to go all Jihad on anyone who dares disagree w/ me all kidding aside it's pretty amazing stuff to contemplate. I'd love to get a chance to get some time behind one of those giganto observatory type telescopes and just look. I dig the images coming from the new space telescopes. Really wild to see the cosmos that way i.e. using non-visible light x-rays, gamma rays etc.
  5. Sure....I agree completely. Pesonally ( just my opinion I'm not trying to preach or lay my views on anyone) I think there has to be some higher power....something. I don't know that I believe in a guy with a white robe and a flowing beard, but I don't think all of "this" is a cosmic accident. What all that is I'm not sure. Religion is just fine and dandy with me...its how people twist and turn it to their own devices that pisses me off...you know "our God is better than your God" etc, etc
  6. Yes, I am reading that currently, also have read Brief History of Time.....good stuff. Like I said before that stuff is endlessly amazing to me....the one I'm trying to wrap my mind around is the whole big bang theory. I get that the universe exploded from a singular point and is expanding etc, etc...what I'm wondering is OK what was there before the big bang?...I can't comprehend the concept of everything ( i.e. the universe) begining from "nothing" what kicked that off?..... Jeeeeeeeeez
  7. Yep, I don't know how it is for others but if I'm trying to sleep and start thinking about stuff like that it's like forget it, I'm up for hours....trying to grasp concepts like the size of the universe and such. And I don't even use drugs or drink anymore
  8. ahhh the good old days when you would get 3-4 releases a year......coupla dick's, maybe a vault release......That show (12-19-73) is a damn fine show.....Like you said that HCS is an all time great version, I love the way it seems to just unwind into the jam after the verses and seems to just keep going. I also dig the jams that sandwich The Other One. The show just has that jazzy 73/74 sound to it that I really like.
  9. Right on ( I didn't take your comments to be trashing the Dead, it's all good ) I won't hijack the thread by going on and on about the Dead but if your interested check out the "Where to start with the Grateful Dead" thread in someone else's song....you can find some reccomendations for further listening....if you are interested and haven't already seen that thread.
  10. I'm guessing what they mean by the Dead comment is that the band is now probably the best live act around, and that they merge several styles of music and playing together. I'm obviously biased but I think it's a huge compliment. Say what you want about the Dead, there is not one music act out there that wouldn't wish for such a huge passionate fan base like they have.
  11. On the series The Universe (History Channel) they showed the episode about the Milky Way last night. They mentioned 2 small "gloular clusters" that were in the process of colliding with our galaxy. I can't get enough of that stuff...absolutely amazing. Big time space and cosmos geek here.
  12. Gotta love that statement! For what it's worth Billboard has SBS tied at 8th on their list link scroll down a couple pages to find SBS
  13. somewhere say around...Neptune or Pluto or further.........serious Tiger Jam in that....Jeeez I woulda loved to have been at that gig...of course I was only 6 at the time.....
  14. that can happen while listening to that show....the whole damn thing is pretty trippy. Those guys were dosed to the gills and it's easily (my opinion) one of their 5 finest shows ever
  15. Jeeeez just finished listening to the 8-27-72 Playin' In The Band....that might be the best version ever of that song. 18 minutes of pure lysergic dripping intensity. Anyone think they will ever officially release the Sunshine Daydream movie of that show? I know it circulates in various forms but I'd like to see Norman get his hands on it and clean it up a bit.
  16. If you get into Nashville early you can check them out at the country music hall of fame hatch show tour, they also have an online catalog....hatch online catalog Once in a while you run into people down here that have old gig posters at flea markets, yard sales, etc....I have a buddy that scored a bunch of really rare hatch show prints at an estate sale for something like $50 for the entire lot
  17. gotta love the 71 stuff. Kind of an underrated year in my opinion.
  18. Just a little public service announcement. If anyone is considering using ebay or stubhub or whatever please be careful. I don't know about any of the other venues but the sites I have been checking out for Ryman tix ( got mine thru pre-sale...just checking ) have some, shall I say dubious wording. If anyone is interested in pursuing Ryman tickets find out EXACTLY where the seats are located. There are obscured view seats in there (in the main floor area...behind the supports for the balcony), also I have seen some vendors advertising FRONT ROW!!!!!, again check. The way the sections are alli
  19. They still play DHH on lightning 100 here in nashvegas....Tuesday nights, been on here for a long time. Some kids used to have a show on the Vanderbilt Univ. radio station called "The Kind Veggie Burrito Show", but dunno if it's still on. They used to play some interesting stuff....most Dead, but some other jamband type stuff as well. Thats all you ever hear the Dead on down here...the DHH....every once in a while one of the big rock stations here plays the obligatory Uncle John's or Truckin'.....
  20. I agree with the Clemens comment. I'm a huge Sox fan, grew up in Mass. Loving them and still do, and I never really liked that guy. Just speculation but anyone think that maybe in the past couple of years he hasn't started until later in the season to go through a cycle of use (steroids) then come off....after which they may not be detected? I don't know exactly how those things go but I have heard users use them in cycles
