This was a great show. Very muggy, but not nearly as hot as I'd feared. I've seen this band 6 times now since 2007, and this was probably the second-best of those, with only the "Evening With" show at Strathmore topping it. Great energy, great setlist, great performance. The sound was fantastic, and the band seemed to be in great spirits despite the visible empty sections in the pavilion. I also appreciate that they got in as much music as possible, with Lee Renaldo starting right on time and what seemed like short breaks between him and Wilco and between their main set and the encore.

I got in on a presale. The GA floor ticket was $90 after fees. Not great, but not as bad as the most expensive seats.

I got Row B for Wolf Trap night 2, but I was buying a single ticket, which usually helps me get a primo spot. I don't think they usually have a standing GA down front, so I'm pretty stoked to be so close to the stage.

I bought tickets to their date at Merriweather so that I can take my 9-year-old son. It'll be his first concert, and he loves the Beach Boys. I'm not sure what he'll think about old geezers singing songs about teenage love and cars.

Looks like Wolf Trap already has the B-52s scheduled on July 19, but nothing announced on the 17th or 18th. I'd be surprised to see Wilco do a 2-night stand there--did they fully sell out in 2009?

New Multitudes was released in the US on Rounder Records. Are they releasing through Nonesuch in Canada?

The bonus disc in the deluxe edition is all Farrar/Parker. Sounds like Gob Iron part II. I'm picking it up, but my expectations are modest. I'm really looking forward more to the new Son Volt and tour.

It's certainly an easier front-to-back listen in its new incarnation, but the songs are not a whole lot different from how they appeared on the original release. I didn't mind tossing Jay some money for it, since the record is otherwise out of print and I'd bought my CD copy of Terroir Blues used.

This is terrific. Love the Son Volt stuff and the laid-back "Outta Site (Outta Mind)" (or is it the other way around?).

I've liked Tom Petty ever since he became a recurring character ("Lucky") on King of the Hill. I'd never really been into him other than hearing his stuff on the radio, but I picked up his live anthology a few months back because it had a ton of songs for not much money. I highly recommend it--the songs sound terrific live and most of the hits are on there, along with a bunch of other stuff that didn't make it to radio.

I'd definitely heard before that Farrar had planned to do a Mermaid Avenue type project with Woody's songs before Wilco got the gig, but I'd never heard that he had planned to do it with Billy Bragg. I always thought (assumed) that they were totally different deals.

The live versions of LTYT from 2002-03 are gorgeous. It's a real shame that they never play it live any more. It's so spare and beautiful in those 2003-era shows, it's almost like they wouldn't know how to play it today with a six-piece band.

I was down in the pit, and I noticed that much, if not most, of the crowd in the pavilion was seated. It's weird. With the exception of One Sunday Morning, it was a pretty lively set list from top to bottom. I might be getting too old for the pit, though. It pisses me off to get there relatively early, stand in one spot through Nick Lowe (who was quite enjoyable), and then when Wilco's about to come on, get some jerks push past me to stand up front, and/or right in what used to be my personal space. No, paperless tickets would just ensure that the venue and/or primary ticketer get a cut of the secondary market. See: "TicketExchange." It's not too far removed from the StubHub model, where you can buy print-at-home tickets from primary ticketholders and pay a fee to the secondary market provider.

Funny, I've seen the band 5 times now in the DC area and they've played Box Full of Letters for three of those shows. I didn't miss some of the old staples, but I'm sure glad they kept the old songs they did. A Shot in the Arm kicked the show into a whole 'nother gear. It was pretty wild from there on.

Seconded. I didn't buy the recent Murmur reissue, but I bought Reckoning, and while it's fine, it's a little loud and not much of an improvement, if at all, over the "I.R.S. Years" version I already had. (These guys have done a TON of reissues, when you think about it...) The Murmur MFSL gold disc is outstanding and well worth $30, which is probably what I paid for it when it came out in 1994 or so.
