  1. We can make it better......
  2. Great selections Crowjack and Viatroy!!! I saw her standin' on her front lawn just twirlin' her baton Me and her went for a ride sir and ten innocent people died From the town of Lincoln Nebraska with a sawed off .410 on my lap Through to the badlands of Wyoming I killed everything in my path I can't say that I'm sorry for the things that we done At least for a little while sir me and her we had us some fun The jury brought in a guilty verdict and the judge he sentenced me to death Midnight in a prison storeroom with leather straps across my chest Sheriff when the man pulls that sw
  3. Ann and Nancy Wilson----joking, of course (though I did have my Heart phase). No doubt, Chrissie and Patti and Aretha!
  4. Ok, what bar should we meet in for an exciting VC in Austin blow out?
  5. Really? I'm thinking of assigning it for my US Religious History course. It did win a Pulitzer but maybe it's dated?
  6. I know many folks don't dig the "alt country" label but I'm curious what other bands come to mind.... other than Gram Parsons Neil Young Bruce Springsteen (some of his songs) Wilco Whiskeytown Ryan Adams Also, one of my favorites even before I knew I liked this genre was Elvis Costello's Almost Blue (1981, I think; did this have any influence at all in this evolution?). Mucho thanks.
  7. I had to dig deep to find this thread.... So wondering who's going? A friend of mine got his airline ticket and is insisting that I go. Will there be a VC contingent? Do we know what day Wilco will be playing? Is it worth it? Lots to do in Austin? I'll be just starting as chair of my department in the fall and think this would be an excellent time to escape and show faculty my priorities. Thanks. ps--let's do all we can to stop responding to the "controversy" and move on since that thread has truly become most annoying thread on VC.
  8. When I lost you honey sometimes I think I lost my guts too And I wish God would send me a word send me something I'm afraid to lose Lying in the heat of the night like prisoners all our lives I get shivers down my spine and all I wanna do is hold you tight (Chorus) I swear I'll drive all night just to buy you some shoes And to taste your tender charms And I just wanna sleep tonight again in your arms Tonight there's fallen angels and they're waiting for us down in the street Tonight there's calling strangers, hear them crying in defeat. Let them go, let them go, let them go, do their dance
  9. No one has mentioned Watch Me Fall? My theme song... Also Satan (sort of theme song). I Wish My Baby Was Born No Sense of Lovin and Wherever... Shit, all of them, listen all the way through. Jay's songs aren't so bad either.
  10. I had no nutrition guidance when I was in school. I still remember the smell of that cafeteria in Van Nuys...
  11. I joke....just trying to fuel more conspiracy theories. A-man is right, time to call Lone Gunman. I'm a huge, huge, fan of first 3/4s of his career, especially Manhattan.
  12. Sleeper. I think that's the very moment Woody sold out.
  13. Best of luck in what I imagine is an embarrassingly under-budgeted area of children's education. I hope it gets better for you.
  14. Here is reference from the blog itself. Great dialog in one of the funniest, best films. Woody was a master filmmaker at least till mid-80s.
  15. We fell in love In the key of C We walked along Down by the sea You followed me down The neck to D We fell again Into the sea You've changed Ohhhhhhhhh, you've changed
  16. I've got to admit I'm completely tired of the controversy on this forum so haven't read through all the deep insights and biting sarcasm in this thread. But has anyone mentioned the brilliant title of the blog: Jew Eat Yet? That's hilarious, and it's actually an entertaining site. Thanks for bringing it to our attention!
  17. Happy for you LouB, though your absence will bring intelligent posts down a notch here, no doubt. I always enjoy reading your take on all the VC issues! What "field" will you be in, exactly?
  18. Holy crap I love this band!!! I can't wait to see them again, and yes, I'm bringing the kids. I'm going to go buy a Chevy now....
  19. Sorry to resurrect this thread but I do have a realization to share.... Jeff does sound a bit like Don Henley in Hate it Hear. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
  20. Theologians, they don't know nothing.... Not sure I'd categorize it as "protest" but could be interesting if you want to think more about religious protest rather than political (though usually closely related). Have fun foolin the teacher!!
  21. YES!!!!!! Especially live....
