  1. I'm not a paying subscriber. Yesterday's entry about opening for Warren Zevon at the Blue Note was my favorite of the free content so far.
  2. Atlanta Season 3... FINALLY! Both new episodes are so good.
  3. Wilco (kinda) seen on Twitter. Ted McClelland, a Chicago-based journalist I followed on Twitter, posted the following then deleted it.
  4. Took my 16 year old to Jackass Forever. We both cringed and laughed throughout. The adrenaline rush I get just from watching other people do those sort of things rivals riding a roller coaster.
  5. I watched Coda on Apple. Highly recommended.
  6. Just saw an episode of The Book of Boba Fett that had Thundercat. Nice to see pix of him at the festival.
  7. The guy's been around for just about everything and been so consistent throughout.
  8. Roseanne Cash's induction speech was beautiful. I loved the whole episode.
  9. Jesus came to save American Christians judge Merry Damn Christmas
  10. There was just a deep sense of tension going through the whole film. I had the sense I had during the opening scene of Inglorious Basterds (on a slightly smaller scale) through the whole thing.
  11. My mom grew up in Spencer County, just SW of Louisville. I looked up Mayfield on the map yesterday morning and it wasn't very close. So I was surprised to see CNN in Spencer County yesterday as well. Called a friend of hers and they were barely scathed compared to Mayfield. Absolute tragedy! Seventy degree weather and tornadoes in December. Some pretty easy dots to connect to big climate trends.
  12. Power of the Dog on Netflix. A dark, dark western with Benedict Cumberbatch, Jesse Plemons and Kirsten Dunst. Highly recommended.

  14. I saw them Saturday. So damn good. Closed with an absolutely fantastic version of the Stones' Can't You Hear Me Knocking. I am, IIRC, 0 for 6 for shows with Amanda Shires being part of the 400 Unit.
  15. I hope this is true for me. When I look back to Royal Tenenbaums (by far, my favorite of his works), it's the emotional hooks of this dysfunctional family and a father desperate for making amends, if only for his own survival, that truly spoke to me. One of my favorite lines in any movie is, "Immediately after making this statement, Royal realized that it was true."
  16. Really loving this fictional oral history about a 70s duo.
  17. I believe it was this show (it may have been night 2) that Marc Maron referenced in his Thursday podcast. Pretty touching.
  18. Glad it clicks with you in those moments!
  19. This LP hasn't withstood time as much as New York and Songs for Drella for me. I've listened to it when people close to me have died hoping for some consolation. Nothing. There are a few songs that stand on their own, but as a concept album, it doesn't click with me.
  20. Hobo Johnson. Taking my 17 year old daughter to her first club show. If you've never heard of Hobo Johnson, check out his Tiny Desk Concert. I find him endlessly creative, funny, neurotic, and entertaining. My daughter can drive, but I told her I wanted to come, hang out in the back, and try not to embarrass her.
  21. I assumed it was either a new song or a new, weird arrangement.
