  1. I really enjoyed this movie. I feel like Blanchett was, from time to time, just over the top enough to create some humor. A bit more subtle than, say, J.K. Simmons in Whiplash. I had to do some Googling to fully understand the ending, but also thought it was great.
  2. This was a fun read and may inspire me to read more Dickens. I've read A Christmas Carol and A Tale of Two Cities. I think Oliver Twist and Great Expectations are now on my list.
  3. NYT put out a list of 15 Verlaine/Television essentials. The live version of Little Johnny Jewel (Live at the Old Waldorf) really showed his influence on Nels.
  4. One of 5 Iggy solo LPs I would put in a regular rotation.
  5. Nels Cline showing off his Verlaine influence. https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cn-7JfPvI6Q/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
  6. Have you listened to the 3 tracks that boygenius dropped last week? So good!
  7. A friend has a ticket for me for the Saturday Riviera show. Woot!
  8. Paul T. Goldman on Peacock. So weird. So good!
  9. It had to be a turbulent life. Only (known) child of Elvis, married to Michael Jackson, Nicolas Cage, son lost to suicide. RIP.
  10. I asked Chat GPT to write a fan letter to Bob Mould
  11. I saw Jason posted your pictures of that show.
  12. I 100% understand both your reticence and your decision to pull the trigger. I saw him live twice and was left disappointed both times. I love Whiskeytown and tons of his solo work. Even before the NYT piece, I'd decided he wasn't really the best person, that, the NYT piece, his response, and my disappointment in his live shows have him mostly on the backburner for me now. I do love the essay he wrote for the 25th Anniversary release of Bob Mould's Workbook.
  13. I finished Andor last night. Absolutely phenomenal tension, drama, narrative, political intrigue. It fits nicely in the Star Wars universe, but is so much more complex and adult than any of it. Can't wait for season 2!
  14. I had a friend there. Said he met Jon Langford from the Mekons.
  15. I first heard of low wondering into an in-store performance at Northern Lights Records in Minneapolis on my way to a Bob Mould show at First Avenue. I was intrigued but didn't pay much attention to them for another decade or so. Back in 2016 when my mom died and the world went to hell, I made a mourning playlist. Just make it stop was the 2nd song I chose for it. RIP. Awful news.
  16. I'd sworn him off live even before is #metoo controversy. I saw him twice and both shows were sleepers. He released some of my favorite stuff in the late 20th and early 21st century and I can't swear off Whiskeytown and his early solo LPs. Hard for me to dive into his new stuff though.
  17. Ramy season 3 on Hulu is fantastic. At least the first 2 episodes. The 2nd has some of the most compelling political drama and satire I've seen on television.
  18. Random Name Generator on Thursday Night Football just now
  19. Another potential interesting podcast appearance by Tweedy. https://twitter.com/singforscience/status/1577688850561908742?s=20&t=Gz7cU9WDlQgSRhYZe3VMzQ
  20. Yep. Never lost power. Minimal damage in their part of Tampa. Thanks!
  21. Was supposed to see Old 97's tonight, but was pretty sick yesterday (neg. COVID). If anyone knows anyone in the Des Moines area who'd like to see them, let me know. Ticket's only $20.
  22. https://www.udiscovermusic.com/news/norah-jones-podcast-playing-along/ "Here Norah and Jeff have a wide-ranging conversation and perform five of Norah’s favorite songs of his including “Muzzle of Bees,” which will be released as a digital single this Friday, September 30."
  23. My in-laws are in an evacuation zone, but last I heard are planning on staying put. Very worried.
