  1. Awesome! Of course, classic rock t-shirts all the rage among teenagers these days, but this one is definitely cool. I saw a student wearing a Smiths t-shirt yesterday. Another fairly deep dive. I'll often stop kids in Stones, Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Nirvana, etc. shirts and ask them to name people in the bands or 5 songs. They mostly fail. I always tell them it's worth exploring. The exception is a girl I have whose name is Zeppelin. As you might guess, she was raised on it.

  3. Hey all, I wanted to share my cousin's friend's wife's experience with the COVID vaccine and suggest some alternatives that might be better for everyone. I wasn't sure where to post that today. Would it be okay to share here??
  4. It seems that Michael Stipe is quite happy being mostly out of the public eye.
  5. Thanks for the details bbop. Water Works park is on one of Des Moines' main bike paths, so -- like a hundred or so other attendees -- I rode my bike to the show. This mean I didn't notices the protesters. Thankfully. That illuminates Jeff's comments a bit. So sick of my state. It was different 5-10 years ago.
  6. Listening to Star Wars on Spotify this morning and I noticed this.
  7. I can't offer much except to say it was a pretty perfect night. Band was in great form. They all seemed to be enjoying themselves. Jeff, at one point, asked the audience if masks were tyranny or love (paraphrasing). Referenced Gabe's Oasis (an old Iowa City venue) before playing Box Full of Letters. There are few things in life that make me as happy as Wilco live.
  8. I kind of hope not with a strict curfew for Thursday's show in Des Moines.
  9. Missed it. But here for Ohmme (with Spencer Tweedy on drums) and Son Little tonight.
  10. There is a small (<5%) chance I hit that show. Driving to Chicago this afternoon. I plan on arriving at my friend's place at Wicker Park around 7 PM. I really doubt we'll make it up, but it's not out of the question.
  11. So, funny story, to me at least. I didn't see an opener announced on the ticket, website, or anything. There was an opener. They said their name, but I didn't catch it. Nice enough jangly pop, none of it recognizable. Then they played "Out Of My Head" by Fastball. They then proceeded to play two more Fastball radio hits. It WAS Fastball.
  12. Squeeze. First show since Wilco, November 2019, I think.
  13. Seen it at least 3 times. The first time, I was kind of disappointed in the ending. The second and third time, I cried. Not sure how it hit me differently, but it sure did!
  14. Hunt for the Wilderpeople. Available on Netflix. Taika Waititi is brilliant!
  15. Very cool catch. Sharing that (and IATTBYH) with her. She's a big Olivia fan. She's damn talented. My kids are helping me to appreciate 21st century pop music...
  16. Squeeze is playing Des Moines in a couple of weeks. My wife and I have tickets. Apparently they've sold less than half the venue and there's speculation it could get canceled. That would seriously bum me out.
  17. I remember '74-'75 being played heavily on the adult alternative radio station in Des Moines when it came out. I liked it enough to buy the CD. Listened to it a few times and it didn't really click. I had completely forgotten about them, until a few years ago and re-listened. Still really love that song, but nothing else has soaked in. I will give Fun & Games a spin soon.
  18. I was thinking Monkey Man and Sympathy are in mine too. Monkey Man because I discovered late in my life. My brother put it on a mix tape for me when I was nearly 30. Not sure how such a rocking song didn't make it on the radio more. Sympathy because it's Sympathy, right? Also, the history major in me appreciates it. My third might be Waiting on a Friend. Weird choice? I was a product of the MTV age and liked that video much more than Start Me Up. Also, I became a big jazz fan in my 20s and had the chance to see Sonny Rollins live, so when I learned that he
  19. It's a shame he and ___ couldn't get along better could be one of Lou's epitaphs.
  20. For September in Des Moines, making up a show scheduled last September with Trampled by Turtles.
