  1. What a great band they were in the early 90's. After S. Dream, i tuned out. What a bunch of self indulgent bullshit, I hope Billy Corigan never makes music again. Sorry to be so harsh and I know artists have to experiment but his vision has been lost for a long time, at least on where to take his music. It really was my hope he would return to the guitar driven fuzzy sound of early releases, but oh well, at least I won't have to waste money finding out how bad he sucks.
  2. People who don't enjoy the commercials simply turn the TV off. They are not your songs they belong to Jeff and the boys. It was his decision and his music so if you are close minded enough to hate Wilco over this, you were not a "true" fan anyhow. Things I do not like I simply do not allow to take up any of my time. Wilco is not indie rock they do not have anything to prove to all you wannabe hipsters who think everythig they adore is sacred and exempt from the public. I first didn't know what to think, although I finally decided Jeff would never compromise his music just for a few bucks.
  3. I have to admit I usually hate bands who sell their music to commercials, especially new music. I have to admit I love them. The commercials are done very tastfully and VW has a great product to sell. Hell, I have even thought of trading in my BMW for a new VW!!!!!!!!
  4. Great setlist, where has this been for the past month. I was ready to call Wilco boring and predictable, until this. I guess this is why I love them so and keep buying ticket after ticket.
  5. have read a number of these interviews and fail to see this "commercial development" you seem to refer to. Also, I have listened to Sky Blue Sky roughly 100 times by now and nowhere in there did I hear anything that screamed at me "Car Ad." Also, "Is That The Thanks I Get?" was a song Jeff wrote for another singer to sing, if I remember the story right. None of these songs were written specifically for a TV commercial, but you seem to think they were; that this is an album filled with car jingles. I think you're wrong. Your bitching and moaning that they've "sold out" is completely outda
  6. I cant believe I didn't include Neil Young or especially Dylan, what an idiot! subtract Joel include Dylan quickly......................................... :
  7. In No Order Wilco Uncle Tupelo My Morning Jacket Grateful Dead The Beatles Otis Redding Billy Joel Beastie Boys Willie Nelson Cash Pink Floyd Whiskeytown Blind Melon Black Crowes Son Volt Gram Parsons Neko Case Steve Earle Phish Traffic
  8. I think SBS is great. Enough of the whining from people who don't like it, Wilco is not here to please only you. If you don't like it, don't listen to it and sell it at the local used cd shop. Just don't tell me in two months after you have seen them live how great it is.
  9. I gotta say I must retract some of my opinions of SBS. This is one incredible piece of music. I am hooked. Upon the second and third complete listen I quit waiting for the bells and wistles and took this record for what it is. One fine piece of simple songwriting and complex arrangements that weave themselves into some of the finest music I have heard in a long time. Nels Cline is a beautiful musician, he simply takes the songs in a different direction. I so much more appreciate him as a member of Wilco than I did pre SBS. There is nothing wrong with Tweedy making a direct adult album,
  10. While Sky Blue Sky is growing on me, the way all new Wilco releases seem to do until I love them to death. I do miss Jay in the band. I have long since missed the atmosphere around the band in the late 90's and early 2000's. I am not trying to be a hater here. I do Love the creativity the new unit can display. I do think the lyrics from Jeff are a bit weak, but after reading some interviews with Jeff, I think he planned it that way. SBS is a good Wilco release, but I do see a steep decline in overall quality of the music, starting with AGIB. The live shows are indeed where I miss Jay
  11. I Love the B-Boy's. I love the idea of some instrument only shows, but I gotta say their stuff has been lame as of late. Hello Nasty was ok, I really didn't care for the last one. My freind and I were just talking the other day that the B-Boys need to come out and knock our socks off with the new one.
  12. I just wanna say before I ad my experience that it has been really cool reading all the posts here. I was at some of the shows mentioned. Here is mine, 05-05-99 Bogarts Cincinnati Ohio. Bought three tickets, Myself, future wife and friend. To make make a long story short. Friend calls day of show with backstage access. says if i cant leave by 2p. that i have to find another ride. My future wife and myself drive seperate. Never meet Jeff. Turns out my friend gave Jeff some pills before the show. Later on around 4am or so my friend is leaving party with the band, driving home and is a
  13. Great Post LW, Sad some people make new Wilco fans feel stupid when they post but I know where they are coming from. I am way past the "being angry" because Wilco has changed and the fanbase has expanded. I have come to realize that with any band creative and worth listening to, will ultimately come into some sort of commercial success. I do miss the "bar band" days of the mid to late 90's but I also really enjoy the theatre setting and sound of the band today. Come to grip with it " Sky Blue Sky" will be sold at Starbucks and I am just fine with that. This is still one of if not the most
  14. First Album- Kiss "Dressed To Kill" First Concert- Kiss- Dynasty tour 1977, with my sister and my mom, I was 7 years old.
  15. I personally do not care to meet musicians. I like to enjoy the music for what it is. I don't want some preconcieved notion that so and so is a cool guy, only to be put off when it is a bad night and the musician dont want to be bothered. I have just always enjoyed keeping my distance and enjoying the music rather that getting up close.
  16. Cool side fact about Jay and Ken. I do not own a copy of Earth Rolls On, I have heard some of the music on it and never knew it was them. I will have to buy a copy for myself. Personally, for me there has been something missing in Shaver since the death of his son and guitar player Eddie.
  17. Shaver Fing Rules. He has lived a hard life, no wonder he doesn't mind shooting someone in the face. Someone posted earlier about Wilco playing with him at some point. I don't think they have but if it is true I would love to hear it.
  18. that's cool news, i wonder how many more responses we would see if everyone grabbed the "Acuff_Rose" reference?
  19. The wife and I will represent Columbus, Ohio, too bad they can only play for 1 hr 15 minutes. Check out Old Crow Med. Show before Wilco. Should be a good show.
  20. Tim is great. He plays often in Columbus and vicinity>(he is from Ohio). My wife and I have been in to him for awhile, everyone who enjoys good folksy, well written songs should check him out.
