  1. I think the best way to boost the economy right now is to pre-order this book.
  2. Even if you buy a house that is new construction, get an inspection. Had we done that, we probably wouldn't have had a pipe burst because the builder "forgot" some insulation in the attic space above the garage and our roof wouldn't have leaked because the roofer didn't seal some holes left when they put the shingles on.
  3. One thing I learned watching HGTV (take that for what it's worth) is that if you think a home is overpriced, ask the seller to get an appraisal. Let them know if the appraisal comes in at their asking price, you'll buy the house, if not, both parties can start from scratch. You would then reimburse the seller at closing since you would need to get an appraisal anyways. What happened on the show I was watching was that the house was listed for $414K but the realtor said that that was way higher than any of the comps in that neighborhood by like $30K, I think. The buyers offered $390K and
  4. When we were kids, the shows like those on Nick and Disney were on regular network television. They don't really have "family" sitcoms anymore. We had Punky Bruester, Silver Spoons, Family Ties, Growing Pains, Full House, etc. They've just moved all those kids of shows to the other channels to make room for hour long dramas and shows like Lost, CSI, House, etc.
  5. He lost the weight the old fashioned way, he hired a personal trainer.
  6. How many of you watched the premier of High School Musical 2 while all of your kids were out of the house? Anyways, we watch all of the shows on Nick and Disney and we love Yo Gabba Gabba too. My favorites are iCarly and Drake & Josh.
  7. When did he die? I just searched and the only news I could find was that he will turn 67 tomorrow.
  8. I just finished this and was surprised that it was considered "young adult". I think adults should not let that label fool them as it is more challenging than a lot of adult books I've read. That said, I absolutely adore this book. It's very moving and not for the faint hearted. I cried like a baby more than once.
  9. 2009 has been going pretty good for us so far. Although we've had some friends lose their jobs, which is hard to see, especially when they have families with kids and all that. I'm excited to start school full time in May, excited to get working in the yard and to be able to spend more than a few minutes outside without getting frostbitten.
  10. Thanks for the reminder that I need to send the kids to school tomorrow with a check for their lunches.
  11. I've lived near Ann Arbor my whole life and have never been to Blimpy Burger.
  12. Cryptique, Dondo, any other Michigan people ever been to the All-Star Dairy in Jackson? It's not called that anymore, I think it's called The Parlour or something. Anyways, their portions are HUGE...
  13. Jizz In My Pants might almost be better than Dick In a Box. NSFW!!
  14. Notes From a Small Island by Bill Bryson
  15. I'm glad I'm not the only person who thought the same thing when I was a kid.
  16. So you're saying we have to do something, right?
  17. Or not having Blog Radio on XMU. Especially the guy that goes of on a tangent about absolutely nothing.
  18. I'll be pissed if they raise my subscription rate. I just can't go back to listening to regular radio.
  19. In 2001 we had about 4 tornadoes touch down within a mile of our house. All we got was some pretty spectacular hail and a check for $5K from our insurance company to fix the hail damage.
  20. Have you read any of the Mysterious Benedict Society books? They're awesome!
  21. Neither Jon nor Kate work. He used to work in IT and she was a nurse working on the weekends. She quit to stay home with the kids and he quit after the show took off. Now neither of them work. They get endorsements from companies, they wrote a book, and get donations for trips and things. Like the ski trip they took was totally paid for by the resort. They also do "motivational speaking" and get paid $25K per engagement for that. I really can't stand either of them. I think she treats him like crap and he just bugs me. I like to read some of the posts on http://goselinswithoutpity.bl
