  1. I'm curious to see what the people who think The Decemberists are too serious think of The White Stripes and Ryan Adams. Sometimes a sense of humor goes a long way, plus, Jack White looks good in red pants.
  2. I guess that's where we see it different. I see the seriousness as part of them being goofy. I also think if you see Colin Meloy as having the "I'm smarter than you are and I can prove it with my songs" kind of attitude, maybe you need to realize that there ARE people smarter than you (and me) and they write songs, books, and movies all the time. (This isn't directed at anyone in particular) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Mbhd4LGR-g
  3. QFT. I'm pretty sure Colin Meloy doesn't give a rats ass what people think of his music. He writes what he likes and if it's a little goofy, more power to him. Music doesn't always have to be "important" and "serious". The song wasn't meant to be the "Sam Stone" of indie rock. And they are goofy, you can't deny that. Look at some of their band photos and how they dress up.
  4. The sound of branches breaking from the weight of the ice is spooky. About 6 years ago we had a really bad ice storm and since we had a newborn and no heat we went and stayed with my parents. I remember sitting in the living room with my dad listening to the branches cracking and breaking. I get chills thinking of it. Vibes to everyone without heat and power. I hope everything is restored soon!
  5. Our Nintendo 64 is hooked up and we still play it.
  6. If you have a Wii and a classic controller, you can still play Contra. I think it's $5 to download it and it's just like the NES version. We have it on ours along with Metroid, Zelda, Super Mario World, Punch Out, and Blades of Steel. Oh and the best game for the DS is Animal Crossing.
  7. The other day I saw a kid playing basketball while wearing rollerblades.
  8. In my general area, I know of one other person who does not live in my house that has heard of Wilco.
  9. Achtung Baby was the last U2 album that I really liked. It was also the first CD I ever bought in a cardboard case.
  10. The first guy in the 3rd row was my high school principal
  11. If the auto industry collapses, it will hurt me. My mom would no longer get a pension or benefits, my ex would be out of a job and would be unable to pay child support, two of my kids would not have health benefits, I would no longer be able to be a stay at home mom and would have to send my kids to daycare, my friends and family would be out of jobs and would perhaps have to move out of state to find work, the value of my house will fall even more than it already has, the schools will suffer, etc. I'm all for a bailout, but it has to be done right. I don't think they can just throw the mo
  12. Yeah, I've seen that episode but I guess I didn't realize that was who the voice was. It's funny some of the stuff they work into kids shows that is really more for the parent's enjoyment.
  13. It cracks me up that Fred Savage is involved with Sunny in Philly and also Oswald, which is a kids show on Noggin. It's like opposite ends of the spectrum.
  14. Yeah, well none of these shows has anything on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Well mostly because I've never seen any of the shows you're talking about.
  15. You're stupid... (I'm walking away from the computer now)
  16. This thread reminds me of 6th grade when a girl in my class asked me if I knew what a blow job was. I didn't know, but I told her if she didn't know, she was stupid and I walked away.
  17. Didn't I do that once? You guys told me that I would like Bell's Amber Ale. I did not.
  18. There is no joy in dog ownership. Dogs hate me. I had a yellow lab that would absolutely destroy the house if left unattended and we tried to keep him in a cage and he literally chewed his way out of it. So we kept him in the back yard while we were gone. He had a really awesome dog house, food, water, toys, etc out there and he should have been a happy dog. It was also safe and there was no way he could get out of the yard. It rained one day and being a big, active dog, he had our back yard pretty tore up and muddy. So I was already dreading coming home from work because I would ha
  19. These may have been listed already: Come Pick Me Up - Ryan Adams Hallelujah - Buckley cover Long Ride Home - Patty Griffin I agree with The Luckiest by Ben Folds not being a sad song, but I cry like a baby every time I hear it.
  20. Have you seen another candidate with more presence on the internet, whether it's their official site, Facebook, youtube, Flickr, etc? Have you seen another candidate with as many murals, posters, sitckers, buttons, signs, etc? Have you seen another candidate draw upwards of 200K people at a rally outside the US and probably close to that at rallies in the US? Have you seen another candidate move people to tears? Have you seen another candidate inspire so many people to get off their asses and do something constructive for their country? I'm sure he was only elected because he was a b
  21. If the big 3 go under, all of SE Michigan is going to be in trouble. I'm just thankful that Jay works somewhere that is pretty recession proof.
