  1. Destroyer: good, not great. But worth checking out. 48 Hours: his best "alt.country" record he ever made Suicide Handbook: Pure acoustic. Almost solo acoustic. Very, very good (if you like the singer-songwriter aspect of RA). Other interesting unreleased records are the Elizabethtown Sessions and all the Love Is Hell B-sides, rarities, and alternate sessions. All are :ahem: available here.
  2. Uncle Tupelo - March 24, 1994 - Thanks Owl/Bear! Almost 15 years ago to the day!
  3. Really? I enjoyed this, much to my surprise. I'd guess you'd call it a 'black comedy' of sorts. Worked for me.
  4. Iron & Wine's "Naked As We Came" always kinda gets me.
  5. My goodness. What a sweet guitar. I wish Pete had kept playing LP's. On a semi-related note, I recently heard on XM/Siruis (the "Coffeehouse" channel) Pete doing solo acoustic versions of Bargain and Behind Blue Eyes. Anyone know their origins by any chance? They were really awesome. Are these commercially available recordings? or (available) bootlegs? Thanks in advance.

    One Song

A.M. - Casino Queen Love it or hate it, to me, it has become iconic of this record. Dirty, rocky, countryish and silly. A great extension of UT. Being There - Red Eyed and Blue I chose this song because it was a tune that originally grabbed me and starting me into the band. Not entirely sure why; I do love the walking bass lines and unique chord progression. Summerteeth - Via Chicago For me, this is the quintessential Wilco song. Underneath the experimental arrangement (read: noise), there is a simple folk song. Combine that with unexpectedly dark lyrics and this is Wilco in a nutshe
  7. Ahhhhh...what a great time in your process. It seems everyday there is something new and exciting about learning the guitar. I am self taught, finger only player, myself. Started on my 30th birthday. It was one of the best things I ever did. Obsession does not do it justice. I joined this board primarily for the Wilco tabs/chords but have grwn fond of the ... errr ... quirky nature of this place. Anyway. It is a pleasure to have join this one. 8. I prefer medium gauge D'Addario EXP strings. Good balance between feel, tone and longevity. But strings are very subjective. I'd suggest buying a whole bunch of different brands, gauges, types and narrow in on the ones that sound good to your ears.
  9. If this means that I look like a terrible guitar player, then you have me pegged
  10. Some good suggestions here (I especially like Miles Davis, PF's Echos & Sun Kil Moon), but let me also throw out there these:

  12. Yeah...that is how JT plays it based upon various video evidence of late. But I have to admit that I like the sound of it better with the 5th string fretted - a better bass rumble, IMHO. I finger that part of the riff like this: ---0---- ---3---- index ---0---- ---4---- middle ---5---- ring ---0---- a pseudo D chord then hammer with index finder (without actually being in a chord shape grip - probably bad form) then grab the Em9 chord: ---0---- ---0---- ---0---- ---4---- index ---2---- ring ---0---- the summary is this: my hands look like they are doing a million things (anti-slow
  13. First of all ...Candyfloss? really? I voted this as one my of "least favorite from your favorite" in a previous (notorious) thread. But anyway ... From gumbopages: http://www.gumbopages.com/music/wilco/songs/candyfloss.txt :::::::::: Candyfloss :::::::::: by Wilco Bonus Track from Summerteeth Chords transcribed by Warren Owen ( wozza@altcountry.freeserve.co.uk ) Amendment by Joel Gerlach If you like this then you might like my website, its at www.altcountry.freeserve.co.uk and is called "The Alt-Country Tab Page". Notes - I think that they have slightly mistuned guitars on this one.
  14. lol. Saw the are making LotL into a movie. Ugghh.... One of most cherised TV shows of my youth turned into a Will Farrel flash-in-the-pan, forgettable movie. Is nothing sacred? Are they trying to tear down everything GenXers found good and slap a price tag on it?? That is the conspiracy we should investigate...
  15. Probably because the GN implied that sorta voice. Had to be there. Hurm
  16. Saw it loved it. You couldn't make that stuff up. Those characters seem so cliche it is hard to imagine that they are real.
