  1. Reading the set lists, reviews and impressions of these first 5 shows has my wife and me so excited about the 3 Pageant shows NEXT WEEK!!!! and the JAX and Charleston shows. They just seem to be having even more fun than usual, if that is even possible, and the request idea is the coolest thing ever. Some unheard/rarely heard music is happening. I am champing at the proverbial bit! Thanks everyone for the various show reports.
  2. Shit. I fucked that up twice! Once in the typo and then in not reading my quoted post!! HA ha!
  3. I apologize but I am unfamiliar with your regional grammar, therefore I cannot answer your question.
  4. See? That is is a perfect example of how these plates are a complete perversion of civic-mindedness. Principles are basically dead.
  5. The ball-clap is the most common STI among fraternity members.
  6. Ha ha ha ha!! There's the laugh I was hoping for! Thanks, Pinto.
  7. Here is a post I ran across on another board. I though that it might bring a laugh or a smile to someone's drab day. Or possibly cause a round of mockery and pithy retorts, which would likely bring a laugh or a smile to someone's drab day. "I can see the Old 97's possibly getting "big" to a certain "wannabe hepcat but actually just fratboy and sororitygirl pretending to be hepcat" faction like Wilco currently is, and frankly, that scares me."
  8. Ha ha ha ha ha! Close. She only hates 3-eyed gay black men.
  9. ha ha! Nice one. I allowed my children to decide on their own regarding the Pledge. One chose to say it, one chose to stand quietly.
  10. I agree. That shouldn't be on there either. If someone thinks that the motto's existence justifies the license plates, then that evidences my 'incremental' point.
  11. Jude, just in case you missed it, see my above edit.
  12. Ha ha ha! That's funny. edit I am a principle purist. When the goverment gets in the business of allowing personal messages on government documents, then the documents cease to be government documents. It then opens the door for needless controversy. The best thing is to not allow them. That keeps the principle pure. It is easy to say, "Who gives a shit? It's a damned license plate and it raises some money." That attitude, on the surface, sounds sensible and benign but upon analysis, it is another corruption of a principle. Just because it raises some money isn't enough to justify ignoring the
  13. It isn't much ado about nothing. As in most things that are important, it is the principle that matters. Prior to the special plates, the state was still functioning. You wouldn't be paying to make up a shortfall. Specialty plates are another calculated way for the legislature to avoid funding things. Most of the plates don't support government programs anyway. Most support private charities at best and pet projects at worst. Again, it is the principle. License plates perform a necessary government function. They shouldn't do anything else.
  14. hardwood, ha ha ha! Yeah, I couldn't remember what it says for new threads. An excellent thread but impossible for some people to keep from arguing because of said blasphemies!
  15. Wow! It was worth slogging through 27 pages1 Well, 1 -7 and then backwards from 27. This thread degenerated like it was destined to the moment hardwood hit 'add reply'. But I digress. Minstrelsy is alive and well. It saddens me to see all of this stepandfetchit nonsense all over the place. Not that it is a scientific poll but the majority of older black people that I talk to about it are also saddened. My blasphemy statement? Bamboozled is criminally under-rated (is that hyphenated?). An excellent social commentary.
  16. I saw that tour in Tampa. I don't know if it happened at your show but seeing the combined bands cover Badfinger as the final encore and Wilco owning was worth sitting through Sheryl Crow. I have never walked out of a show. Wait... I just remembered that I have! When a friend and I roadtripped to Asheville to see Wilco in Oct. 2005, The NC legislature had recently allowed the sale of high ABV beer. We are both serious real beer men and were in heaven because all of the pubs had several big beers on from local brewers. We eventually settled down at Barley somethings, a great bar that I have r
  17. Because spreading personal messages is not the purpose of license plates. People can spend all of the money they want on bumperstickers or on airbrushed murals depicting the personal idea of utopia that they wish America was. If the government needs to whore itself out to raise money for charities, both real and imagined, then call me an expatriate. Or at least the name for a person that moves to a this vehicle is legally registered indicator only license plate state. And thank you, The Eradicator.
  18. All of these specialty plates should be banned. It is a license plate meant to show that your car is legally registered with a state government, not a metal bumpersticker to tout your preferences and interests. The plates should have nothing but the state and county name along with the number. The idea that plates can have messages is absurd and only leads to problems like the "Choose Life" - if you are supporting adoption then why doesn't it say "Adopt A Child" - plate and other bullshit like this "I Believe" nonsense. It is a government issued registration indicator and should serve no other
  19. May you and all that loved your brother find peace.
  20. Thanks! All that I have ever used was www.viachicago.org and it always worked until 3 weeks ago. Thank you again. I need to do some serious mega-posting to make up for lost volume! HA!
  21. I still get the Apache page on IE from home and at work. Hardwood floor sent me a direct link to a specific forum and I got in that way. Until now, I haven't posted in weeks!!1 Why do I still get Apache?
  22. The Florida Theatre is a beautiful old 1920's movie palace much like the amazing Tampa Theatre where they played in 2002. I say the Florida Theatre show in 2006 and it was great. I'll be in JAX on the 6th!1 WHOOT!!
  23. As a point of clarification, they played non-festival FL dates in March of 2006. I was at 2 of them, Jax on the 10th and Tally on the 14th. Florida has been starved for a Wilco show as they have not been down in F-L-A since. Arrgh!
  24. I'm sayin'!! I have to get the remaining 5 finished before class in 20 minutes. Spring break is next week and our plane leaves at 7:40 PM today for London and I have NO MOTIVATION to be responsible!
