  1. I'm going Tuesday, Wednesday, and the second set Friday for sure, maybe more depending on what we decide to do Thursday.
  2. The Nels Cline Singers are playing two sets at Rough Trade in Brooklyn on November 10. This is right after Cyro Baptista has a residency in New York, so I'm guessing he'll be playing with them again. I'm super bummed out I won't be able to make it up there for this one.
  3. I have an 8th row center pit ticket for the Ryan Adams/Jenny Lewis/Dawes show at Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden on July 26 that I'm selling if anyone is interested. I think it was either $55 or $58. My boyfriend and all my friends who would normally go along are going to see Phish that weekend, and Camden is kind of a hassle to get to from Harrisburg, so I think I'm going to tag along to Merriweather for Phish instead. I have a hunch he'll tour in the fall, so hopefully I'll be able to catch him before the year is over.
  4. Nels will be on tour with Cibo Matto in September. The full list hasn't come out yet, but venues are starting to announce shows. So far I've seen the Ottobar in Baltimore on 9/11 (which I'll probably go to), the 40 Watt Club in Athens on 9/13, Exit/In in Nashville on 9/16, Pappy and Harriet's in Pioneertown, CA, on 9/28, the Roxy in LA on 9/30.
  5. Nels will be playing with Ben Goldberg's Unfold Ordinary Mind at Boot and Saddle in Philadelphia on August 26: http://www.arsnovaworkshop.com/events/unfold-ordinary-mind-08-26-2014
  6. My boyfriend has a multi-cam recording of most of the recent NC Singers' show in Baltimore up on YouTube. I think there's one more piece he'll be putting up later today. He also has a few songs from the next night in DC. The quality isn't as good on those, but it's still a lot better than most of what's on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOPXmNtsewJkg88SyMco7-w
  7. Truth be told, I also wanted to be more into it than I actually was. I went through a very passionate Dead phase in my early twenties, and Nels is my favorite musician, so I thought I'd love it. I was at my boyfriend's house and didn't even stay for the whole thing. I may opt to watch some of the Primavera Sound webcast tonight instead. I'm glad I got to see it, but it was more of a novelty than something I was really into.
  8. I thought Nels fit in really well. I especially liked the energy between him and John Scofield. I'll admit I would much rather hear him play noisy jazz than Dead-style jams, but I think he definitely impressed some folks last night. I know there was a lot of complaining when Wilco was announced as part of the Lock'n lineup, but hopefully this helps to silence the complainers a bit. It's been cool to see all the different things Nels has been doing during the Wilco break. As much as I'm starting to miss Wilco, I'd be curious to see what else he could pack into a few more months of time off.
  9. I don't even see Nels' amp or gear anywhere. Maybe he's only playing the second set or something.
  10. Nels isn't in the lineup to start the show. I'll be seriously disappointed if he only plays a few songs with them and we paid for two nights of webcasts.
  11. My boyfriend was a Deadhead in a past life, and I got him into Nels. He almost laid an egg when he heard about this. We were thinking of going up for the Friday show, but we've already got a lot of shows planned for the next few months. We'll be watching the webcast both nights, though.
  12. We can all get a free preview of what's to come in the next few weeks thanks to Mountain Jam offering their webcast for free this year: http://www.jambands.com/news/2014/05/28/mountain-jam-to-offer-free-webcast They've charged in the past, so it's a nice surprise that they're not this year. All performances from the East and West stages will be webcast. Jeff plays 2:30-3:45 Saturday, June 7.
  13. Nels will be playing a free show with Cibo Matto in Pier 1 Brooklyn Bridge Park in Brooklyn tomorrow night.
  14. Nels and Julian Lage will play at Nighttown in Cleveland on July 2. It's kind of buried, but it's confirmed on the venue's website: http://www.jwpjazz.com/nighttown/nighttown_special_events.html And if they really want to make me happy, they'll swing east with a few more shows on their way back to New York!
  15. Nels and Julian Lage will play at the Jazz Room at the Harbour Towers Hotel in Victoria, sponsored by the Victoria Jazz Society, on June 24. That afternoon, Nels will also offer a free guitar workshop. http://jazzvictoria.ca/jazz-fest/event/nels-cline-julian-lage
  16. It wasn't every discussed publicly. Devin quit the band a few weeks after the Singers played at the first Solid Sound. I saw them there and three other times that summer, and something was definitely off in terms of their dynamic. Devin still plays with Nels occasionally and will be the bassist for Cibo Matto's tour of South America next week, so there doesn't seem to be any ill will. I saw the Singers three times this weekend, and I think Trevor was a fantastic addition. As much as I loved the original lineup, Trevor clicks with Scott and Nels really well. There was a lot more experimentati
  17. Nels will be the musician in residence at the Stone in New York August 5-10. There are two sets each night. Highlights are performances by BB&C (Nels' trio with Tim Berne and Jim Black) on August 5, two sets with the Nels Cline Singers on August 5, a duo with Elliott Sharp on August 7, and a reunion performance with his old trio with Andrea Parkins and Tom Rainey on August 10. Full schedule is here: http://thestonenyc.com/calendar.php?month=4
  18. Just about the only thing getting me through these last two weeks of the semester and the mountains of work I have to get done to help my students make their final push is that I have three Singers shows to look forward to, starting on the evening of the last day of classes. I'm trying to hold out until I get the CD to listen to it and to read the little stories behind each track that are being posted on Nels's Facebook page, but I'm dying to hear this thing!
  19. Paste published a short but very enthusiastic review of Macroscope yesterday: http://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2014/04/the-nels-cline-singers-macroscope-review.html
  20. We tuned in for Temples last night, and they were really good. They're touring quite a bit this summer, but nothing in Philadelphia or Baltimore yet that I've seen. There hasn't really been anything else that has interested a whole lot. Hopefully Beck's performance is archived, because I can't stay up until the middle of the night tonight to watch live!
  21. I take back that vaguely nice thing I said about Ticketmaster the other day. They cancelled my order for the lawn seats and refunded my credit card, but now they won't let me have my original set of tickets because they're still reviewing the matter. What matter? I now only have three tickets and am not over the ticket limit! I sent an email but have a feeling I'm going to have to make an angry phone call (or more) to get my damn tickets.
  22. I have to guess they'll play some other shows around this time. Hopefully we get that announcement sooner rather than later, since that will probably influence whether or not I do this. In the meantime, I have five months to see if I can find somebody to cover my Friday classes
  23. Nels and Julian Lage are playing at the Saskatchewan Jazz Festival on June 28: http://saskjazz.com/artist/266/nels-cline-and-julian-lage I wonder if they'll head to Vancouver after that and then maybe play some shows on the west coast?
  24. That's actually why I passed on DC, because I knew I couldn't get down there early to stand in line, since I'm teaching a summer class that meets Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, and my boyfriend won't get off work until about when I get out of class at 4:30. We got good seats in the Wilco presale and will still be closer than I've ever been for Jeff solo, but between all those good seats being on StubHub and the fact that I somehow lost a pair of fourth row seats I had in my cart yesterday, I was super grumpy.
  25. The date has to be wrong, unless he can play two cities at the same time! He's in Baltimore that night.
