  1. I'm loving this so far. It's the Nels Cline Trio's first album, Ground. So far, I'm liking it a lot more than their other two albums.
  2. Yeah, it's just Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlain now. Sort of like how Guns 'N' Roses is Axl and whoever he can get along with long enough to play a show.
  3. The Singers are touring the 11th through 19th, so Nels won't be there, but it would be cool if some of the other guys showed up. I imagine they must be getting a bit antsy since they've been off for a few months.
  4. What a lineup. I teach until the late afternoon on Fridays this fall, but I may have to see if I can rearrange my schedule. Nels is playing with his painter friend Norton Wisdom, who, I can only guess from what he does with Banyan, will paint while Nels plays. That should be wild.
  5. Wow, that was a really wonderful speech. Thanks for posting it. I teach college writing, mostly freshmen, and I may have my classes read this. She has a lot to say that I think could be really valuable to students just starting college, too. More and more, I see kids who are so obsessed with achieving what they think others want them to that they lose their imagination, their willingness to try to see things differently than others have and to take chances. Failure can be devastating to some of them, even if it's a B+ on a paper instead of an A. I think there's something to be said for screwin
  6. For anybody heading to next week's shows who hasn't heard the Singers before, you can listen to their show in Montreal last month here. It was an amazing set--I highly recommend it! I'm looking forward to hitting the road again next week
  7. I really wanted to go to this show, but I couldn't make it work. Sonic Youth is on my very short list of bands I love but haven't gotten to see yet. Kim Gordon is is a goddess
  8. Bono didn't arm wrestle him to death. He was too busy saving Africa and working on the new U2 album (in that order).
  9. I stayed at the Crowne Plaza next to the train station last month when I was in town to see the N.C. Singers. I got a good price on it via Hotwire (I think $56 or something ridiculously low like that), and it was fairly nice. Don't stay there if you're a light sleeper, though--trains run beneath the hotel. They didn't wake me, but one went by when I was still awake and my room shook a little.
  10. Folks who know Asheville, can you suggest a reasonably priced and safe hotel? I'm thinking about that Sleep Inn suggested on the Orange Peel site, or the Days Inn near the mall. I don't need anything fancy, but I'm wondering if there are places I should avoid. I wish I would've asked this prior to going to Ann Arbor last month
  11. No, but I bet she already has little wristbands. It's good to hear she's arrived safely!
  12. I'm definitely headed to Nashville, Knoxville, and Asheville. Columbia is also a possibility.
  13. I've been visiting family for a few weeks and have been using a computer that has only IE on it. I miss my Firefox. I'm looking forward to seeing the new release, though I may not download it until I get my new computer in late July or early August. I'm becoming one of the go-to people in my department for technology, and since our campus is switching over to a new online course delivery program this year, I need to make sure it plays well with the new version of Firefox before classes start.
  14. Nice to see these dates mentioned on the main page of Wilcoworld
  15. Maybe that's why the last night in St. Louis was so epic...
  16. I bet Nels will wear his red pants. Those pants have the power to right any wrong.
  17. Two more to add: 07/14 Austin, TX | Stubbs | The Nels Cline Singers 07/15 Little Rock, AR | The Rev Room | The Nels Cline Singers
  18. I don't like Pearl Jam as much as I used to, but I do still think they're a lot better to their fans than most bands of that caliber, and I respect them for that.
  19. Actually, yes. And they can do it in a smaller venue and spend more time talking to fans after the show, too.
