Yea, I remember this thread and yea, it is probably going to happen. Wilco is a band on a roll so why not put out a super deluxe reissue with demos and vids and what not. It only makes sense from a financial point of view and maybe an artistic one also. LouieB

Never heard Alice's Restaurant? Actually Arlo is both a Catholic and a Republican. I think Arlo could have done whatever he wanted to with Woody's lyrics had he chosen to. He has done plenty of his material all his life. But to say he is like Steve Goodman and John Prine is not even close to accurate unless you want to lump all "folk singers" who do clever stuff all in one category, they yea, maybe you are right. This is an age thing I know, but it is hard to believe folks have not heard Arlo's records. They are of varying degrees of quality to be sure, but many are quite good. Loui

Yes that is correct. Now it is a hair dresser or something, I don't know. You can see it from the el. But the bookings at the Quiet Knight were unreal. They rivaled those at Amazingrace, but in a classic night club setting, tiny tables squashed together, with a two drink minimum. Those days are over. LouieB

What I left out were the names of all the jazz, folk, blues, and rock musicians I actually saw at those clubs. And many I can't even recall anymore. We also reminiced about the Quiet Knight, another great club, which used to be around the corner from the Vic. LouieB

That's probably a good thing. It is an excellent hospital, but the memorial part didn't engender enough confidence anymore I guess. Howerver my daughter, Rosie (formerly Tweedy's Gurl) got excellent treatment there back in the day. LouieB

Regarding Lounge Ax - It was the last of the great clubs on the Lincoln Ave strip which some of us were reminiscing about in line. In the 70s and 80s the strip of Lincoln Ave was the place to go. With the demise of LA the area really wasn't a place folks went any more. Lincoln Hall, the site fo the old Three Penny Cinema, has revived the strip a bit, but except for the Victory Gardens Theater in the old Biog

Everyone experiences things differently, but this was a show in a fairly small venue in front of a very respectful and interested crowd. The band could see and hear everyone in the room (sometimes to our embarrassment) and after a long tour and energetic week (the Riv and Opera House shows I saw were intense), they decided to dial it back for the first half. That was pretty cool I thought. The second half there were some real barn burners, although nothing as intense as any of the other nights I suspect. That was embarrassing!! I would have to say the Spiders done last night was radically different than the usual krautrock version usually done. This one was really moving. Since I was on a smart phone earlier I did not try to link up the Inspiration info then. Here it is now. Waiting around at Lincoln Hall maybe my last time doing it. I am getting too old for this shit but others may say I am too old to even be there so go figure. It is fun to hang with the peeps all day as long as it is not so cold. LouieB

I think there were more than five Mermaid Ave songs. But the night also belonged to Nels, maybe because I was standing on his side. On the two other nights the entire band was louder and he was submerged in the overall mix. Last night he seemed to get more play and jeff seemed to be featuring him. He also seemed to be enjoying the attention and even talked at one point near the end. The non-kraut rock Spiders was pretty fucking cool. Just a reminder that the show was a benefit for the Inspiration Corp, a non profit group in chicago that does job training and other services for the homeless.

Why? Beause Nick and his fans are all old? LH would be a great place to see him. SPACE has great sound and nice seats, but otherwise is inferior to LH. I would like to see him with his own band though. LouieB

Actually I had no idea it was Modest Mouse material at all initially. I like it alot and would never own or listen to a Modest Mouse album. LouieB

How much is this behemoth going to cost? I would hope they would keep the cost down since it is a benefit and most of these cuts could well be stuff people did before and donated. The cause is good enough, but they should keep this affordable and sell to more people. LouieB
