Okay now quoting someone from the Heritage Foundation. Really? Actually I am hoping for alot more Santorum rather than Rommey. But that's just me. Thinking that Obama is the only president under which personal liberty has been an issue is simply ridiculous. Does the federal (or state or local) governmemt(s) sometimes run roughshod over personal and private liberties. Yup. Did Obama invent that? Nope. I am not saying anyone should be happy or unhappy with those running for president. That's a personal perogative. I am fine with Obama running again. I plan to vote for him, since

Hard to believe it was four years ago already. The residency was not really album themed. They never did albums front to back, just all the songs over the five nights and lots of multiple versions of the same songs during those nights. LouieB

I think it will as long as Brian stays on his meds. LouieB

So Sparky who is it you are flogging here? You a die in the wool libertarian who wants to close down the government entirely? Go ahead fess up. Everyone believes the deficit is too high and that both parties are responsible. The rest is just BS in thin air. Until we have the national will to deal with it things will continue on as they are. But there are many other issues out there besides the deficit which do impact folks lives and which people do pay attention to. All this thread is - is about who is going to be president next. Clearly it will be between two people, not unlike the S

Yup, it was a Republican president that ran the country out of money by starting a couple wars that weren't paid for. But I am sure President Santorum can fix all this. Santorum is surging now. LouieB

Well it isn't like it is in some back alley or anything. It is on a main street near an intersection. There just isn't a big sign outside that says it is the Wilco loft. LouieB

Let's put it this way. Aside from the info that we have in the what to do in Chicago thread, (which of course is helplful); if you go to any one of the older more established and hip clubs, Wilco has played there. What else are you looking for? How much of a stalker are you? Or feel free to just go stand outside the Riviera for the day and you can experience what the Residency was like for everyone. Cold and bleak. And no one is going to tell you where the loft is anyway. LouieB

Things suck economically these days. (I have two children in about the same position.) Does Obama have complete control over every aspect of the job market and the economics of this country? Absolutely not. There are forces at work here that are much more all encompassing than anything the president, wihether this president or the last or the last before that or the next one, can control. If corporations have decided to send so many jobs off-shore and close up factories and offices here, what can he really do? This is a trend that started decades ago. So then lets lay off government work

So far only the T-Rex looks even vaguely interesting, with the emphasis on vaguely. LouieB

Yea, it is one of the best tribute comps of its day and perhaps any day. It also was an early entry in a genre that has ground down to nothing anymore. Many of the bands are no longer known, but most versions of the songs were quite good. But do look for Famous Blue Raincoat if you don't have it. Fantastic versions and arranging. LouieB

Yea, please don't. They are mostly opinions which matter little in the real world. In November it will be the choice between Obama or Romney or perhaps Santorum or perhaps someone selected at a brokered convention, but most likely Romney. A non-vote for Obama is a vote for Romney. Good luck in 9 months y'all. (Spending alot of time on the road I listen to both the right and left talkers. To listen to all the words you would think they weren't even talking about the same people or government.) LouieB

As mentioned many times here, the older covers CD called "I'm Your Fan" is excellent, with John Cale's kick ass version of Hallelujah on it (which started the entire Hallelujah craze.) Also Jennifer Warnes (she was his back-up singer for many years) Famous Blue Raincoat is also worth tracking down. Cohen was one of the most covered artists of the folk era, back in the day anyway. Like I said..I think we need a President Santorum. He'll make it all right. LouieB

I feel so much less free under Obama than I did under Bush......just terrible. Meanwhile I am so looking forward to President Santorum. I just can't wait. It is going to be so fucking great. LouieB

I know this is ridiculously early, but CHIRP has a record fair twice a year in Chicago. One is at Pitchfork, so if you don't go to Pitchfork you can't go to the record sale, but the better one is April 14 and 15 of 2012 at Plumbers Hall. So if you are thinking of a non-Wilco related trip to Chicago, this is the perfect weekend to come in. There are lots of vendors selling new and used records of all sorts, as well as DJ sets, local bands, and crafts. I work with one of the vendors and we have tons of great stuff to sell this year. This is one week before Record Store Day, so save a littl

So I guess that it's time for the 90's nostalgia, huh?
LouieB replied to PopTodd's topic in Someone Else's Song
I think of the last 20 years as the same era. Same music, same hipster, indie rock attitude, etc. Only difference is that I am now alot older....and alot less interested in trying to keep up. LouieB -
Well considering they took a few years to actually sell off KT, I am not sure they made any money on it. Heck there may still be copies floating around out there. And who is ordering them to press this on vinyl anyway? I thought we "heard" they were, but now it doesn't appear so. The only thing in the package that seems to be coming is the third disk of outtakes, etc. I have all the rest. LouieB

This is too big a reissue to leave up to record store day. Billy and company will want to make serious money on this, not do a quicky record store day thing. LouieB

Don't Worry Baby is a great song, Wouldn't it Be Nice is a great song, etc. etc. The Beach Boys to me will always be a great singles band. I know we have had this argument before and will undoubtedly have it again here. No album by the Beach Boys stands up to the great albums, including Pet Sounds and particularly the finally released Smile. Great songs on Smile too (Heros and Villians, etc) but there are some real clunkers on there too. If you have to divide this out, I suppose I don't understand what's not to like about the Beach Boys in general (great sunny music and harmonies, good

I like Pet Sounds well enough. (Well enough to try and find an original pressing for cheap one time..) And I understand why folks are into it so much. Some of the songs (but only some) are great and sound particularly great in the musical context. The three best songs are Carolina No, Wouldn't It be Nice, and God Only Knows. I wasn't made for these times is pretty good. The rest are so so and Sloop John B is a total bring down. My continuing point is that up against The Beatles Rubber Soul and Revollver and Bob Dylans Highway 61 Revisited and Blonde on Blonde and Subteranian Homesick Bl

Whats not to get. It truly is one of the most over rated albums of all time. You can't fault the sound of the album, which is why it is famous (and why the Beach Boys are famous in general) but the content is not even close. Mostly a collection of songs about trying to grow up from a guy (guys really) who are already grown up and should know better. It has a few great songs though, just not that fantastic over all. Sloop John B? A campfire favorite that was worn out by the time they put it on the album. LouieB

There is simply no way to either defend one's love for Madonna or to express their dislike. Meanwhile Madonna has always been a minimally talented singer. with some of the best branding in music history. There has never been much about her to like for lots of folks, yet she is wildly popular with tons of people.. There are parts of her "act" that many people find ridiculous to bordering on offensive. I think that it is more a question of whether you "buy" her act rather than enjoy her music. Some is okay, most is just so-so, and alot of it is crap wrapped up in alot of vocal masking a

Elder statesman? 44? Really???? Although he says exactly what I say all the time (because it is so obvious) that young folks can listen to any music ever produced because it is al available to them. LouieB
