There is the funniest review of the Watchmen movie in the New Yorker this week. I still want to see this thing though....despite not being in the demographic... LouieB

I guess I will have to listen to the last 1:20 to make sure I didn't miss anything.... A whole side of this on vinyl? Yikes......seems like kind of a waste of oil. LouieB

Yea, I am sure....not worried at all. I just cracked it open and listened for the first time on the way to a wake, so yea, not the best way to give it a listen. The cast of musicians is amazing.... So how long DOES the last track go on? I quit at just over 30 minutes as I pulled into the garage last night.... LouieB

I like Satanic too, but not my favorite. Great stuff on there though. (I got an original version, cut out, believe it or not....) LouieB

If we all live long enough this will happen. We know that every shred of any artist of importance finally does see the light of day eventually. But additional Bootleg Series like the original 1-3 are certainly in order... (I am waiting on the complete Dylan/Ginsburg sessions myself....) LouieB

Antiquated perhaps, but wouldn't you like to hear your favorite recording artists on commercial radio? I know I would. Rather than playing all the dreck it would be nice to hear M. Ward (or any number of other folks) on the radio. LouieB

Up to Me is on Biograph as well... Hey there could be all kinds of alternate takes we don't know about. You know how this goes. There could be tons of material at Sony/Columbia...or not... LouieB

The complete Blood on the Tracks sessions is in order. Not only are the alternative takes (the originals actually) amazing, they have been floating around in both bootleg versions and some non-bootleg versions for some time. Might as well make some money on them and get them all in one place. Up to Me is a great song... LouieB

I have only listened to this thing once (including nearly all the Marais filler track) and I am not yet amazed, although all the pieces are there. Neko can do no wrong even singing the phone book, so what the heck. LouieB

Beggars Banquet.....(and between the Buttons....) LouieB

Oh Lonesome Me was a big hit, which is why it is still covered on a regular basis. The original is quite a bit faster than Neil's version. I was thinking about this the other day. It is sad that a good recording artist like M. Ward probably won't be remembered in years to come since radio plays so little music that is any good. Don Gibson's song is still played because this was a huge hit single for him, even though he is no longer famous. (You can still hear this song on occasion on an oldies station.) M. Ward won't have that same opportunity, sadly, since radio play is not a factor in h

There is.... edit....there is an echo in here... LouieB

Glad to know people are still reading this. I enjoyed alot (I have two copies) and I think it is reasonably accurate, but alot of time has passed since it was written. LouieB

It was flying out the door at Laurie's yesterday. I stopped in to get my copy yesterday and someone bought two copies just as I bought mine and someone was buying it when I walked out the door. When I asked about the vinyl, Samorama clearly had heard that question a few too many times prior to my request....I guess the vinyl is coming out later. Plan to listen to it today on the way to or from Joliet. Can't wait. LouieB

I think the only Dylan bio I have read is the Anthony Scaduto one. But then it was the first and read it when it came out. I would read No Direction Home however. He is the best informed author I would think. LouieB

Exactly...I can't even believe we are talking about this. Why on earth would Jeff sing a song Jay wrote, even if they did get along, since he has written a ton of great songs and he has other songs to cover that interest him more.... Regarding Paul playing John's songs, even those that are clearly john's are credited to the both of them and frankly if I were Paul I would sing John's songs too..... LouieB

Are you dissing Kelly Hogan? She also sings back up on this one too.... LouieB

yea...if only the motherfucker were still on free radio...... LouieB

The Jayhawks (including Louris, Olson, and related)
LouieB replied to Analogman's topic in Someone Else's Song
I thought it was a fine show, except I do think AD would be better with a rhythm section...and maybe an extra keyboard player.... LouieB -

This is beyond sad, it is a major part of the reason that the music biz is dying and that musicans are dying along with it. Sure the internet is probably the best place to actually find newer music (which sort of includes forums like this), but the death of radio which takes singles and promotes them and the artists along with them (yea I know about payola, etc.) means that folks who could become immortal by having a hit single, now limp into obsurity and out of our lives forever. I do listen to radio, mostly talk or college stations, but the closest I come to extended listening to commer

I listened to him as a kid also, but that was because there were few radio shows that were as ubiquitous as his was over such a long period of time. You could find it on any station in any market. It was only later I found out he was such a conservative. I do think this speaks to the power of the radio. Only Rush Limbaugh has this kind of power any more and it has certainly hurt the music industry that new music is no longer played on the radio. I know this is bullshit, new music IS played on the radio, just nothing anyone wants to listen to any longer. I was thinking about this the othe

The amazing thing is that they were thrown away. How crazy is that? And I agree they sound much more alive than some of the MGM recordings. Those are good too though. Regarding Stoneman, this is a sweet set I think. Stoneman recorded alot of stuff and this is a pretty good sample. I have read some criticism of him that he is not as compelling a performer as say Charlie Poole (that would be tough), but if you like old time music like this, it is well worth it. The Harry Smith Anthology remains the single best place to get aquainted with any number of musicians from the "golden age" of rec
