  1. Depressing but sadly realistic. The reason the current vinyl trade is so vibrant is that people are dying/downsizing and there are records on the market that have not seen the light of day in decades. What is sad is that what was valuable to someone may not really be valuable to those close to them or even to anyone at all. I have no doubt that many of records in my collection (not to mention books and other ephemera I have) will look like crap to my kids. If you have ever had a parent or close relative pass, you know what I am talking about. There is plenty of stuff that was dutifully put
  2. What's the name of the Doc Pomus doc? LouieB
  3. Not necessarily the garbage, but making sure someone disposes of it responsibly is a good idea. At my advanced age and with kids I don't have a will and really should. So if I suddenly stop posting someday, feel free to line up at my back door. I have tons of crap that is probably worth something to someone. LouieB
  4. Actually as it turns out they DID answer him so despite him thinking I am a jerk, I do admit when I am wrong. Having met Tony once I am actually shocked they did write back, so kudos to them. The rest of the post I stand by though. (Who knew Jason Isbell would become a star? One great album will do wonders for a career.) LouieB
  5. I have the complete run. I doubt it is worth that much, but I guess my kids can find out when I am gone. LouieB
  6. Yea, that was the good old days for sure. I also have all my copies in a box in the attic. LouieB
  7. This has gotten way off topic, but in two or three sittings to watch the Muscle Shoals doc I have NOT even gotten to Bono yet, so it shows how little it is holding my interest. I hate it when filmmakers get that far off of the subject. I mean there are hundreds of artists who did record there and they should have stuck to that part of the story alone. Like I said, they keep losing me by showing pictures of the woods and swamps of the area; get back to the real music already. LouieB
  8. No, what is the Mr. Baker doc about? Everyone's taste is different I guess. I thought the Nilsson one was pretty fast paced and gave lots of good info on the guy. I have watched Muscle Shoals two or three times and been ready to kill the film maker each time for all the B roll that has nothing to do with the music. I got the point. Alabama is a soulful place with lots of cool nature around. I wanted to hear about the music and not just see (what's his name) continue to say what a great guy he was/is. Will make it through the thing some day, but meanwhile I watched the Nilsson in one sitti
  9. Ah yes....selling us the same material ONE MORE TIME. What else is left? I am guessing (and just guessing) it is the best of the tapes; the songs everyone knows and loves. That would be a good thing. Or maybe it is Garth and Bob playing in someone's basement. Who knows, but it will go fast I suppose. LouieB
  10. When I was in Israel, a very long time ago, they made the best iced coffee imaginable. It was incredible. LouieB
  11. Lebanon is directly next door to Israel. There is no real difference between them. The Israelis borrowed middle eastern cuisine from the Arabs. Maybe that's why they fight all the time. LouieB
  12. Robyn is a guy, but has a funny song about wishing he was a woman. LouieB
  13. I dunno, it seems like the cost of the tickets is part of the issue here, but then dealing with trying to get tickets to a highly sought after show is (and was) always an issue. And bitching about Ticket Bastard is not an new problem either. Meanwhile I checked to see how old Mister Kafka is and if his profile is correct he is nearly as old as me, which makes him old enough to know that tickets for shows are now and always have been problematic. I am sure he remembers waiting in lines (maybe over night?) and being shut out. LouieB
  14. Calvino - cool doc. One of the better music docs in recent years. Despite having an interest in that Muscle Shoals doc, it is boring and half bullshit B roll. The Nilsson doc doesn't waste any time. LouieB
  15. Absolutely. Those intrepid producers, engineers, promoters, etc who brought modern jazz to us are true heros. I know there is always a down side to some of these folks, but Keepnews was there with all the greats. LouieB
  16. Indeed. There are few bands that have lasted 20 years that still tour with the regularity and fervor of Wilco. Some of that longevity tour rarely if at all and others phone it in and still charge a ton of dough. LouieB
  17. Thanks for backing me up, y'all. LouieB
  18. I just discovered yesterday Orrin Keepnews died. LouieB
  19. I am totally sympathetic that concerts are expensive. But if you can't afford them don't go. If you think musicians make too much, don't patronize them. It's simple supply and demand. I don't see the demand for Wilco decreasing any time soon. As with any commodity, if there weren't a market it would be cheaper. And on the flip side artists are expected to work cheap. But those in demand don't have to anymore. That's not me being a jerk, that's life. LouieB
  20. Nothing to be gained? Actually I back down fairly often if you are paying attention. LouieB
  21. Come on Mister Kafka - do you really think that bands should not charge what the market will bear? (I checked your profile and noticed you aren't a kid so I assume you know how the world works.) And why should TM answer you either? This is a business now with lots of expenses and infrastructure to support. If you want to see performers who are scuffling, hit the local clubs and bars and support them. If you want to see a big time rock group, pay to see Wilco. Or don't. No one is holding a gun to your head and making you buy tickets. LouieB
