We should just start a Byrds appreciation thread. Sure it is uneven, but it isn't terrible, not even Chestnut Mare. We need more talk about the Byrds and less about the Beach Boys. LouieB

Someone who understands. The later records are all quite good. Check out the show from Albert Hall that was released a few years ago. I was in the last row of the balcony, but it was still amazing. Untitled is one of my all time favorites. But enough about the Byrds. I guess it is time to go back to arguing about Jim O'Rouke. Actually there is plenty of production experience within Wilco now. They can do their own production. LouieB

Nels just doesn't make enough records. The guy is such a slacker. LouieB

I was being facetious obviously. There are very few Byrds fans anymore.(and I have no idea where that picture was taken,) LouieB

The Mekons - tonight maybe and tomorrow for sure. LouieB

Feeling really old when someone mentioned they have never listened to The Byrds. I kind of figured that was everyone's favorite group. LouieB

This is a good article. LouieB

This was a great exhibit. The CMA currently has an exhibit on the AACM (a bit closer to home) that may be interesting as well. LouieB

Not coming down very fast though. LouieB

Lots of essays. I admit I have listened to the entire set, but not read the essays. LouieB

Flogging my itinerant DJing again. I will be on the air this Saturday at 1 PM Central on WNUR.org or 89.3 in Chicago doing the Classical and Beyond show. This week are Russian composers. Give me a listen if you get a chance. Thanks. LouieB

As those of you in your 30s, 40s and 50s are listening to records I listened to in my teens and 20s (because they were newish), I am now constantly going back to music from before I was born and getting into that. There is 50 to 60 years of music from before I was born to get into and some of it is really great. (Not always 100% in key....) And since the recording industry exploded even during the 50s and 60s (when I was alive) there is still plenty to learn about. We used to listen to Love and the Bee Gees and I am pretty much done with them forever. There are piles of jazz, blues, soul,

Exactly. But now I have lost the point of this conversation I think. LouieB

Yes. So I would agree it is offensive enough, but not to the point of needing to be censored. LouieB

Brian Jones Massacre. Even Joy Division isn't that offensive, but yes the German connection. LouieB

If we are complaining about Spandau Ballet I suppose Joy Division is actually worse. LouieB

Really sad. And they guy was really young. LouieB

Okay now this is different. The R&B flashback got canceled (no it wasn't my shoddy DJing that did it) so I put in a bid to do the Classical and Beyond show (I know you got to be shitting me...!!!) as a sub instead. I did this a month ago and I guess I did okay because I am doing it again this Saturday at 1-4 PM central time, still on WNUR.org or 89.3 FM in Chicago. I am teamed up with my old music friend John and we are going to play some symphonic Ornette Coleman, lots of Stockhausen, new works performed by the Wicker Park Choral Singers (great local group), Steve Reich and Alan Gins

Looks cool. I wonder how many times Neko and Wilco have played the same festival over the years. LouieB

The more the merrier. LouieB

So does the Sticky Fingers have the zipper? I sure hope so. LouieB

Well good luck with all this. I continue to feel that this will be a Bush/Clinton race a year from now. Those who have the least interest in a Supreme Court that isn't totally right wing may want to take that issue into consideration. I don't believe any of the even moderate Republicans will nominate even handed justices. Even the sort of middle of the road Bush or the seemingly moderate Rubio will certainly appoint fairly socially conservative justices. LouieB
-
No offense but that makes no sense. Some of those you have listed are not moderate on either the right or left. Sanders is certainly not moderate and Warren is not running; both are to the left of Hillary who you won't vote for. Meanwhile Rubio and Paul may look sort of moderate, but they aren't really. LouieB

So who is the new Senator from Illinois going to be? LouieB
