Wait until the album is out awhile and then you will find it cheaper on the open market. There is a premium on it when it is first released. LouieB

I will also be at the Eleventh Dream Day show tonight. Always a good time at the HO and EDD. LouieB

Maybe they wanted to roll it out in Chicago. The best possible explanation is that it wasn't ready. LouieB

Have a drink for me too. LouieB

Pavement was way better during their Millennium Park show that was within the year after Pitchfork. There have been memorable performances for headliners but it is a tough slot to be sure. Some were memorably bad (Flaming Lips) or freaked out the crowd (Yoko One). Because expectations are lower for the less known acts they leave a deeper impression. I don't see that many groups because I am selling LPs (incidentally I did not meet any new VCers this year who came to buy LPs) so I see less music than your average Pitchforker, Seeing a group you want to see in a concert or club date is alway

It wasn't that terrible. The crowd was pretty lame, but the band did fine. LouieB

Saw them at Pitchfork. They were very fun. LouieB

You are disappointed that Guantanamo is still open, when Congress is the one that won't let him close it down and also disappointed because he has allowed drilling in Alaska when any Republican or Libertarian would allow drilling just about anywhere any time. The things you should be disappointed in are far more major and within his control than that. At some point everyone has to make a decision in the general election, that's ultimately the only one that counts. LouieB

Well not technically a solo I suppose; It's Glenn's opportunity to beat the shit out of his drums which is kind of a solo (he never really gets one ever.) Then again solos are not done without any other musicians playing, so yea, it is kind of a solo. He is the main instrument playing during that part of the song. LouieB

I was at the show, in person. Since I was in the record tent I went out and stayed for the whole show, moving slowly toward the rail (which I made by the end of the snow, although to one side). The crowd was NOT your typical Wilco audience. Most folks could have given a shit frankly. Even the usual stuff fell on some fairly deaf ears. But what do you expect really? I would say that the folks closer to the front cared, but the rest not so much. It was a gutsy move to play the album at the beginning of the set. It sounded great and the show itself was high energy and a real kick in the ass.

I wonder if they are going to play this at Pitchfork. I guess we will find out. LouieB

Is anyone coming to Pitchfork?? Just curious. LouieB

You got it. Best post of the day. Truer words were never spoken. The problem with all this is that with Wilco's current track record, any new record will be a let down for someone, but no new record will be a let down for us all. LouieB

Let's look at this another way; the way Wilco's management would look at it. Wilco is a mature band with high name recognition and a significant and loyal fan base. While we all liked the TWEEDY album and I am disappointed I did not get to see them yet (for a variety of reasons) it doesn't have the draw that Wilco has. Nor does Jeff solo. Wilco can go nearly anywhere on the planet and sell out (or get close to it) whereas Tweedy (both solo and the band) had trouble doing the same thing even in Chicago. That's why they call it show "business". Name recognition is worth more than any artis

There were still tickets for Pitchfork last I heard, but they could be gone by now. Isn't THAT a Chicago show. (Come see me in the record tent if you come to the show.) LouieB

There is never going to be an Uncle Tupelo reunion, not until these guys are both 60 or something. LouieB

Good point. I don't know that Jeff could do more different things than he is doing since he is also now a producer. I suppose I would still like to see a true solo album, maybe with collaborations with lots of different people. I don't think there is any way for a performer not to become themselves over time. They aren't likely to totally scrap their repertoire and completely start all over. LouieB

A friend and I are on a rotating basis on the Classical and Beyond Show (my thread says R and B Flashback because I can't figure out how to change it..) on WNUR.org We played Satie and a whole bunch of cool stuff on our three shows already. Next up are 20th century American composers. Last week were the Russians. Sure I will be in the record tent selling used LPs with my buddy Carter at Pitchfork. We are just inside the tent by the basketball court. It's gonna be hot and wet. Back when I was young Satie had a huge resurgence due to being included on the second Blood, Sweat, and Tears al

Hey you guys, listen to my Classical and Beyond show sometime. Played Shostakovich this week. Although I didn't see the recent Bessie Smith movie, I did read the bio it was based on and it is extremely interesting. Check it out. LouieB

It was a real break for Emmylou to be on Desire. In her long and storied career she has sung back-up for just about everyone. LouieB

Wow, a lot of harsh words for Nels. Eventually he will leave the band (or not) because he is certainly the senior citizen of the group, but damn he does just fine most of the time. Clearly he is what Jeff wants as second guitar. LouieB

That may be, but it also seems like he was talked into a solo career that didn't go quite as planned. Both could be true, as could be he got kicked out for other reasons. Today is Roger (Jim) McGuinn's 73 birthday too. LouieB

I don't know that Gene Clark was kicked out. I think he just figured he could do better on his own. I have a copy of the re-mastered Sweetheart because of the extra stuff on it, but I have not gone that route. However I did track down most of the original mono LPs for the heck of it. By the time I was buying LPs (and used LPs were not yet a thing), only the stereos were available. As far as the name, fuck it. Every band in the world just about has kept it name after original members left. If they didn't there wouldn't be any bands that kept their names except for U2. It's marketing an

Saw the Mekons on Friday and Saturday nights. Great both times, although nearly the same set list both times. LouieB
