Yea, I know....just something to talk about I suppose.... I guess the idea that contemporary Christian rock and Rev. Gary Davis play(ed) the same kind of music is just too creepy a thought to let it go. LouieB

Man there must be alot of hippie wannabes here if anyone in this millenium thinks that most bands really give a shit where they are sold. I am gonna guess there are few bands that wouldn't consider product placement in a Starbucks, just as there are few bands who wouldn't want to have a song in a commercial. The few who still care are either hippies themselves or have already made so much money they don't really care about it anymore. In the famous words of Abbie Hoffman, it isn't whether you sell out, it is how soon and for how much. Music is a commodity just like coffee.... LouieB

Sufjan is pretty much in the same camp as CWk.... George Harrison was basically a Buddhist, but the Reverend Gary Davis was in totally different class along with all the greats who sang sanctified music such as Blind Willie Johnson up through Sister Rosetta Tharpe and any number of gospel singers both early and contemporary. I have no complaints with any of these acts, but they aren't all the same either in what they are performing (style of music) or how their religion impacts their music. cryptiques point about contemporary Christian music being inane is certainly true (the same as so much

I have a friend who refers to it as Star-fucks..... LouieB

I haven't either, but I have bought a few used Starbucks CDs, such as the Dylan Gaslight and Joe Henry Soul stuff. Sadlly I don't drink coffee from anywhere anymore...it doesn't agree with me. (not that anyone asked... LouieB

Its strange, but Ace Ventura is stupid, but funny once, Dumb and Dumber I couldn't watch, but I really liked The Mask. Go figure. LouieB

It can't hurt now can it? LouieB

I had dinner in Springfield the other night and two waitresses commented on the black shirt of the same design I had on. One asked when I was going to have her meet the band.... LouieB

Today would have been Miles Davis' birthday. I don't know what this has to do with Bob Dylan's birthday, which is on another day entirely, but I saw it in the paper and figured I would mention that too. (Native son of Illinois, born in Alton in 1926.) LouieB

In my travels in rural IL I sometimes scan the stations and will be surprised how often I get caught up in some catchy tune that later turns out to be contemporary Christian radio fare. Some fairly overtly Christian type music of this sort is amazingly well done (not to dispute your opinion of the overall genre.) LouieB

I went and got take-out Chinese food last night and the guy saw my car with the bumper stickers and asked what I was listening to lately and all I could think of was Wilco...... LouieB

Sorry..unlike Aricandover, I actually kind of like Jim Carrey, but I lasted 20 minutes into Dumb and Dumber and turned it off. It is a total piece of crap (and I really DO like Jeff Daniels.) LouieB

I personally liked the Truman Show. I caught Bruce Almighty on TV. It was just barely worth the time. I can't imagine any reason for a follow-up. LouieB

Three Idols are in the top 20. 2 mil is a lot of albums...alot!!! LouieB

I looked at the Billboard chart today to see Wilco at #4. What is totally amazing, but which I guess I knew, is the number of Idol finalists who have albums in the top 100. (3 in the top 20 actually). LouieB

When you realize that Idol has a huge audience, that the Idol winners sell far more records than your average recording artist, and when it is most clear that many artists who appear on the show are well past their creative peaks, why not go on the show. I predicted Jordin would win this thing, much to the chagrin of my son who believed Melinda would win. We didn't even watch this last week because he was so upset when she got voted off. LouieB

Great movie. I loved the fact that it reflects the horror of every day life as opposed to the horror of fantasy. LouieB

Get a paper cup, stick a pin in it through the bottom with the sharp part sticking out the bottom. Get a pencil, put the album on a pencil and start it spinning with your hand, then gently lower the pin into a groove and let it follow the groove as it turns and you can hear the album. Fetish is exactly the correct word. The definition on Wikopedia is "a man-made object that has power over others" or an object that has supernatural powers. LouieB

Wow..not to be left out knowing more about this sensational new music from 35 years ago, I found copies of Mirror and the album with the broken window on the cover at Recycled Records in Springfield yesterday. I will check them out and chime in with a bit more info. (For some reason I always think of Emitt Rhodes and Shawn Phillips together.) Had a good day at Recycled, found three vinyl Pere Ubu I didn't have and a $4 copy of All the Young Dudes. LouieB

After the last two "new" Beatles songs I can't imagine anyone getting excited about this one either. We have hundreds of real Beatles songs to enjoy for all eternity. LouieB

I am not the least bit surprised, I have bought 4 copies so far. LouieB
