Cubs Care Park, Goose Island, North Branch

Yea..good stuff and they make good rootbeer and cream soda for us non-alchololic types. While the neighborhood designation is up for grabs, it is commonly known as the Clybourn Corridor. It has gone from being an industrial area (Finkl's foundry being about the last large industry that will exit the neighborhood soon), that has been turned into a powerhouse retail and housing area. In the time I have been in Chicago it has gone from being a rather drab and somewhat depressed area to having some of the highest property values in the city. LouieB -
I am still trying to figure out how Randy Newman is underrated... He sold gobs of records, was widely covered by his peers and now has an incredible career scoring movies. None of that points to underrated in my book. LouieB

What landmark are you referring to?? Her musicianship or the spiritual/message? LouieB

Hell, we should all be pleased he still cares.... LouieB

Alice sort of showed up in the Micheal Brecker thread too. I guess with Sneaky Pete this makes three musician deaths in a row. LouieB

I had not read that Alice Coltrane passed away. This is also sad, but she wasn't a giant. (I am not even sure Micheal Brecker was a giant, he was a very talented and prolific musican however.) She was the reasonably talented, second wife of John Coltrane, who was a giant. Had she not been associated with him, we may never have even heard of her. None the less this is sad news. LouieB

Alejandro is a great songwriter, but I am not sure he is underrated or underappreciated. He is certainly a musicians musician. Just listened to Rhapsody on the way home. LouieB

This was really really sad news. He was just a touch less than a year older than I am. He has played with everyone who is anyone too. Thanks for posting this. LouieB

It does kill the momentum, but part of the Last Waltz was to showcase the other artists that the members of the Band had been working with and Robbie produced Neil's "Beautiful Noise" album (which I have to admit I NEVER had any interest in hearing...), so that was the reason he got stuck on the bill. Meanwhile the other colleagues of the band such as Muddy Waters and Van Morrison ripped it up. LouieB

I don't know how much those shuffles are, but I have a nano and it holds enough to keep me happy and you can select either shuffle or specific playlists. LouieB

Quit school now and you won't have to worry about that..... LouieB

I would say that Randy Newman is hardly underrated or underlistened. I believe he has a few songwriting Oscars nominations and at least one win, numerous Grammy nominations and is a widely covered songwriter. Hislist of accomplishments far outweighs most of the people discussed here. He had a great run of albums on WB, but as with most older songwriters, his output is slower than it was. Actually I find Neil Diamond's performance in the Last Waltz totally irritating, but that is just me. LouieB

The strangest juxtaposition of this entire thread is Billie Holiday (an artist I feel you can never hear to much of) with Black Sabbath (a group I can never hear too little of.) I have never really liked BS, although I am certainly not going to suggest others feel the same way. However when push comes to shove, Billie Holiday should be in the RRHOF too, despite being a jazz singer, because countless female and male singers owe her a huge debt for taking some of the most inane popular music (not all of was, but some of it was) and turning it into some of the highest (no pun intended) art of t

Speaking on behalf of Twisted Acres and myself (the old music fans...) you won't be disappointed. When you have digested this material, a dose of the Verve years or the material from the Jazz at the Philharmonic concerts goes along way to giving an understanding of the depth of Billie's singing in her later and declining years; some of the material is heartbreakingly (if that is a word) beautiful. When I saw this trailer, nothing in it gave me any reason to see the actual movie. LouieB -

I saw this trailer in the theater and had no idea it was about 9/11. LouieB -

Until I read the obit in the Trib this morning I had no clear idea about his involvement in the special effects business. Pretty amazing that the guy had two talents. LouieB
