A couple years ago I was talking to a music critic from Ann Arbor who said he had it and it was better than the released version. I didn't know him well enough to say...burn me a copy, so I have been thinking about it ever since. Car Wheels is great the way it is now, but I would just like to hear what it sounded like before she scraped that version. LouieB

Quicksand/Candlesnakes I think is really good. Roomsound is good too. Doug McCombs, of Tortoise was also there last night, but didn't play with them, although he did on Roomsound. If you like Califone, Tortoise does the same sort of thing, without vocals and instead of improvising on roots music, they improvise more on jazz. LouieB

I remember when this movie originally came out (I was a teen) and I didn't catch it. It was an art house type of thing you know. Then it went out of cirrculation for maybe a decade. I finally saw the re-release in the 70s at the theater. It was a real thrill to get a betamax copy of the movie. LouieB

Yea, this is like the show of the weekend here in Chicago. Glorious NOise has a three part documentary on they, thanks to Derek and John. I havent watched it yet. LouieB

I remember the bad old days before videotape when you couldn't even see this movie. It was out of circulation for years. Now they reissue it every few years. LouieB

You are correct...I don't have that either. I am not sure what is on it, but I have wanted the original recordings for some time. Anyone got those that could send them to me? LouieB

I have nearly all of them (I think I am missing the first Smithsonian), but she sounded so screetchy on the last live album, I never did get it. Nice article on her in the last ND. LouieB

I just got them and was surprised how much I liked them. I usually don't like mopy stuff like that, but it is quite well done. ( I got both with shipping for under $10...not alot of demand at this point.) The story in the The Reader is really interesting. LouieB

As usual, Califone tore it up at the Hideout last night. There is just always so much special chemistry that the Hideout creates. This was the last US show before Califone goes to Europe. At the end I had a conversation with Tim about the unbelievable depth of talent here in Chicago and that I rarely see any non-Chicago folks anymore when I go out. Even Glenn Kotche showed up to see the show. Anyone else there?? LouieB

I knew nothing about the Chamber Strings until about a week or so ago. There are articles about them in the Trib and Reader this week, since there is a show at the Double Door this Saturday, featuring new songs. The story is amazing; there is also stuff up on Glo No as well. Maybe someone wants to post some of the links. I am helping tape this show, so come on by. LouieB

Its okay, I am sort of fucking around..... They aren't that similar, except having seen both live, (and not having heard devotchka's record) they both have a kind of self concious /self referential feel (whatever the hell that means). Both are digging the fact that they are deep into non-rock kinds of music and well orchestrated tunes. Both have accordians (I think) and stand up basses (I think), though Devotchka has only half the people (I think...) LouieB

Actually it sounds like a plan..... The last one I saw was 24 Hour party People, which I kept going....what the fuck??? But by the end it sort of made sense, I guess...!!??!?! LouieB

Art was one of the first newspaper columnist I ever read back in my youth. Funny and insightful. He really had a great career and kept living in the face of serious illness. A real inspiration all the way around. LouieB

The albums I don't have are the ones that cost alot of money. As a buyer of used records, I have spent many hours combing resale shops and used record shops. When I finally found the two Lord Buckley albums I had always wanted at a used record store and they were $20 each, I nearly nearly walked away. Much of the rest of this stuff was found in less than perfect shape or cut outs. Also, there is no way to have everything, which fuels my continued search for things I didn't know I needed. My kids are heavily into Eddie Izzard (someone I had not heard of before Rosie brought his DVDs

As the shit hits the fan on the state level with this, it may.... You are correct it was not illegal, but Rezko (if I read the stories correctly) still owns the land next door and it helped keep down the price of Obama's home by buying the strip of land at a relatively high price. So yea, there is nothing illegal here, but the guy is under inditement with regards to other stuff that is going on. Rezko had his hands in everyone's pockets, Democrat and Republican. Undoubtedly he knows where all the skeletons are hid. Obama has said what he did with Rezko was kind of stupid, so even he knows
